Set in the aftermath of OotP, Severus Snape's complicated web of lies and loyalties becomes too much to bear. A new instructor is hired, and a previously ill-fated romance gets a second chance. SS/OFC story containing romance, drama, humor, and lemons, nice juicy lemons. Revision of a story that was started prior to the release of HBP.

Just a quiet soul who loves to write. How else can I unleash my inner vixen? I love the character of Severus Snape, which is why he is in most of my fics. Romanic stories about Snape will see him with either Lily, Sinistra, or an OFC. Have fun!
Reviews for Shadow on My Heart
Loved that Callista and Severus are basically having the same dream.
Draco - I have to agree, what a prat. I loved the author's notes.
Response from Lady Whitehart (Author of Shadow on My Heart)
Seriously, that little pain in my butt held up the whole stupid chapter. I was going to use him for an important role in the story, but now he's a goner.
As always, that was wonderful. I laughed out loud when I read the Granger fantasy comment. You're not a fan of that pairing as I recall. I'm looking forward to the rest.
Response from Lady Whitehart (Author of Shadow on My Heart)
LOL But I love SS/HG! There so much to giggle over.Thank you for enjoying the chapter. Hopefully the next one will go much easier.
LOL I rather expected her to be nicer to Harry, but he did not take well to her forthright tone at all. I hope the two will find a comfortable working relationship. I'll be interested in what she tells him of her past.
Response from Lady Whitehart (Author of Shadow on My Heart)
Personally I think Harry on some level wants to be coddled a bit. I mean, he recently found out he will either be murdered or be a murderer. It will take some time, but Callista and Harry will manage. As to your last question, I haven't decided yet how much he really needs to know. Any suggestions?
Oh that is so petty of Severus, so petty. Why in Merlin's name are they sharing a classroom anyway? Plot? Doesn't the castle have any other rooms? The place is HUGE! It's really annoying, really,
Response from Lady Whitehart (Author of Shadow on My Heart)
Please don't be annoyed at me. *wibbles* Schools (even magical ones) probably wouldn't outfit anymore classrooms than they absolutely had to.
Ooooh, so she was friends with Barty Jr.! I'm really surprised that Winky told her so much. That seems rather out a cahracter, considering that Winky was still protecting Crouch's secrets in canon. And she just divulged everything. odd. I wounder how Dumbledore will spin it?
Response from Lady Whitehart (Author of Shadow on My Heart)
Winky has known Callista and Callista's family for quite sometime and probably doesn't consider the girl of another pure-blood family to be a total outsider. Dumbledore being Dumbledore will give out as little information as possible. It may even generate more confusion than it aleviates.
I think this is a mistake for possibly a note left in from your beta? At the end of the 12th or 13th paragraph "House elf-ese isn't easy, but they do seem to choose the simplest way to say something and that combo of past and present tense bothers me."Best, Gryffkat
Response from Lady Whitehart (Author of Shadow on My Heart)
Thanks for catching that. Did you like the story otherwise?
Response from GryffKat (Reviewer)
Yes, I realized after I clicked send that I should have said that I am enjoying it. I haven't had a chance yet to finish what was posted yet. I like that it is about Severus as much as the OFC. I will keep reading.
Well written and interesting... good start as the character seems well thought out... I am glad you chose to give her some history and did not start with Snape seeing her at Hogwarts... too often OC characters are not fleshed out before the story realy gets moving ... very well done
Response from Lady Whitehart (Author of Shadow on My Heart)
That was the problem with the original story. My biggest hope is that giving the OC's PoV will make things a little more interesting. Thank you for reviewing.
First off, wow. I hope this is going to be one of those long 60+ chapter stories, because 12 chapters simply won't be enough.I love this. I had forgotten how much I enjoy seeing glimpses of what Snape must have been like as a young teacher. And I really like that the nature of the relationship bothered him, even though they were so close in age. Will Snape be jealous that she will be working with Harry? Also, you mentioned some order members that were cool to her at the meeting. Are these people that knew her before she removed herself from the British wizarding world? Hope the questions don't bug you, it really is my form of affection for a story
Response from Lady Whitehart (Author of Shadow on My Heart)
Questions rarely bug me, unless the person is asking me why I don't write SS/HG. *see Ho'Moaning* The first question I can't answer, but I think you'll be able to figure it out a little later in the story. The second one: most of the Order members know her in one way or another. The fact that she disappeared shortly before the Potters were killed raised a lot of questions about her loyalties. Her father, while definitely not a DE, did share some of Voldie's ideals about the status of Muggle-borns.Here's hoping I keep hearing from you! The original had over 30 chapters before I started the re-write.
Dumbledore wants her back awfully bad. Just out of curiosity, When did you start this story, in its original form? My guess is between books 5 and 6. Anyway, I love it.
