Reviews for On the Edge of the Night
It's fitting in with canon nicely. :)

Thank you :o)) I am glad to hear that as I was hoping on filling some of the canon blanks ;)
Great to have you back. Love the way the plot unfolds.

Thank you :O))
OMG Poor Severus. His story is agonizingly painful. I just breaks my heart. When I read OOTP the first time, when I read about what Harry saw in the pensieve, I knew that he loved Lily. It hit me like a ton of bricks. Then when I read HBP there was nothing in there that would convince me that Snape WANTED to kill Dumbledore. Nothing could shake my confidence in his being on the side of light. I was a Snape fan from the first time I read about him. I knew there was more to him and that was intriguing. Anyway, I love reading stories that explore this in more detail.

Well, Severus' story is heartbreaking, but as the books are told from Harry's point of view we can only imagine how heartbreaking it truly is and what happens "behind the scenes". Which is some kind of wonderful as otherwise this story wouldn't have come to life :))) Thank you so much for your review. Sel.
Hey Selinabln, I just wanted to send a little warning your way that you are dangerously close to hitting the year mark since your last update of this great story. I don't want to alarm you, but I've heard that really bad things happen if you don't make the deadline. I can only guess what that means: vampires, flesh eating bacteria, raging case of chicken pox... I don't know, but I don't want you to find out. So please make sure you get the next chapter in on time. *waits to see if scare tactics work*
Response from selinabln (Author of On the Edge of the Night)
.... and unfortunately, I missed the year mark due to RL. However, I am finally back to writing, the next chapter (around 8000 words so far, so it could be the next two chapters as well) are finished and will, if all goes well, go to my wonderful betas by next weekend. Sel.
Hi there. I just re-read this wonderful story without checking to see if it was complete (don't ask). Yes, I'm a dunderhead. And yes, I'm going to ask if you're ever going to finish it? I am completely loving it (for the second time) and would love to see it completed.
Response from selinabln (Author of On the Edge of the Night)
I am so sorry I've been away for so long and neglected OEN. But I am back now and the new chapter is finished and will go to the betas by next weekend. So, there should be an update soon. Hopefully, before May :-))

Welcome back! That's fantastic to hear we're going to get an update soon. I'm off to re-read the entire story so I can be ready for the new chappy!!
This story is fabulous. The scene where Hermione realizes that "Lily" is Lily Evans is so powerful I whimpered. Please, PLEASE continue this. I think that JKR purposely left us gigantic blanks in her stories so that we can imagine what the characters must be going through when we're not with them. It is very rare to find a story that does a worthy job of filling those blanks. This is one of them.
Response from selinabln (Author of On the Edge of the Night)
Thank you so much :)) I am sorry for my late reply. But as RL kept me from writing and updating, it kept me from answering reviews as well. I hope that you like the way the story moves on, now that it is going to be updated again. Sel.
I hope you'll continue this - it really is unique. :)
Response from selinabln (Author of On the Edge of the Night)
Thank you so much :))
Beautiful short piece. Though I'm glad you elaborated. Thank you!
Are you coming back? This story is quite good, hope you haven't given up. Just wanted to let you know you still have interested readers. Keep up the good work!
Response from selinabln (Author of On the Edge of the Night)
I am coming back. Actually, the next chapter is nearly done and already around 6000 words, however, I am not sure if I'll post it until I have the draft for the next one done as well. Thanks for letting me know that you are still interested in reading OEN. If it helps to bridge the waiting time for you, I'll be glad to provide an early snippet of the next chapter :o))
Response from HBAR (Reviewer)
I can wait. Plenty of other great fics out there to keep me busy. Just knowing there is more to come will suffice :) I'll be looking forward to it!
I am exceedingly happy to see an update to this most wonderful story! The juxtaposition of Hermione's discovery of who Severus' Lily was, along with Severus' anger at Harry discovering *that* scene in the Pensieve was very well written.
You have me clamouring for more! Very very well done.
"Her presence. Her smile. Her laughter. Lost forever. Forever. He gasped for air as the ancient pain curled once more around his heart, crushing it until there seemed to be nothing left but a pounding, empty shell. With one movement, he overthrew the working table. All around him, more glass shattered, and his hands still shook as he leaned against the next potions shelf. He had long ago accepted that he was alone – alone to face the things to come – alone in this damned dungeon, among people who despised him – alone between two masters. He would even be alone when the end came. It was his curse, his obligation and it was entirely his own damned fault."I don't think I have ever read such a heart-rendingly perfect summation of his torment in seven succinct sentences. I'm thinking of printing off these three paragraphs and slipping it into my copy of DH---it is a fitting tribute to the heartbreak and inner agony of the man that JKR dismissed so cavalierly.Masterful! I can't wait to see how you're planning to ease Hermione past his pride, to the point that she "can" be there for him, whenever he needs her. I hope we're going into this for the long haul, given that you've said your story is "DH compliant", yet we're only in Book 5. More? Absolutely!

