Hermione Granger has had enough. What with the war over and Voldemort gone, she finds the confining walls of Hogwarts overbearingly trying. And with just a month left to graduation, she needs to find a way to make her snarky Potions professor accept her dinner invitation – even though she doesn't want him to.

Reviews for Something Akin to Normalcy
Utterly and completely enjoyed this story. Thanks for sharing your wonderful abilities.
"Well." He peered at her over his coffee mug. "I actually brew my own beauty potions."
What a fun story. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.
Oh no. That wasn't supposed to happen. Guess I'll have to see what the next chapter holds.
Oh my. Whiskey wasn't the only thing stolen in this chapter.
(on a side note, I love Scott Bradlee)
"You just wait until my father hears about this," Hermione quipped.
I haven't read the entire story but feel certain this is the best line in it.
Together at last, Dumbeldor has a lot of pain to answer for. Not only has Severus been suffering for a decade, Hermione and Christopher have been through a hell of a different kind. I'm glad to see Hermione has not lost her "Gryffindor tendencys", and is unwilling to go slowly. P.S. loved the AR reference, it's one of my favourites.
A light for those of us with lost loves. Not convincing for us to make a move though.
I know that Dumbeldor was right to rake Severus over the coals, for consorting with a student, but after seeing the state Hermione was in he could have explained, that Severus had been forbidden to speake to her. If she has married that hapless prat, she'll be sorry, and so will he.
What? That's it? You are a very ebil author... I'm tearing my hair out, and you just tell me that Severus is left "in the midst of a lifetime of ashes"... and Hermione is wearing a WEDDING RING? Please tell me that she hasn't married Christopher.Oh good Lord! This caught me totally by surprise. I listened to Either Way I Lose, and I can't decide who would be the one singing that song, but it's either Severus all by himself, or the two of them singing a duet. But I'd love for it to be Christopher doing the singing as he put that ring in his pocket on his way out the door.(You could not have chosen a more perfect song for this chapter!!!)Please, please, PLEASE tell me you're going to fix this. I'm dying here. Drowning in my own tears. This was a great chapter, missy. I've got to give you props– you really out did yourself.BethPS- Five Stars are not nearly enough to do this chapter justice.

Oh, wow. Thank you, Beth! This really means a lot! The final chapter should be up any day now, I hope you enjoy the ending! :)
Brilliant update. I still think Hermione should be more mad at both Severus and Minerva, but I guess if she is happy... Just promise me that if Severus does not give her the letter of recommandation, she will wipe his hands of him and leave for France, find herself a sexy French lover and never look back.
"Lead the way"can't wait for the next up date.
I was thrilled when I saw that this story had been updated!!!
After reading Christopher's letter I understood perfectly why Hermione was out of sorts, and I'm very glad she didn't tell Ginny anything about what was going through her mind... loose lips sink ships and all that...
It cracked me up when Severus accidentally-on-purpose popped Ron in the back of the head when he started to kiss Hermione's cheek It made me wonder if he would soon do or say something to let Hermione know that he really was interested in staying in touch after she graduated. AND DID HE EVER!
Snape looked at her hesitantly. Then he slowly bent down, placing his lips a mere breath away from hers. Just before he gently closed the gap between them, he whispered, "Unless you would like to join me."
I can't wait to see what happens next? There are all kinds of scenarios running through my mind, and I want this "date" to go really well. The lyrics to We Can't Stop seem to sum up this magic that is happening between Hermione and Severus:
And we can't stop
And we won't stop
We run things, things don't run we
Don't take nothing from nobody
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, ehh
Well done!!! And thanks for the link to the video. Scott Bradlee & Postmodern Jukebox are new to me.
Beth
Loved the updates. I for one can actually understand Hermiones frustration and anger. She might not go on about it the right way, but I can fully understand her feelings and actions. To be totally honest, I would probably have been hotheaded enough to have told dear old Minerva that if that was the view of my person, I was perfectly fine leaving said school immediately and promptly gone to pack my things and left without looking back. Luckily Hermione ain't as hotheaded as I am:-)) Please don't let her crumble and beg anyone for forgiveness, I love this Hermione who actually dares set limits for how she let anyone treats her (and quite frankly, I think Severus really needs someone to tell him to behave like a somewhat decent being, Dumbledore certainly aint doing a good job with that, nor does Minerva think any Professor has any need for showing respect for the students. The war is over and while I love the snarky potionsmaster there is a whole world in difference between being snarky and downright rude, hurtful and mean. Besides, Severus would probably never be interested in a doormat, he needs someone to rock his world.
"Everybody does stupid things. But it shouldn't cost them everything they want in life." How true! I couldn't believe Hermione had the audacity to ask Mr. Palmer if he was married to Dolores Umbridge. And then I was gob smacked when he said he still was. Poor man. Perhaps Delores will "give up the ghost" one of these days, and he will have a chance at a new life. (This gives me a new meaning to the song by Bobby Vee.)Of course Severus would be on his best behavior when he saw Hermione and Mr. Palmer walking back from the lake. Yes, he is a challenge... that's why we love him so much. *grins*Great chapter!!!Beth