Response from Lady Whitehart (Author of Shadow on My Heart)
The original was started back in May of 2005 *cringes*. I'm glad you love.
I came to read this story "by accident", I like it and are looking forward to following it from now on. Looking forward eagerly for the next chapter
Response from Lady Whitehart (Author of Shadow on My Heart)
Thank you. Sometimes accidents aren't always bad things. Hope to hear from you again soon.
I'm pleased to see that you are posting the revision here too. TPP needs more Snape OFC stories to balance out the overload of SS/HG. Some more stories with Snape and other canon females wouldn't come amiss either. I've read some really cute Snape/adult Luna stories lately and I enjoyed the 'iresistable force vs old immovable object' of the opposites attract that those stories project.
Response from Lady Whitehart (Author of Shadow on My Heart)
Since I write mainly to please myself and a small handful of people, I figured what the heck, might as well. OFC's have it rough in the fandom, but I think Severus would be much happier with someone his own age. Thanks for commenting!
I love your story. In the book it is McGonagal who is the wittnes ot the infamous kiss. But you have of cource an authors right to bend the story to your liking. Beeing a fan of Severus Snape I cannot help defending him.
Response from Lady Whitehart (Author of Shadow on My Heart)
Defend away. Snape needs someone in his corner too.Hope to hear from you again.
Oh the little battle of willand desires that these two go through. I actually enjoyed the scene in the Potions lab. with a little patience, she'll have more placenta come spring. I do hope that the little unicorn surrives.
Response from Lady Whitehart (Author of Shadow on My Heart)
I want to bring said little unicorn up in the story again but that would require me to write more Hagrid. *cringe* There will be more trips to the Forbidden Forest come spring. Hopefully Severus and Callista will make them together. ;)Don't know about you, but I can't stand someone hovering over me while I try to work.
I also think I was reading the original before. I like this story very much and while I don't review much, I will be reading. I like that your OFC is not maudlin or saccharine. I enjoy that Severus is not OOC either. My husband in now mad at me because I have been reading this story and not attending to Saturday chores. I look forward to more.
Response from Lady Whitehart (Author of Shadow on My Heart)
There will be some changes from the original, especially because in a few places I wrote myself into a corner. ONe of hte pros of fanfic: You can always change it. Sugar-coated OFCs and OOC Snapes are two of my greatest fanfic pet peeves. Here's hoping I keep from writing them. Back to those chores! The sooner you get them done; the soon you can read more fanfic. :)
I loved that she drifted off to sleep with her father singing. Very Sweet.
Response from Lady Whitehart (Author of Shadow on My Heart)
She's definitely a 'daddy's girl'.
I love this story. In fact, I went on a quest to find the rest of the original. I only read a few chapters of the original version (the fact you had taken it down on all of those other sites made me feel a little guilty) but as good as that first one was, this version is incredible. I can't wait to read the rest. I did discover that you wrote the very first Snape fan fic (maybe the first fan fic) that I ever read. On my first visit to Occumency, I hit the random button and "A Single Strand" popped up on the screen. I was hooked. I was too shy to review then, so I'm glad for the chance to make amends now.
Response from Lady Whitehart (Author of Shadow on My Heart)
Thanks,
Response from Lady Whitehart (Author of Shadow on My Heart)
! I started writing this story 5 years ago and hopefully my writing has greatly improved. I'm glad you loved "A Single Strand" and I hope you went on to read and review Veirty's A Merciless Affection too. *hugs*
Are you sure Dumbledore didn't have a hand in everything getting screwed up for her? (Sorry, I'm not a huge fan of Dumbledore these days.) I can't wait to read the rest of the story.
Response from Lady Whitehart (Author of Shadow on My Heart)
DH kind of killed my love of Dumbledore as well. I respect his character for his academic achievement but the man really needed to just keep to the classroom. Keep reading and let me know what you think.
Yes, I am at least! Hi! Ok, I had to backtrack a bit to reaquaint, but I'm caught up and rearing to go... Callista is settling in. Good of her to NOT rise to Severus' ill-manners. "O" and I loved that Minerva gave her a true evaluation of Harry.
Response from Lady Whitehart (Author of Shadow on My Heart)
As much as I love Snape's character (Why else would I write him?) he has only slightly more maturity than the seventh-years at times. While he's spent the majority of his life at school, Callista has moved on to the adult world. Some Snape fans hate Harry because "Harry was always so rude to Severus," but I'm not one of those people. I'm glad you sticking around, as it's really hard for a SS/OFC fic to carve a niche on a mostly SS/HG archive.
Response from beaweasley2 (Reviewer)
Hey, don't I know it! I still write an occasional Weasley twins story! or with minor canon characters! Teehehe
Response from Lady Whitehart (Author of Shadow on My Heart)
I love your stories. They're always fresh and interesting.