I have to apologize that I have only now the chance to respond to your wonderful review,

. Thank you so much, I was speechless the first time I read it, and in a way, I still am now. I hope, now that I have finally the time to continue and hopefully finish this story, that you will accompany on the way–even after all this time. All the best, Sel.
poor severus. so much of his life was crap. wonderful update, tho. thanks so much
I'm so glad to see this story up again; it is, without doubt, one of the very best I've ever read. So many writers forget to fill us in on Snape's background and, in particular, his real reasons for doing things and the sacrifices he makes along the way. This shows the 'inner' Snape as well as the 'outer' one that he is forced to show to the world which is something that results in such terrible conflict for him and presents him in such a bad light to those too dense to look beyond what they see (something I have tried to get across myself in my own stories/poems.)I love the slow 'build up' of his feelings for Hermione (and hers for him for that matter) - I truly hope this will progress as the story continues. I wait with bated breath for the next update - such is the power of your writing that I simply can't stop reading it once I start! :-)

Thank you so much :)) I know it has been a long time since I updated On the Edge of the Night, but now that the new chapters are finally up, I hope you like how the story moves on. Sel.
Poor Severus, so much pressure.
That was heartbreaking.
Response from selinabln (Author of On the Edge of the Night)
I know, it hurt to write too :o(
Amanzing start.
Response from selinabln (Author of On the Edge of the Night)
Aaw, thank you :o)
I loved this . . . the characterizations were so very true. I know that the ending cannot be a happy one, but I wish that you would continue weaving this story. Thank you for a gripping, very well done story (so far!).
Response from selinabln (Author of On the Edge of the Night)
I am very glad you enjoyed it so far... but why so pessimistic about the outcome? ;o) Thank you so much for leaving a review. Sel.
Definitely love it! It seems to me that Severus is slowly finding room in his heart for another pretty Gryffindor know-it-all, even if he doesn't quite fully realize that fact. Although he does seem to note the fact that Hermione is much on his mind of late. Excellent story, I am very much enjoying your work!
Response from selinabln (Author of On the Edge of the Night)
Thank you :o) I am so glad that you liked it so far :o)) Well, at the moment Severus is mostly bewildered by the kindness and compassion she showed him, don't forget how it must feel for somebody who so seldom in his life experienced something like that...
Love it. Want more. Enough? ;-)
Response from selinabln (Author of On the Edge of the Night)
Absolutely enough ;o)) Thank you so much,

:o)
Hermione finding out about Lily almost simultaneously with Severus' explosion of anger was really well-written! The juxtaposition of the two extremes of emotion, coming from the same source was just... wow. I'm speechless. (Okay, not really, or I wouldn't be typing all this)
I'm looking forward to see if Sev's recent memory of Hermione's kindness hasn't become more important to him than all these old memories of Lily that he's currently reliving in the Pensieve... wouldn't that be a shock to his senses?
Please keep writing, and I'll keep reading!
Response from selinabln (Author of On the Edge of the Night)
Well, the only thing I dare to say about that memory is, why if it weren't already important to him would he still hide it in the Pensieve during his Occlumency lessons with Harry when he visited it weeks ago? ;o)Thank you so much for your wonderful reviews. They really keep me going with this story :o))
Loving it!
Response from selinabln (Author of On the Edge of the Night)
Thank you, glad to hear that :o))
The scene in the apothecary was wonderful to read; I think your characterization of Severus is spot on, and I also particularly enjoyed the later scene in Dumbledore's office where he takes the Headmaster to task for allowing first-years to be tortured with Delores' quill. This is quickly shaping up to be a fascinating read, and I am very quickly indeed flying off the next chapter!
Response from selinabln (Author of On the Edge of the Night)
Well, it always bothered me in canon that they allowed Umbridge to do that to Harry as well as to Lee Jordan for example so I truly wanted to adress the problem in this chapter ;o) Thank you so much for your lovely review.
"...otherwise the Dark Lord would pull him apart like warm bread." That was great! And I got this vivid image of hot steamy bread fresh from the oven being pulled apart, which makes me want to make some right now. But I won't, because I need to read the next chapters! I am enjoying this story very much so far, and will make this review brief so that I can get on with the reading... Excellent stuff!
Response from selinabln (Author of On the Edge of the Night)
Aaww. Thank you :o) I am thrilled that you liked the image.
I love it! Watching Hermione uncover the truth was heart-wrenching. I can't wait to see what she does next!
Response from selinabln (Author of On the Edge of the Night)
I am so delighted the scene worked for you, and thank you so much for letting me know :o)
