I'm a 40 year old single mother of two, with a handful of mostly useless degrees. I started reading SS/HG fan fic a couple of years ago and it saved my sanity. Then I got the wild idea that maybe *I* could write some!

'Bint'. How appropriate that Hermione uses modern slang, seeing that she is, indeed, a modern girl! It irritates me when writers get JK Rowling mixed up with Jane Austen. Since they, you know, lived in different centuries. Thanks for entertaining me without irritating me!

Glad you haven't been irritated yet ;)

Books again! This time used as paperweights. I like it! And again, that last line. "All that separated them were a few layers of clothing and the eyes of the general public." Nice.

It's a nice beach, and I like doing things out of season.

Very nice; a literary reference by Hermione, in a bookstore. Details like that make your writing really hang together, and really interesting to read, as well.

Middlemarch is my favorite book, so I'm kind of sneaking it into Hermione's favorites, too.

I like the way your story starts with a scene including Hermione's timetable, reflecting all the HP books that include timetable mentions near the beginning.

It's definitely something that's very important to her.

I really like your last line, "They parted without making further plans." Simple and succinct, it sets up a nice tone for whatever comes next.

Thanks!
This was a terrific read from start to finish. Naughty Hermione there at the end, but a truly perfect way to end the story. :)

Very nice ending
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
Thank you for reading it to the very end :)
Well, it's about time. So glad she talked some sense into him with her letter.
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
She was very determined, and he was open to the idea - so the planets finally aligned for them.
And she doesn't need any compulsion to stay. :)
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
Nope - all of her free will :)
I liked the fact that Harry's birthday party was also a costume party. You integrated Greek mythology very well. I am duly impressed. Fantastic job and keep up the good work!

Thank you! I was thinking of Hephaestus for Charlie Weasley, all sweaty and dirty from working with dragons.Ron, poor thing, would have to be Ares. A tendency towards running off at the mouth and haring off half-cocked, so to speak. The hardest was Neville - and I couldn't really figure anything that matched well. I ruled out Triptolemus because I didn't want him tangled up with the Persephone storyline. Dionysus also has a plant/renewall theme - but he doesn't match the sense of license and abandon that is Dionysus's overall demeanor.
I love that he changed her costume to match his.
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
I'm glad that you caught that! The way Persephone is described in the mythology is rather subtle, so I didn't want to go heavy handed on the symbolism in my story.
Too much courting and not enough story, but the high quality of writing makes it more than tolerable. Enough is conveyed about the insecurities of two people who don't quite fit in. But it is hard to believe that they can't find useful company other than themselves - other magical intellectuals (not all of them mind, intellectuals and arses overlap), bibliophiles (not the same as intellectuals, thank Merlin), former/present magical or muggle soldiers, etc.

I like to think that what draws them together is not just the things they have in common - but also a sense of humor and the emotional entanglement that comes of having spent time together and become friends. There's also some measure of physical attraction between them - I hope I've alluded to it.True, there isn't much story behind this - but to two people who are courting, the drama between them is the whole of their universe.
loved their reparte! well done. especially her trying to explain friends with benefits! they are of a different generation, after all, thanks and mucho smoochies
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
I like that she thinks she's been as clear as day, and he thinks she's clear as mud. He's going into this thinking that she might be up for formal wooing - but she jumps the gun. Ahem. So to speak.
I thought that's all we were to most men, LOL!
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
I think Snape is feeling rather prickly. He wants to be loved for his mind ;)
I have just read this story and I have book marked it for updates. This is really good and I like how you have their friendship starting from nothing and then building. You have really kept the couple in cannon character. Thank you and please update soon.
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
Thank you! At every step of the way, I've tried to think of how people actually act, why they do the things they do. I'm hoping I'll have a new chapter up by the end of the week :)
Cute story, and I'm guessing at the symphony she wasn't wearing knickers under her dress at all? Lol.
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
It's between them :)
By the way, I forgot to tell you I liked how you wrapped up the ending to the war with controlling Nagini, finding the other horcruxes with veritaserum, and not killing Snape in the process lol. I assume that he was never bitten in your story?
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
Thank you! I'm pleased with it, myself :) Snape remains unbitten!
i'm really looking forward for the next chapters!!! haha. i really fell in love with snanger because of this... this is the first fanfic i've read and after that... i started looking for more... so while waiting for chapter 8, i kept myself busy by reading other fanfics.. but this one was only the fanfic i'm waiting for... aww... i wish that i could read the next chapter... it's making me feel the right mood whenever i read it again and again... haha. it's the best romance reading i've encountered... oh, i wish that alan rickman truly is snape and snape is alan rickman (in real life).

Wow! I'm so honored that my story was the entryway for you to enjoy SS/HG fiction!I'm a big fan of Ladyofthemasque, Subversa, Shiv, Camillo, Lariope, WendyNat, Redskyatnight and Grangerous (to name a few of the very VERY talented people writing fanfic in this genre).I should have Chapter Nine up soon - I'm hoping by the begining of next week. :)
i think you have his personality down pat. being friends, really friends with someone would be hard for him. great update. thanks and smoochies
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
Thanks! I've met some people like this, and it's devastating to realize how much potential is lost by them not being able to accept friendly overtures.
Love it! But, about half way through your italics used for "thought" continued on, so it was kind of confusing at first...
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
I think I fixed the problem - thanks for alerting me to it!
But will he follow her? :)
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
The rest of the story takes place in England. That's all I'm saying :)There's a PDF of reference images in the Files section of the WIKTT yahoo group. It has a few hints for the rest of the story, along with nice reminders of the previous chapters.
It's a fantastic piece of music. Her response was so intense, it's no wonder he imagined other circumstances where she would be so rapt. :)
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
I was drawing on my own experiences here - I LOVE this piece of music, but the end always seems to come in a rush and it doesn't pay off the way that I want it to. It is strangely unsatisfying - and yet, there isn't a note I would change.
"He raised one eyebrow in schadenfreudic glee." That's so Snape! :)
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
Isn't it, though? He doesn't have quite enough pleasure in his own life, so he takes it where he can. Schadenfreude is one of my favorite concepts: the pleasure we experience at the misery/misfortune of others. It's so human! We're all so flawed and petty, but our ability to have hope - to reach out to others and make meaningful connection - is also very human.
Making Nagini eat Voldie = sheer brilliance! :)
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
Thank you! Author curtseys gracefully.
She is worming her way under his defences. :)
Response from bluewillow (Author of The Thing With Wings)
She is nothing, if not persistent.
