Severus believes he has his double-role under control, but Dumbledore thinks it is becoming too dangerous. Rowan, a seventh year student with a crush on Severus, falls victim to the ensuing events. How can it come out right for either of them? Begun pre-HBP, now AU, but will be completed as originally planned.

Working mom. Cute but time-consuming kids. Too many hobbies. You know the drill.
Reviews for Rowan's Secret
That Luna is pretty clever on her own. I suspect she could be quite helpful as time goes on. It's interesting to read this, knowing that it was written so long ago and knowing what ended up being in HBP and DH. Some things are very similar and others are of course AU. Fascinating.
Response from Owlbait (Author of Rowan's Secret)
Yes, re-reading I wince at some things, but others have stood up well. Snape, is pretty good, apart from not being hopelessly in love with a dead woman, which would have been inconvenient for Rowan. ;)
This is an interesting character and project. I'll have to see what happens to her.
Response from Owlbait (Author of Rowan's Secret)
Why thank you, I hope you enjoy it. Thanks for reviewing :)
I thought she was going to ask him if he was interested before the Solsrice... ;)
Response from Owlbait (Author of Rowan's Secret)
she's not quite brave enough to ask him that (yet)
She is very organised with her thinking. True Ravenclaw. :)
Response from Owlbait (Author of Rowan's Secret)
Especially in the teeth of Snape's proposal and attitude! The Honking Daffs are the voice of the author in this chapter. :)
Full marks to Rowan, and even Dumbledore today! :)
Response from Owlbait (Author of Rowan's Secret)
Thank you. I'm thrilled you are having so much fun.
Ha! She decided she was willing, ergo the potion was defunct! Smart girl. :)
Response from Owlbait (Author of Rowan's Secret)
Exactly so. Dark magic just doesn't work right in the face of wiling sacrifice. Ravenclaws can be brave too, but they are smart enough to apply it judiciously ;^)
She's a strong and sensible woman. :)
Response from Owlbait (Author of Rowan's Secret)
Yes, I like common sense in my characters. She's still had a rough time of it though, you may have to have a little patience with her in the ensuing chapters.
What? Dumbledore has found a scruple or two? Bet he loses it again! :D
Response from Owlbait (Author of Rowan's Secret)
ROFL - remember this was written before HPB, let alone DH. I was still taken in by the twinkling and lemon drops.
I suspect the final ingredient will indeed test Snape's mettle. :0
Response from Owlbait (Author of Rowan's Secret)
It shall indeed. Rowan's too, but they'll both pass the test.
So, I found your fic a week or two ago, and I have been thoroughly enjoying it. I'm a hardcore SS/HG shipper and I ALWAYS loathe SS/OFC fics, but something about your summary intrigued me and I was hooked from the first chapter. I love Rowan and I love your writing. I am so sad to see that you don't have more reviews--you totally should! This is a quality piece of writing! Although I don't think that I've been converted to OFCs, I think that this fic will forever be the exception. Thanks so much for taking the time to write this. I am very entertained by it.
Response from Owlbait (Author of Rowan's Secret)
That is so flattering, thank you. I perfectly understand the allergy to OFCs. I'm only a fan of my own and a very few others I do have a fair review collection at the other places RS is archived (I found TPP later and haven't brought everything over yet) so you don't need to feel too bad for me - but I still love every new one and am deeply grateful to everyone who likes the story enough to write something.
ooh! interesting story! i can't wait to see some more of this. "Cheers!"
Response from Owlbait (Author of Rowan's Secret)
welcome aboard! check your seatbelt :)
Uh oh, not good. She really needs that invisibility fabric! :0
Response from Owlbait (Author of Rowan's Secret)
It's a little late now, and the invisible fabric won't help at all.
Ooo, a trap! :0
Response from Owlbait (Author of Rowan's Secret)
It's hard to be trusting, with the sort of minions you get these days.
what a challenging concept!!are you intending to continue this story? I'd very much like to see where it leads to! Rowan is your creation, but you managed not to make her a Mary Sue, and still capturing. That's great. Nice writing style. too. Please, go on!
Response from Owlbait (Author of Rowan's Secret)
Thank you! I'm egregiously overdue, but yes, going to finish.
ooohhhh! you'd better finish this story! don't let it hang!
Response from Owlbait (Author of Rowan's Secret)
I will, really. Ok it's years late but it will get done.
HAHAHAHA if you cannot think of a position you will be assigned one!!! hahahahaha wonderful!
Response from Owlbait (Author of Rowan's Secret)
heehee, yes. I couldn't face making Snape actually say that, but in Rowan's imagination all manner of silly things could happen.
Oooohhh...tricky tricky tom!
more please?
Response from Owlbait (Author of Rowan's Secret)
There is more, at long last :)
I'm nervous for Snape here, and I'm shocked to see a Dumbledore that doesn't want anyone "used" for HIS purposes (keeping the spy in camp). It's refreshing to have a different type of Dumbledore, somewhat.
Response from Owlbait (Author of Rowan's Secret)
Looks like a non-canon Dumbledore after all. Ah well, I get to revel in my delusions for as long as the story lasts ;)
I liked the chapter and how it showed us a little more of their "feelings" for each other.
Ah, what a tangled web we weave. Old Voldie's at it again. :)
I like the way you eased in a little more background about Rowan, and I found the interaction with her friends and Edgar pleasant. There'sn nothing worse than trying to get out of a date with a nice guy and keeping from hurting him. LOLI am hoping that Snape doesn't fall for Malfoy's and Voldemort's trickery. At this point, when I first read it, I formed a guess as to what was to come. Knowing what I know now, having read a few chapters further than this, I was right.
I've finally had a chance to come and leave a few reviews. I do like this story from what I've seen so far. The start of it is just enough to pull the reader in, causing her to want more. I'm not much of a fan of Snape and original characters, but I do like Rowan.
Their building a nice relationship now, but the foreshadowing of things to come is ominous. :)
Response from Owlbait (Author of Rowan's Secret)
That final year is rough even in alternate universes. At least in this one, Snape has someone to cuddle :o)
Aw... that's a sweet life that they have together. It won't be as nice when school starts back up, but for now, it's lovely.
Response from Owlbait (Author of Rowan's Secret)
Thank you, that was all so much fun to imagine.
It seems they've both settled down into domesticity quite well, though there will be some adjustments made in public due to Severus' position in the Death Eaters. I wonder if it's ever been addressed - the familiarity you have with Rowan's hobby of spinning. Is it a hobby you have yourself?
Response from Owlbait (Author of Rowan's Secret)
Yup, you've cought me. Purest self-insertion there. The bit with the medicine fluff happened, but no Hogwarts letter, alas.
Response from Severus49 (Reviewer)
Aha! Well, there's nothing wrong with a little hidden self-promotion of how well you know your own craft!
