Glad to see someone bring up Hagrid and his magic! I have often wondered why he didn't get a wand, and maybe even re-enroll in Hogwarts, after his name was cleared.Coltraine, Haha. Thanks for the new chapter! I am looking forward to your ideas about the House Elves. I love stories in which the authors use their imaginations to add details to the cannon Wizarding world.

Thanks - I always thought that he would have to cooperate with the house-elves as part of his job, so he would be more aware of their role than most. Next chapter will go in the queue once I've tidied my commas.
I am looking forward to all the house elf back story you will be inventing!

I didn't intend to, but now I'm spending my daily bus-journey gazing out of the window and thinking about house-elves. I'm trying to steer clear of actually inventing a language (though I think I've read a story where someone did - you'd know, if anyone does!).

The idea of a house elf language sounds familar...I cannot quite put my finger on it. Are you reading Caeria's Pet Project? Elves have hijacked her plot in a most amusing way. Perhaps Caeria would let you borrow some concepts?!I find myself enthralled when an author dives into "world building" You know creating all sorts of details not provided by canon, new magic, new creatures, back story etc... Its facinating. I look forward to your next chapter!!
Is Prof Snape still on staff at Hogwarts? Is Ms. Granger a published author or is this her first investigative book? Okay I'll shut up and go to the next chapter

You'll find out! But no and the second to the specific questions.
That was a nice build up chapter.

And there'll be a few more - I'm trying to set up a slightly complicated premise at the beginning rather than have a twisty plot later on (it's the lawyer in me).
lol, I love mcgonagall's passwords!
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
Now I may need to think of a few more names following that theme...
interesting start, I look forward to reading more (and, of course, to our severus showing up...)!

Thanks - I think I'm being rather brave - this is my first (ever) story.

Good beginning! I would really like to read on.
Author's Response: Thanks! Chapter 2 has just gone up.
Hooray! I love stories with House Elves! IN fact, I have used the name Tabby in the past, and just a few hours ago, I reached into the cabinet for dill weed and thought, "Dilly, that would make a good House Elf name."Good start, and makes me want to write about my Tabby, who has a story of her own. Thanks for caring about the House Elves!
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
Thanks. I thought of Tabby because of McGonagall's animagus form: there seems to be a convention that the elves' names end in a -y despite the canon presence of Kreacher (who will come into the story) - I'll need some more elf names so perhaps I'll deviate a bit.
I've just read this from the first chapter and I am loving this mystery! I have never seen the concept anywhere else and I'm looking forward to how you roll with it! Thanks for sharing!
Glad to see such respect being shown to the elves.
Mmmm, find Winky, and ask about Professor Snape, easier said, than done.
Severus lives! Severus lives! Severus lives! just so you know, I'm a Snape fan.
Yumm, thicked plot, my favorite.
Now Hermione can settle in and begin work on the book.
I know this is a work in progress, and there has been no update since '09 , but I love house elf storys and this one starts so well, I'll read as much as I can, and see what happens.
So the topic of Winky is verboten. Very curious.
Yay! House elves rule! Considering Hermione's previous relationship with them, this should prove quite interesting. Oh, and I adore eclairs, just in case Dilly made some extras.
Hee. The elves can't say. I love this.
wow! I totally did not expect the way you are taking this story! it's very interesting. I am excited to see what will come next.

I'm still enjoying this very much. Lovely chapter!
This is awesome! I really love the hgss fics where no one realizes that snape survived n I've seen some pretty interesting ways they find out but this is by far one of the most original! Can't wait for the next chapter!

Thank you!
Ah, the mystery expands. It is becoming more and more obvious to Hermione that Winky is not where they assume she was.
I've yet to leave a review for this story. It's the kind that grows on you with reading. How will Hermione find out about Winky and Snape?
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
Thank you! And Hermione needs to do what she does best - research. But not just in the library - several people have parts of the puzzle.
