So, Snape's alive... Hermione's tears at seeing his name was a lovely touch.
Very nice chapter, I look forward to the next!
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
Thank you! Yes, but he's going to be difficult to locate.
So he's not dead, then. That isn't that puzzling. More the how, I guess. This is a fun mystery.
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
Thank you! The how, and the who.

Ah, the suspense, the suspense... great chapter, I can't wait to read on!
Author's Response: Thank you!
Its because he's not dead!!
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
Maaaybe...
Hmmm - magical records can't be wrong, can they? With Hermione in her research mode, the truth will no doubt soon become clear. And it was so touching when the sight of his name brought tears to her eyes - nice touch!
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
I suspect Winky's address may be missing from the Ministry records.
So her preference for academic older men was established in her school days - wonder who that could have been? Nice foreshadowing!
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
Er - not Flitwick?
I love the House Elves, too. In fact, I would love to read Hermione's book when it's finished. Good start to your story!
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
Thank you!
"What?" Indeed! So Winky is the missing elf? Where is the next chapter? :)I really love how you mix Muggle history in here. Oh, and the idea of Kreacher's wife's head mounted in the corridor – horrible thought, but if you follow canon, that's how it must have been. I'm really looking forward to reading more.
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
Kreacher just strikes me as a bitter old widower. The next chapter is in the queue.
Heheh, these scottish actors, hm?It continues to be very interesting. I forgot to mention how much I loved the eclairs in the last chapter...I could use a high-heel stabilizing charm, I can never walk in these things. And so she looks abroad. I wonder whom she'll find... :)
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
I love the definition of 'eclair' in my dictionary: ' a cake, long in shape but short in duration, with cream filling and usu chocolate icing'. I might try and bring more patisserie into the story eventually.
This is a very interesting beginning. I love stories with house-elves, too.(I came through a rec on snapedom).
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
Thank you!
now i'm extra-intrigued. it was interesting how you imagined those elf-statistics from the ledger.
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
I'm tempted to invent a lot of entries, but I won't impose them on the reading public...
Intriguing! I am quite interested to see where you go with this. :)
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
Thank you! Maybe in the direction of an ex-Potions Master?
Annual census!Elflings!Snape????You are going to give this fan girl a heart attack! Quick update!
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
Now you've given *me* a plot idea that I hadn't realised before. *is distracted and has to make a decision* It's going to take her a little while to find him...
Lovely chapter. It's very interesting to find out more about the elves. And the cliffie *wibbles and wants to know about Snape*
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
Thanks. It's going to her take a little while to solve that puzzle.

Well done, a really nice new chapter! It's so interesting to read more about houseelves. Do you know Josan's stories, she wrote quite a bit about house elves, too?
And your last line - great cliffhanger! :o) I just hope you won't let uns hanging there too long.
Author's Response: Thanks! Of Josan's stuff I've only read 'A Man of Property' (maybe her only het story?) and that certainly has some developed elf characters - I must go and read her slash ones as well.
Alcina vom Steinsberg's response: Yes, I was referring to "A man of property". In "Resolutions", there is also a elf figuring rather prominently, though not in a leading role.
I also like "once upon a time, in Egypt" very much, though there she develops the history and culture of the goblins.
Oh my, that was interesting. I look forward for the next chapter!
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
Thanks. I just need to double-check my commas before submitting the next chapter.
Borderline evil cliffie there! Looking forward to finding out more about the house-elves and Severus.
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
Thanks. Now we have to find out what Minerva knows.
Yay! I like that Hermione is researching house-elves. Very canon. The style in which you write the details of her research flows nicely...it doesn't become overbearing and boring as ledgers (*shudders*) have a tendancy to do. I'm looking forward to reading more as Hermione digs deeper into this house-elf mystery.
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
Thanks. I really think she's going to have to learn the language.
Hee. Ledgers are lovely things. Accountants can find all sorts of things.
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
I picture it with a shabby red leather cover, smelling of old paper and real ink (antiquarian bookseller's offspring, here).
This is intriguing. The detailed house-elf records are interesting-- and a bit creepy from a sentient being as property perspective. I also like that you've intertwined Muggle historical references into your narrative.Of course, now Minerva will have some 'splaining to do. ;)
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
But did Minerva know about it?
Gah, a cliffie! Good story so far, I'm interested in seeing where this goes!
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
Thanks.

Lovely continuation! I love the idea of writing a book about elves, about learning anything at all about elves, too! Your sense of detail is wonderful. The description of Crooks meeting with Mrs. Norris - are you kept by cats, then, too? *fg* And I'm happy that finally someone explained the thing about Hagrind and his magic - I asked myself exactly the same questions.
Author's Response: Thank you! And yes, two Bengals. Hence the muddy laptop.
A preference for academics and older men, eh? I like the slow built-up of your story, looking forward to more.
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
The next chapter is awaiting justified criticism of my commas!
I like stories with house elves. Very intriguing start!
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
Thank you! They obviously have powerful magic that humans don't take into account sufficiently - this may become important...
I'm looking forward to seeing where you take this. The House Elves are something that tends to be glossed over in fanfic.
Response from Persevero (Author of One of Our Elves is Missing)
It would be easy to get bogged down in a Tolkein-esque amount of back-story. A House-Elf Lexicon, anyone?
