I'm a 40 year old single mother of two, with a handful of mostly useless degrees. I started reading SS/HG fan fic a couple of years ago and it saved my sanity. Then I got the wild idea that maybe *I* could write some!
Reviews for The Thing With Wings
Wonderful story. Snape just can't help being pulled along by her. He deserves better than what he got in the books so I'm all for this little bit of fun he's having with only slight reluctance.
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
He's wary. Given his history and previous experiences, I think that's a reasonable approach to life. She hasn't been as wounded, so she isn't as defensive. She helps to draw him out, against his will at times.
Hah! I love it. The best thing you can do with a snarky person is to ignore the snark and keep moving in whatever direction you intended to move.
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
When dealing with a passive-agressive person, I usually just take her at face value - tends to really stick in her craw. On the other hand, when I accuse my husband of being passive-agressive, he just gives a Snape-y grin and counters that he's actually being agressive, nothing passive about it ;)
They miss each other, since he is planning for visitors, but really, they are both so wary of reaching out. I hope she finds him soon.
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
Both are cautious people by nature, and they've had experiences that have made them even more hesitant.
Thanks for the update! For a second there I thought you'd gone straight to the Epilogue - nicely handled! Hmm, he's maintaining his house and plannig on having "visitors" all the while she's trying to stalk him down... Looking forward to the next chapter!

ode to joy effects me that way too. terrific update. thanks and mucho smoochies
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
It's definitely an out-of-body experience!
So are they ever going to need to admit how they feel? Wonderful chapter.
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
Yes, but they might misunderstand each other ;)
Stubborn idiots,LOL really a great addition to the story, look forward to more soon.

It's funny because they're both so smart, but rather stunted when it comes to interpersonal stuff. Let's hope there's a steep learning curve!
Beethoven's Ninth is so very moving. I can just see her reaction to the music and his reaction to her.But it always comes down to lack of communication. I never understood why people don't just say what's on their minds and be done with it. But that's not the way most people do things.I hope they learn to trust each other and TALK sooner rather than later.
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
I think part of the problem is that a person thinks that he or she IS communicating, but the other person isn't psychic. We can't always see what the other person's intentions are. Hold tight - more miscommunication lies in store for our pair!
They are both so guarded. I wonder that they will ever manage to find the romance they are both seeking.
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
They will both have to get to the point where they are willing to reach out. That can be rather scary, don't you think?
I've enjoyed reading this story! It's different and Hermione and Severus seem more in character than other stories. Can't wait for more!
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
I'm glad you're enjoying the characterization of Hermione and Severus. This is my first piece of fan fiction, so I've put a lot of work into it :)The next chapter is in the queue!
oh ho! he's starting to see the light! lovely update thanks and mucho smmochies. by the by i just love that expression "up the duff"
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
I knew what the phrase meant, but not WHY - so I had to look it up: http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/397300.htmlGlad you're enjoying it so far :)
He should have figured that his heart was in trouble when he found such glee in the demise of her relationship.
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
Severus is not very clued in on his emotions. He thinks of himself as a very rational person, but he's not very insightful when it comes to feelings.

It's very interesting how you describe Snape's experiencing of the muggle classes. Great chapter!
Author's Response: Thanks! I tried to get inside his head, to see how his experience could leave him just a little bit more isolated than before...
and so you should be! that was positvely genius!! and much more creative than jkr's. i am really enjoying this story. thanks and mucho smoochies
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
Thank you! It seems like the Order was vastly outgunned by the Death Eaters, so a face to face confrontation - as dramatic as it is to envision - would be suicidal. If they had a man on the inside, why not use stealth?

Promising and interesting start! I'm eager to read on and see what's happening and what Snape is exactly doing there...
Author's Response: All will be answered in good time ;)
I'd very much like to see more of this!

Thank you!

i loved the part that described snape's "exaggerated politeness." my british friends, when they're politce... i always suspect they're about to go for my neck...
Author's Response: It's definitely a warning sign ;) It's a bit passive-aggressive too - they're showing how people SHOULD behave.
Off to a great start. I've bookmarked this one, so hoping you'll update regularly!
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
Glad you're enjoying it! The story is complete (ten chapters) - I'm just waiting on betawork and on admin approval for uploads.
A very touching, sweet ending. As you mentioned in your previous answer, the planets finally alligned for them. Thanks goodnes.
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
I tried to balance our desire to see what they get up to in their own time, versus their right to privacy. I compromised with giving us just a peek :)
awww. it's so sweet. it ended beautifully. Even though the this is the first fan fiction that I've read and made me a snanger fan and now I've shipped to ssrh (severus/rolanda)... I still long for this one and I loved how it went. It's as sweet as I first tasted it. :)
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
Wow - thanks! You know, I'm always learning new things about fanfic. I just found out about Snuna the other day, and I've never even heard of Severus/Rolanda! Fun fun!
Response from rubyanjel (Reviewer)
It's such a nice ship! I mean, for me, personally, I liked the ssrh (severus snape/rolanda hooch) ship because they're both adults compared to the other ships, and the actors who played them are just in a three-year age gap (I mean that in the nicest way possible not to offend SSHG shippers)... And there are a lot of fan fictions about the two in ffnet that are really hilarious! There's one that i could suggest to read... A one-shot and it's a bit sad. It's called "Never Told". http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4771551/1/Never_Told I'm still interested in reading sshg fanfics even though I now consider myself a die hard SSRH shipper... And your story, as I've commented in one of the chapters in your story before, was my turning point of becoming a SSHG shipper. You know, when we had to stay in the hotel for a weekend (as a part of our course's project), I had to read the first seven chapters (the only ones available at that time) over and over again before I fell to sleep. :) It's so beautiful...:)
Oh, you had me going there for a minute, until I figured that you wouldn't have made such a huge leap all at once and that she was just dreaming!
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
That's the thing about those rare dreams that feel so real; it's hard to know which reality is more worth the effort.

I was right about the 'complicated'! That was a close call for them!
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
What I wouldn't give to have the future laid out in front of me again. I mean, it always is - every moment is new, but there's a sense of innocence of the possible consequences that Hermione has that let's her step off into the void.

So now it gets complicated for them. Will they find their way through this?
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
Life is always complicated and finding your way through is no guarantee of a happy ending.
