Darned Child and Devsgma have combined their talents to tell you the story of what has happened to our favorite pair. It starts with a few letters from one extremely grouchy Potions maker to the manager of a used book store. Canon through Deathly Hallows to the point of Severus Snape's supposed death at which point it becomes AU.

Merely a fan playing with words.
Reviews for Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road
Oh, I just love stories with letter exchanges between our two heroes! They are so much fun, and this one is no exception. I too am interested to find out why Hermione and Ron are not together, and how long it will take before she discovers the true identity of Mr. Sophorous...I'm scurrying off to the next chapter!
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
Welcome! It's always a joy to snag – er – gain a new reader. ;) Especially one who reviews so well and consistently. Thank you so very much.
Oh dear. I somehow made the mistake of re-reading this story thinking it was completed. (Don't ask - it's too stupid a story to tell!) Now I find myself in the same limbo I was in back in March anxiously awaiting the next chapter. It's always such a wrenching and depressing moment to discover there is nothing more to read of an excellent story. Especially after a truly evil cliff-hanger.Needless to say, there are many people desperate to see what happens next. I hope you'll be giving us an update soon.
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
LOL. NP RL has as usual been a real - well, yeah. I'm sorry it's been so long, but we haven't forgotten, honest. As soon as possible there will be an update.
Hey y'all, I love this story and its been so long without an update. I hope you haven't forgotten about it. If you've just been too busy to update I will continue to patiently wait!
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
Forgotten about them? Not possible, honest. But RL and a bit of writers block is making it difficult right now. Never fear, an update will be forthcoming - I just can't promise how soon.
WOW! Can't think of anything better to say. You ladies really spin some wonderful yarns. I absolutely love what you've done with Snape & Dumbledore so far. I've wondered for a while why D never paid for what he did 'for the greater good' both as a young man & while he manipulated everyone else later on, even of he did help 'save the world' (maybe the painful withering hand was something?). I've also wondered why S never had a chance to really redeem himself completely. Keep writing & update soon. Your yarns are such good reality escapes & so therapuetic they should be made available by prescription only (please not).

ps Snape just brewed a very sticky potion. How will H get out of it? She requested D alone and now he's gone (?). What about the nightmares? What's Harry going to think of his 'mentor' when circumstances come to light (evetually some details undoubtedly will)? Well at least S had some satisfaction from dedtroying that portrait.

Thank you so much for such a wonderful review and now I'm going to take this opportunity to answer a couple of your questions. Probably not the ones you WANT answered, but I can't resist."I've wondered for a while why D never paid for what he did 'for the greater good' both as a young man & while he manipulated everyone else later on, even of he did help 'save the world' (maybe the painful withering hand was something?). I've also wondered why S never had a chance to really redeem himself completely."I think the answer to both questions is pretty simple. JKR liked DD, wanted him seen as someone who'd learned his lesson, so to speak, when his sister died and "graciously" gave his life for the cause. However, she didn't like Severus and I think was quite amazed when so many of her readers did.
i am so not an albus fan (the way he was in canon) so i found that eminently satisfying. i hope that bas***d roasts in hell. thanks so much for the superb update.
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
You're very welcome from the both of us (who are also not so much fans of DD)!
wooohooo! more please! lol this is a most excellent tale!
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
Thank you so very much from the both of us!
Minerva might just miss the portrait
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
I'm thinking that's a pretty sound bet on your part. ;)
Nasty old man.
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
Yesssh, yesh he is, my sweet.
What a superb twist! :)
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
LOL. Thank you from the both of us.
MORE MORE MORE!!!!!!

As soon as RL permits. ;)

Awe, I know ALLL about RL. Boo. RL, go away. I realllly like this story. The chicken, Yorik is brilliant. I love his and Severus' interaction.
By destroying the portrait Severus may have made the road to recovery more difficult. Of course with Hermione at his side he will find peace.
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
Of both I'm not certain, but more than likely the first.
Smart bird. Why does Severus call him a chicken?
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
Uhm, he first called him a chicken (his "pet" name for Yorick) back in Part Two.Picking up the letter, Simon read it carefully. "I'm surprised, Yorick. She apparently has learned a few things working in that book shoppe. If I were Dumbledore, I'd give her credit for the effort. But I'm not, now am I?" The falcon chuffed once and turned his back on Simon. "I can still change my mind about the mouse, you ungrateful chicken."
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
It finally occurred to me you were asking "why" and not why all of a sudden. I don't know exactly why. A perverse trait on Simon's part? A noble falcon, being called a chicken. A bird that can't even really fly that scratches around in the dirt for its dinner. A way to needle the bird, tease him in Simon's own fashion, perhaps?
Severus for breakfast... now that sounds like fun.
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
LOL. It does!
Sweet, I liked how the misunderstanding was resolved.
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
It took a bit of doing, mostly on Hermione's part, but they're headed the right way – for now anyway.
I think I would have hexed him for that comment on virgins. God, men can be so thick.
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
There's a play on words here that I think I'd better skip. ;)
I'm wondering if Dumbledore is responsible for these dreams?
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
Zipping lip here.
Did anyone ever just smack that old lady? Merlin her timing stinks.
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
Ah, poor Mrs Carmichael. Only one reader mentioned liking her. Her heart will be broken. ;)
I was very interested in the flying lesson. Hopefully we will revisit that.
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
Uhm, could be? ;) It took some time to figure out the hows and the whys of it being even possible, since JKR didn't even give us a hint, but it was fun figuring it out all the same. ;)
Very good! I love how Severus is thinking.
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
LOL I don't know that Hermione would agree with you, but I do!
Holy...now that was a heck of a twist!
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
Hee! Really? Darned Child and I were rather worried it was too "out there" to be missed really. I'm glad we're more devious than I thought.
That turned out remarkably romantic.
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
It did, didn't it.
Sounds like Ron is playing the field. I like the quiet dinner suggestion.
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
Ah, yes. But it's such a long way into the future – or is it?
Well, that chapter gave us a lot to think about.
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
I had to go back and do a quick skim to be sure what you were referring to, and yes, yes it does.
ohh...I can't believe you did that! dumbldore... scary man...
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
Scary? Probably. Ruthless? Most assuredly.
Wow. What a great confrontation.
Response from devsgma (Author of Beyond 84 Charing Cross Road)
Thank you, so very much from the both of us.
