Years after the fall of Voldemort, a mysterious illness throws the wizarding world into chaos. While struggling to find a cure, Hermione learns new things about old acquaintances, and Severus learns that self-preservation may not be the path he wants to travel. Harry learns the price of neglect, and Ron learns why “May you live in interesting times” is a curse and not a blessing. Draco learns… very little at all.

Hello, dear readers and fellow writers!
I read and write in the Inuyasha and Harry Potter fandoms, preferring non-canon pairing that involve bad boys of the fandoms: Sesshomaru, Snape, Draco, Lucius (mmm, Slytherins), and Hermione is the Potterverse bicycle.
Completed fics in the Potterverse:
* The Devil is in the Details (HG/SS - M for language and violence - and I'm happy to mention that it was a Featured Story at TPP for 2/08 and nominated for the SS/HG awards Round Two)
* For All Intents and Purposes (HG/SS - M for language and violence)
Completed fics for Inuyasha:
* Darkness (Kag/Sessh - NC17 for smut - won multiple awards at IY groups)
* To Shed a Little Light (Kag/Sessh - NC17 for smut- won multiple awards at IY groups)
* Quadrangle (Kag/Sessh - NC17 for smut)
* Moving Pictures (Sessh/OC - NC17 for smut)
* Don't Know What You've Got 'til it's Gone (Kag/IY - NC17 for smut - and this was my first fic ever, so be warned)
WIP:
* Cereal Box Romance (Kag/Sessh - Inuyasha - updated irregularly- won multiple awards at IY groups)
* Primal (Kag/Sessh - Inuyasha - pretty much abandoned)
Upcoming projects? Yes. I've got a one-shot HG/SS cooking that I may never finish or post, and I've started a multi-chapter HG/SS as well. I will probably write a number of the chapters before I start posting, so you probably won't see anything new for a while.
Reviews for Becoming Silhouettes
All those poor people dying and a quarter of Hogsmead burnt to the ground... who ever created this evil, parasitic fungus deserves to be infected with it, without benefit of Hermione's cure. That oily black sludge that was oozing from Severus' skin sounds like total yuck!I love the way Severus is so kind and loving to Hermione while he is under the influence. I'd give a week's pay just to hear him sing that lullaby to her.The photo albums were a real treat! And having one completely devoted to Hermione was a very nice surprise. Now that both Hermione and Draco are aware of Severus' interest in her, will Draco choose to bring it up to Severus?Great chapter!!!Beth

Yeah, I watch a lot of horror/sci-fi/anime so I have lots of mental imagery to pull from. :) The snakey things under the skin was partly inspired by a movie preview (The Temple, I think), but I can't remember where the sludge came from. It just seemed right. And by right, I mean gross and totally awesome. :D

I just started this story. It's Brilliant!! It's funny, and interesting, and I really like how you've characterized everyone. Draco Malfoy and Snape are pretty different, but I am really enjoying them. Thank you!

Thank you! I like to write characters at a different age than they appear in canon - it gives me a bit more leeway. As much as I try to keep them in character, I always manage to twist them a bit.

Ah, back to the Severus we all know and love. It is going to take a lot for Hermione to change his mind about being alone, isn't it?
Response from rhiannonofthemoon (Author of Becoming Silhouettes)
Acute observation! We'll see how she manages. ;)

Woo hoo! I was trying for funny, but I wasn't sure how well I had succeeded. Glad you like them! I know they are a bit different - they are older and (perhaps) wiser. Writing the story a number of years after canon gives me a bit more leeway to play. :)

I love Love, Actually. It is one of my favorite movies. I enjoyed that chapter. Poor Ron and Harry. And that mob scene is out of The Omega Man.
Response from rhiannonofthemoon (Author of Becoming Silhouettes)
It is? I think I saw that like 20 years ago. I'll have to watch it again to compare. :) Yes, I loved that movie as well. Using the quote was part of the prompt. :D

I liked the chapter. It seems that Severus is on the road to recovery and he's even getting his snark back.
Response from rhiannonofthemoon (Author of Becoming Silhouettes)
I don't think I could stomach writing a sappy Severus for too many chapters.

Pest control, cute. Love Actually was an awesome movie.
Response from rhiannonofthemoon (Author of Becoming Silhouettes)
Yes, pest control. In other words, he'll turn him into a ferret. :D

Thanks! But Severus is the photographer, not me. :) Though if I had a camera and Severus....
Response from Arabella Bloodgood (Reviewer)
oh you naughty girl i want to see those pictures lol
Response from rhiannonofthemoon (Author of Becoming Silhouettes)
Only in my dreams, unfortunately! It would make a fun fanart, though, wouldn't it? A collage of naked Severus' in glamshots poses? ;D

The shirt, Severus, ask about the shirt!
Response from rhiannonofthemoon (Author of Becoming Silhouettes)
Yeah, poor Severus. As another reviewer put it, he really is his own worst enemy.

Finally a well-executed fight scene! One can see so few around in fanfiction. Your scene was tense, frightful, expertly choreographed and with perfect balance of utter horror and thorough practice. Very enjoyable.Just what was written in that Daily Prophet? How did they subdue a disaster of such proportions? Looking forward to more.

