When one's world is smoke and ashes, comfort comes from the most unlikely places. Please note: no fluff here. I leave it to your interpretation as to whether there's hope.

Mostly Harmless! Though I have to admit, I'm even stranger than I appear. ;-) There's a pile of unbeta'd stuff on my LJ (dracfic) if you're interested in Raw, Untamed, fanfic.
Believe it or not, "How Argus Filch Got Wild, Got Laid, and Got His Magic" has been rec'ed by Know It Alls! It's true! They gave me this pretty lil' ribbon and everything! And in March 2007, they saw fit to likewise reccommend (as an antidote to angst) the story that started it all, 'Courtesy of Your Fairy God-Jarvey'--just in time for the first anniversary of that story's posting! *hugs Harm*
(I also have to admit that 'mostly harmless' may not be the most apt description of a member of the Mad Chatters...)
Finally, I just have to say... Storyville. If you were there, you know what I mean.Reviews for Things in Common
Oh, absolutely wonderful. Very bittersweet, but so well done.

Thank you very much. Whether the inspiration is light or dark, I try my best to do it justice.
Lovely. Serenely sorrowful, yet they support each other. I'm so glad you posted this.

Thank you. It's always a bit like jumping off a cliff, posting anything--when it's something different than one's usual fare, the cliff gets exponentially higher! Kind reviews make for a soft landing.
Odd how the bleak stories have the potential to offer the most hope at the end. Beautiful.

I'm glad there was beauty in it for you. Thank you very much for reviewing.
Beatuiful, as usual, D!! *sniff*It seems bleak, but it's very poignant. Great job!! GG

Thank you kindly. Perhaps I'll consider writing from my dark side once in a while...
Definitely worth posting!
Oh, and the garden. They had a lovely garden. Roses grew over the gate, and the fragrance of crisp herbs wafted. There were vegetables and an apple tree. There was nothing too sweet growing. Death had a sweet smell; mint was the herb that smelled least like it. They each had mint under their bedroom windows. They never questioned each other as to why.
That's a beautiful, simple and chilling paragraph right there. I think it's even better than the snippet you teased me with the other night.
Before the last line it felt like it would end badly. Not violently or anything, just... disinterest. But the last line is quite powerful in its hope. Well done, Dracontia! I'm glad you posted this!

Thank you for encouraging me to post it! It probably would have withered away on my hard drive, otherwise. I don't normally let anyone have a peek into my darker corners... I guess there's something redeemable there, after all. :-)
Beautiful and moving, two wounded people helping each other to heal.
Response from dracontia (Author of Things in Common)
Thank you kindly for the encouragement. :-)
That was beautifully and masterfully written. What a true ... well, I was going to say 'joy,' but it was so heartwrenching, I don't think I can say that. What a truly enlightening (oh, but that's not correct either. It will have to do.) experience this was. You have correctly caputured the inevitable sadness they are both feeling. I was shocked by the blunt description of the carnage on the battlefield, but I am also very glad that it wasn't sugar-coated. Truly a marvelous story.
The way in which you wrote in the characters, 'he' and 'she' instead of 'Severus' and 'Hermione' was a breath of fresh air that one seldom finds in the fandom world. Well done!

Thank you very much. I wasn't sure if I could write anything except goofiness. Your kind words are very encouraging in my efforts to broaden my range of genres.
Beautiful

Thank you. I feel much better about posting this, with the responses. :-)
averygoodun was right, that was definitively worth posting.
Response from dracontia (Author of Things in Common)
Thank you! I was quite nervous about posting anything that lacked humor. I'm glad it proved worthwhile.
That was very sad for both of them. A moment of hope, and a lifetime of despair hidden beneath the facade of monotony.
Response from dracontia (Author of Things in Common)
At that juncture, I think monotony was actually a comfort... another layer of sadness, that. Thank you most kindly for taking the time to review.
