A little light reading and a chance comment lead Hermione to discover that Snape has nowhere to spend Christmas. But is dragging him home for the holidays really a good idea? (A WIKTT Christmas 2003 challenge fic; AU w/HBP & DH)

Reviews for The First Faint Glimmer
I am really enjoying this story so far and look forward to more! I love Hermione's family and I think you've really captured severus' character. Excellent work!
"I'm not sure I like this section much anymore" Well, I do, though my shoulders tensed at the mere thought of Hamleys at Christmas! And as at Christmas 2007 they had some superb toy snakes - perhaps Genie would like one?
It's unfortunate that he abandoned Hermione in the store, but I think he definitely had reason too. I hope you give us more insight into his character and childhood.
Katherine Brooke with more than a touch of Dean Priest from the 'Emily' series. He is by far my favourite L.M. Montgomery character and I've never forgiven her for having Emily dump him. *contemplates bizarre variety of her reading*
Oh, yes. I'm very much enjoying!I wonder what will happen re: his leaving her. Will she wander, looking for him? Will Something Dreadful Happen? Or will she take it in her stride because she's accustomed to dealing with the great bat?And he didn't get Genie a present. :(
Another chapter, another joy. (except the end, there) Oh, but that'a what we love about Severus, the feelings under the mask of indifference. Poor dear, I'm sorry he didn't have a happier time. Gift shopping can be quite enjoyable in the right company and in the right mood. Thanks for that peep into Severus's childhood.
i don't know how i overlooked this story before, but i'm glad i'm reading it now. i really appreciate all the dry sarcasm and touches of humor. and i like how you've given hermione a little sister to get under snape's skin a bit. a very enjoyable read.
Excellent chapter. I should say ANOTHER excellent chapter. This is well done and you have portrayed Hermione's family logically. They are the sort of people who would have produced Hermione.
Good chapter and I am glad that she offered to shop with him. He must have been shocked by the hard rock.. bless the wizard. He must think her on the way to darkness by that - LOL

*grins* That's right! Voldemort Metallica!
That "If I must" was so put upon. That man has no idea what giving in a little will do, does he?
Still well done! And now Hermione's taste in music is getting a round of applause from my Husband... Mention Queensryche in a future chapter, and he'll be utterly amazed! The characterizations are still spot-on, and I'm glad that Snape is proving to be a tough nut to crack. Can't wait until the next chapter!
Response from Ladymage Samiko (Author of The First Faint Glimmer)
Thanks! No Queensryche as yet; the play list so far includes some Aerosmith, Guns n Roses, and Bon Jovi. Hope that doesn't disappoint!
I just wanted to leave a review telling you how much I'm enjoying your story so far! Your story is officially the first one I've added to my Favorites lists on this site. Love the characterizations, as well as the addition of a younger sister to Hermione's family. And I'm thrilled that you've made her a David Bowie fan! Well done!
I am so glad to see that real life has allowed you the time to get back to this story. I long to see Snape's breakdown. I remember the scene from Anne of Avonlea so well when Katherine asks Anne, "Has life never frightened you with its bleakness" and "this is the first place I have ever been to that feels like a real home". Well done again. Irish
Response from Ladymage Samiko (Author of The First Faint Glimmer)
Thanks. I've been watching A.of Avonlea again and I'm amazed by how excellent the actors were, esp. Rosemary Dunsmore(Katharine)…
WOW! I really enjoyed your characterisations, they are fantastic. All are very well rounded and the Granger family characterisations reinforce Hermione's. I am so looking forward to more of this.Cheers.
Tempting him with the British Museum as the only way to get him out of his room... hm, any way he regressed in age 20 years? Sounds like a surly teenager to me!
Response from Ladymage Samiko (Author of The First Faint Glimmer)
I think in a lot of ways he never got past surly teenager mode...
I love this story! And I love Cyrano! I just recently saw it on Broadway with Kevin Kline and Jennifer Garner, and it was wonderful!
I believe I already reviewed this chapter on ashwinder, but i wanted to comment about ladyluv's comment about Snape spending time in a normal family. Not only can he not miss what he never knew existed, (an excellent point, Ladyluv!) But being in this loving family also gives him a bigger idea of what he was fighting for.
That was cute.
I enjoyed their interaction. Hermione may have begun nervous, but she worked into her own quickly and was able to keep up with his quips.
Response from Ladymage Samiko (Author of The First Faint Glimmer)
*grins* I figure she's had a goodly amount of time to work out a defense mechanism…
Very nice. Well written. I'm looking forward to more.
Well, his acceptance was just about on par with Katherine's. I will never be able to watch those movies or read those books (and yes I do reread and rewatch them) again without thinking of Severus. I wonder will he have the same epifany as Katherine did? Well done I am much enjoying this story. Irish
Response from Ladymage Samiko (Author of The First Faint Glimmer)
um, apologies…? *^_^* I hope it doesn't have _too_ much of an effect on your re-read/watch; I do the same, which is how this story was born. (I do, however, avoid the last Anne movie. *shudder*)
Response from irishredlass (Reviewer)
No need to apologize! I will still enjoy them all the same. I am also sooo glad to hear that I am not the only thing that thinks that last movie is an abomination. I own it (in VHS) only because it goes to the set. When I bought the DVDs I skipped it. Irish
Once again someone draws yet another similarity between Hermione and myself. I ask you is my hair not enough? Now she has my taste in "Muggle Literature", the Anne of Green Gables series is one of my absolute favorites. I always identified with Anne...I think Hermione does too those she is not an orphan in the traditional sense. Neither am I. Also, what a brilliant comparison of Severus to Katherine Brook...and so appropriate! Well done! Irish
I think I remember this story! I'm glad you decided to continue it. I look forward to reading more.
My favorite of the "Anne" books has always been "Windy Poplars". This is an intriguing beginning. I'm looking forward to more!
love it!