Thanks! I try to picture them as I write them so that make some sort of sense. It helps that I watch a lot of voilent movies. :DMore to come, though probably after voting.

So he never had an intent of approaching Hermione to engage in social intercourse? That is so sad.
Response from rhiannonofthemoon (Author of Becoming Silhouettes)
No, he thinks he is happier alone. Granted, his luck has been abysmal.

Oh dear! Muggles and Wizards fighting is never a good thing, no matter who wins. (People fighting is never a good thing.) Thank you for this wonderful chapter! I am really enjoying this tale.

Oh, I love your use of that quote, and I particularly enjoyed how Draco confronted Severus about just talking to Hermione.I'm especially pleased he retained his memory of his drugged stupor. Can't wait for the next bit!
Response from rhiannonofthemoon (Author of Becoming Silhouettes)
Thanks! After seeing those albums, one would certainly wonder why he kept his distance. Of course he did! We couldn't have him forgetting the moments he spent being civil to Hermione, now can we? Nooooo...

Why that Slytherin creep! (Draco of course.) How incredibly typical for him to bribe Severus with something Hermione has full knowledge of. This was a great update and throughout the second part I was just screaming mentally for Hermione to tell him what she knew. But no, you will drag it out longer! I don't know if I can stand the agony. Oh, and that last part: totally Snape-like thinking. The man doesn't realize he's his worst enemy.Little did we know that Aurors act as part time firemen too. And oh, the Obliviates! Are the sick people turning into vampires?
Response from rhiannonofthemoon (Author of Becoming Silhouettes)
Can't have Slytherins that aren't scheming! Yes, he most definately is his own worst enemy.Well, my Aurors did. The sick people aren't turning into vampires, exactly. More like living zombies.

Hmm... creeped out by Severus' photo albums, but almost more creeped out by Draco's parting comment. LOL
Response from rhiannonofthemoon (Author of Becoming Silhouettes)
Ha! Yeah, lots of people were creeped out by the albums, including Hermione, but no one commented on Draco. ;) He has a one track mind sometimes.

I'm intrigued as to why some people are catching it from being near an infected person but Hermione doesn't seem to be getting it. I wonder if there is a reason as to why she seems to be immune...
Response from rhiannonofthemoon (Author of Becoming Silhouettes)
To be infected, one must have a healthy lungful of the mushroom's spores. The Ministry and Hogwarts had rings growing in them - the people living and working there would have had enough exposure to be infected. People working in the Department of Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures would have had enough contact to bring spore samples home on their clothes (one of the rings was growing there), as did Harry once. Hermione has managed to steer clear of direct exposure - though she has experimented with them, she hasn't had direct contact. No holes in her gloves! It isn't transmitted by being coughed on or coming in contact with skin flakes infected with rash.

Ooh... why is Severus so concerned about Hermione touching them? Very interesting...

It's been waaay to long since I've read Hitchhiker's Guide. Excellent chapter. Is the black goop all the Dark magic in Severus? That kind of sounds like the evil black stuff that killed Tasha Yar in STNG.
Response from rhiannonofthemoon (Author of Becoming Silhouettes)
I have the Hitchiker's Guide radio show, too. It is fantastic. You know, I wasn't thinking of Tasha when I wrote that, but you are absolutely correct. It was just a combination of all the horror/sci-fi stuff I watch and read. The black stuff was the destroyed manifestation of Dark Magic that one can see move under the skin of the violent infected. Yucky stuff.

AAAHHHHHHHH!!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!! MORE MORE MORE!! WONDERFUL STORY, GREAT PLOT ALL BY ITSELF, THE STORY STANDS ON IT'S OWN, THEN YOU ADD IN THE ROMANCE OF H & S ! AND THEN IT IS OVER THE TOP.
I ALWAYS LOVE AN OBSESSED S.S.
THAT IS THE ROMANCE OF HIM, HIS LOYALTY TO ONE WOMAN.

I love this story (although to be honest, I thought that it was completed, now I have to be patient!)Both your plot and characterization are spot on. At first I was worried about characterization becuase of Hermione doing the wizarding equivalent of plastic surgery (instead of something more altruistic) but I'm very happy to say that she is very much in character. I'm still debating about whether the whole picture thing is romantic or creepy (I've noticed that in some cases, there's a very fine line between romantic and creepy/stalkerish). I guess it's all about perception--if Hermione were to reciprocate his feelings, it would seem romantic, if she despised him, it would seem creepy. By the way, if you had given House Points for guessing the origin of the chapter title, I would have gotten them (I love the Cure!) even though I didn't have a clue on any of the other ones. I've only read a few of the challenge fics, but this is my favorite so far!
Response from rhiannonofthemoon (Author of Becoming Silhouettes)
No, it isn't completed, but if it makes you feel better, I'm working on Chapter 9 and have most of the rest outlined. :)I think the picture thing is a little bit of both. Fortunately for Snape's well-being, he kept the pictures vanilla. When I saw that challenge, prompt I just couldn't resist!I'll give you House Points for the Cure anyway! I love that band! I thought of that song in particular when picturing Snape thumbing through his albums on lonely evenings.I've been living so long with my pictures of you/That I almost believe that the pictures are all I can feel*sigh*
