Part 10
Chapter 10 of 10
Southern_Witch_69To get away for a while, Harry and his children go on holiday to a place where they can find peace and have fun. Little did they know that they would meet up with someone from Harry's past, someone supposedly dead: Severus Snape.
Part Ten – Albus Severus
It’s been about ten years now since our family went on holiday and stumbled across Severus Snape. During that summer, he and my father overcame their past and became friends. My brother and sister didn’t notice what I had at first, but all too soon, the three of us realized that what we’d hoped for had come to pass. See, all we wanted was for our father to be happy again, to find someone who would care for him and to care for in return. When Mum died, life just sort of slowed down on us—for Dad especially, even though he worried mostly about us.
Who would have thought that it only took someone like Severus Snape to put the sparkle back into ‘The Great’ Harry Potter’s eyes? I wasn’t positive about Severus’ feelings for my dad until the last few weeks of our stay there. No matter that he tried to hide them, I could see the way he looked at my father. He had the same look that Scorpius gives me. After James spoke with him and let him know that we all approved, I thought that maybe he would come back to England with us.
We were surprised that he didn’t turn up at the airport to at least see us off. I’m not sure what happened on the last night there between Dad and Severus, but my father seemed to know that our newfound friend wouldn’t be joining us.
Once we returned to London, things changed for us all. Dad, though a little distant in the beginning, became more interested in fixing up our house—something Mum had been after him to do for years—he treated Gran Molly much nicer than he had been before our holiday, and he even had a new skip to his step. See, I think Severus gave him hope that life could go on, even though things don’t turn out the way we would always like. He took one of our pictures from New Orleans of the four of us and placed it on the wall with our other family portraits. It was the first one without Mum that we ever took.
The next time a family portrait graced the wall, a new person had joined us. Severus. It took him a couple of months, but he finally came back to England to let people know that he was alive. He even gave an interview to the Daily Prophet and accepted the Order of Merlin, First Class, that had been given out posthumously.
I’ll never forget when Dad opened the door to find him standing there. Dad’s look of shock quickly changed to a lopsided grin filled with joy before he hugged Severus tightly. What I witnessed that day still touches me all these years later. And I don’t mean the tender kiss. I mean love, hope, and respect. Of course they were inseparable after that, Dad living with him part of the year and him living in London part of the year. It was a compromise they were both eager to make if that meant they could be together. And we accepted it—all of us, eventually anyway.
Teddy and Victoire, whom my father gave Grimmauld Place to after renovating, welcomed Severus to the family right away, happy to have him. Mum’s family wasn’t as supportive at first, aside from Grandpa Arthur, Uncle George, and Aunt Hermione, but they all came around when they saw it was for the best. Scorpius’ grandfather was very angry for a long time, but that wasn’t because Severus loves my dad. It was because Severus hadn’t confided in him and because he had mourned his friend’s loss all those years.
Things are fine now, and today, as I look around the large group gathered for the Christmas feast, I can honestly say that my family is proof that enemies can become friends, that changes can be made, and that there is always hope for the future.

that was beautiful...
Typically Harry, just to say what he feels, even if it is to Snape. Looking foreward to the trip to the lake!
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
:) Glad you are liking it.
oh man, miscommunication...
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
Yeah, makes one want to say, "Wake the hell up!" Hahha
I was surprised Severus used the manatees needing a bit of protection to get Harry to agree to going to the lake. Severus is still a Slytherin after all.
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
Uh-huh. Sly, that. :)
Oh, that Snape. He'll "say the word." I just know it. Great job.
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
Let's hope so! :)
*sigh* I hate this "suffering in nobility" crap.... But at least it's very well written ;-)
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
Ah well. Hehe... It's got to be done. ~grin~

Getting closer... will Severus find the courage before the Potters leave, though?
Author's Response: One can only hope! More up in a few hours.
Isn't it funny when silence is misconstrued? I find this a really odd pairing, but you're doing a graet job of getting me completely wrapped up in their relationship so I forget 'who' it is! LOL
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
Thanks! I appreciate that compliment. :)

Thanks! I appreciate that compliment. :)
Excellent, especially mentioning Al and Scorpius. And the six-pack of beer. And the walk at dusk. Now all I wait for is a kiss ;-)
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
thanks! :) That just might happen...
I think it's wonderful that they made peace with each other, perhaps they will be able to really live again instead of just existing.
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
I'm hoping so. :)
Maybe Harry will invite Severus to visit his home...I bet he has it warded for privacy. It would be nice for Severus to finish up any loose ends in his past.
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
I think Severus should do that, but you know how stubborn he can be. :)