Well, she can be quite nosy when she wants too! :) Thank you for reading and for reviewing, Beth! I really appreciate it!
VERY nicely done!!!
Loved the update:-))

Glad you liked it! :)
Her cup runneth over and then some. I think both of them were very lucky Minerva came along and "collected" their wands before someone lost an eye.I can't wait to hear what the two of them have to say for themselves when they have to explain everything to Dumbledore. This is gonna be good! *iz grinning*Beth

Yeah, I know, it could have been a very short story if she hadn't stopped by... ;) Chapter 3 coming up soon!
Thank you so much for a great update, I am so happy Hermione finally snapped. Not that I want her to loose or anything, but because she has bendt over backwards way to many times, taken to much crap through the years, especially in Snapes classroom. It is about time Severus Snape gets a reality check and face the fact that there is a limit for even the most reasonable and placid person (read Hermione) before he has to face the consequences of his insults, blatant bad job as a teacher (and to be honest, no teacher would or should have a job with the behaviour he has shown through the years, spy or no spy). Nope, for a man so grown into the idea that he has the right and the allowance to behave like he want (a creep at times) it is about time that some of the students loudly tells him that enough is enough. I hope from the bottom of my heart that you don't take all wind out of Hermiones sails in the next chapter!!!

I totally agree! Don't worry, she won't back down anytime soon ... ;)
That's our Severus, hex first and ask questions latter, maybe Minerva can sort things out.

That's him alright! Yeah, she'll give it a try at least ... ;)
OMG! No way have I read this before. I would have remembered this twist in the story. You totally got me! I never saw that coming. Dude. How will this be fixed?
How lucky is Hermione!!!!! Damn! Angst must look good on that girl to our lonely potions master. Who else would he match? She is the only woman he knows who can match his intellect. I think I may have read this before. If I did, I don't remember the ending. However, as Hermione is not acting according to her normal maturely intelligent self, I have a feeling she is going to mess this up and miss the chance of being with Severus and go off to France just to prove she's her own woman. I hope I'm wrong. While she is more mature and much more intelligent than her contemporaries, she is still too immature for Severus Snape at this point, in my humble opinion. She's got too much of that young adult entitlement and "I'm smarter than" ...all the real adults and "No one is going to tell me what to do", thing going right now. I remember that feeling of adrenalin doing things just for the hell of it, even though you knew you really weren't supposed to. It's a thrilling feeling unless you make stupid decisions that change the rest of your life while you were in your rebel without a cause mode. I should go check the reviews to see if I've reveiwed this story before. Cheers!
Courtship by mail. How sweet! He must be seriously interested to continue with these insulting letters. Or he is bored out of his mind. I'm going with interested.
Awwww, he is impressed in spite of himself. Our angsty Hermione is really on one. If Minerva had heard her she would be in trouble for being disrespectful to a professor. Let's see how it goes.
Hmmmmmm. He isn't impressed with her, yet. Maybe he just needs more time to think about it. At least he understands that she wasn't trying to trick him, now.
I loved Hermione pulling her wand on Severus! To be underestimated is the ultimate insult for a witch like Hermione. I'll bet this actually raised his estimation of her. Or, ...he can't believe she would be stupid enough to offer to duel with Severus Snape. He'll feel sorry when he finds out she wasn't playing a joke on him so I guess this was a good thing, even though it wasn't OK behavior. But Severus isn't acting appropriately 90% of the time. Christopher sounds very muggle.