Ah well... *grins mischievously*
Author's Response: ~grin
I don't think Harry has to worry too much about leaving. You made it clear that Snape wants to go back in England. And I love Al's comments about his father and his new friend. *grin*
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
Well, he is thinking about what it would be like to go back, but at this point, he wouldn't. :) thanks!!!!
Thanks for the wonderful description of the scenery - I could almost feel the breeze...
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
Oh, I'm so glad! Thanks
There goes the butterfly of happiness again. The one that when you stop chasing it lights softly on your shoulder.
Very glad you took this approach.
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
Thanks ~ :)
My goodness you're quick on the draw! But that's good for all of us. I really liked the bit with Al giving his Dad advice and permission for a romp. Funny how children being to parent us after a while. LOL Your images on New Orleans make me want to visit there. I've never been, but have heard amazing things. Lovely descriptions.
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
I've so glad you're enjoying it. It's a great city to visit. Lots of fun things to do. :0
See, Severus, teenagers aren't really that bad. :)
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
LOL Imagine that! :)
I'm really enjoying this story. I like how you have the story switch back and forth between the two points of view so we can see what each is thinking. And I'm enjoying the relationship you are building between Harry and Severus.
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
thank you very much. :)
As ever, this is fantastic reading material. I like very much how it's written, alternating between Harry's and Severus' point of view. And I guess Harry's relief about Sev's feeling regarding homosexuality has nothing to do with how he thinks oh his family...
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
Teehee... I just had to get that out there. :)
YES!! We're getting somewhere with these two. Nice ploy with the AP/SM match. That'll spin the wheels for the Snarry.
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
Thanks! :)
So Severus is not opposed to homosexuality. Interesting...
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
Not at all. :)
Bubba Gump?? Too cute? Can they go for a sail on 'Jenny 1' as well? That's one of my favourite films, nice name drop. Their relationship as friends is so sweet, I'm almost loathe for it to become more. (I often feel this way about hetero-couples as well) Though I'm glad you're giving them such nice build-up, much more 'real' that way.
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
It's a real restaurant in New Orleans. My son gets his food served in a little cardboard Jenny. Hahaha!! It's amazing. I wonder if they have a link online? Hmmm. I can drag up some pictures and send to you. The whole thing has the Forrest Gump theme. If you need the waiter, you show a little sign on the table that says "Stop, Forrest!" If you don't need him, you keep it on the side that says, "Run, Forrest, Run!" Hahaha!
Response from rhiannon113 (Reviewer)
Is it a chain or just the one in New Orleans? It sounds brilliant. "Shrimp soup, shrimp sandwich, shrimp and potatoes..."
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
It's a chain as far as I can tell. I just looked it up. I can't give a live link through here, but I'll email it to you.

You know, the idea that Harry could be "Lily all over" for Severus never crossed my mind bevor - but it's simply brilliant. Of course he could, if Severus would simply allow it, and you show so nicely how well this can be and how profitable for both of them. But what puzzles me now after your musings is that Severus never before thought about Petunia's bringing up Harry - after all, he DID know her and Vernon, better than everybody else, too. If this wasn't again something JKR simply didn't think about, it must be some sign under how much pressure Severus really was.
It's lovely to see Harry's children being so sympathetic. Am I right to suppose that Harry didn't mention Albus' orientation for nothing? *smirks*
The Bubba Gump Seafood is cool!
Author's Response: I remember once in canon he almost seemed to sympathize with Harry when he asked "to whom did the dog belong" in reference to Marge's dog chasing him up the tree and the others laughing. When I found out that he knew her and knew the bitch she is, why didn't he ever think that Harry was probably treated like dirt? So, thought I'd try to mention that. :)
Bubba Gump Seafood is a great place to eat! YUMMMM
I missed Snape's POV in this chapter, but it was good nevertheless!
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
We'll have all Snape in the next. :)
I'm really enjoying this - I had to go cheat and read it all at Snapelyholidays b/c I was impatient, LOL!
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Author of Starting Over)
Hahaha! No problem. I'm guilty of doing that in the past for other stories as well. :) Glad you like it!
