Snape is in a bad place following the war. Hermione wants to help. Can they find enough in common to become friends, maybe more?

Reviews for The Leather-Bound Promise
<scratches head> I'm not sure how I missed more chapters of this story. I was reading steadily along and then I wasn't. Hmm, I haven't been reading as much so I guess that's it.Anyhoo, I can hear Snape's laughter echoing in my head at her proposal. Hopefully for her, it's just in my head.I think you've written Snape very well. And Hermione has certainly matured if she didn't fall out immediately from seeing Snape in something other than black.

TPP posts kind of slow... but that's because they want to make certain everything is perfect in the editing process. Maybe that's how you missed the chapters? No matter, welcome back! I'm glad you are reading and reviewing. Thank you, Helena

Believe me I truly appreciate TPP makes sure things are well edited. It is why it is my favorite fanfic site. I tend to review more on this site as well, hoping to show my appreciation to the authors for 'going the extra mile'.

I love seeing the difference growing up in such different houses made on these two characters. you almost wonder how Snape would have turned out, raised in a home like Hermione's.

Thank you! IRL it often breaks my heart when I think about how different children in dysfunctional homes could turn out differently if raised in another setting. *le sads*. But Snape and Granger are so much alike, despite their childhoods. Thanks for reviewing! Helena

Thank goodness! When I began to read this chapter I thought "this is going to end badly," but it has ended beautifully!!! Thank you so much for this gentle and tender scene. I'm very glad Hermione was persuaded to let Severus see what had happened to her, and that Mr Shakespeare's timely sonnet had opened Severus' eyes and heart to the possiblilties of his own future happiness.I adore this story. Beth

You are most welcome! I am a sucker for hurt/comfort and I was hoping this would be a good example of that. Thank you, Beth, for taking the time to review! Helena
I am so glad Hermione had the balls to stand up for Severus Snape, and I can't wait to see how he responds to her efforts to right the wrong that has been done him.Beth
Response from Helena Rickman (Author of The Leather-Bound Promise)
Oh, he reacts, alright. It will be a few chapters down the road, hang in there! Thanks for your review!
I loved the start of this story, Hermione with a cause is the kind of Hermione I love: Strong, reciliant, her eyes set on fair and justice, willing to make the walk and the talk to honor what she thinks need changing. Excellent start, I am very much looking forward to read more.
Response from Helena Rickman (Author of The Leather-Bound Promise)
Thank you! That's the kind of Hermione I like as well, and she is a go-getter! Keep reading. I appreciate your review.
Hermione's new cause!? hasn't the man suffered enough? I hope he is well hidden, then again no matter where he is she will find him, and help him.
Response from Helena Rickman (Author of The Leather-Bound Promise)
In this story our man is a glutton for punishment! Keep reading and thank you for reviewing!
OMG this line killed me: "Before she could take flight, his heavy step squashed her into the cobblestone street, and Rita Skeeter was heard from no more." I still laughing so hard I can hardly breathe! I've often wondered why more people in FF haven't dispatched Rita Skeeter the exact same way - seems like an easy (and fitting) solution to the multitude of problems she always seems to cause. Keep up the great work and can't wait to see what happens next! :-)

I had a lot of fun writing that. I never felt she received her proper reward. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for letting me know! Helena

Hah - I think someone should run her through a muggle Bug zapper one of these days. ;-)
Oh no, Hermione with the bit in her teeth. Hope Severus know what's in store for him. Where is he anyway?
Response from Helena Rickman (Author of The Leather-Bound Promise)
Yep, Hermione can't sit still when injustice rears its ugly head! Don't worry, Severus makes his presence known in Chapter 4. This story is a slow burn - it will take a few more chapters before they meet, then another few as the dance begins between the two. Please stick with the story. It takes a while for chapters to post on this site, but they are coming!I so glad you read and reviewed.
Harry's acceptance speech on behalf of Severus Snape, sadly, went pretty much how I would've expected.
The magical world is exceedingly stubborn and minds that eagerly devour scandalous rumours and tawdry innuendo seem to firmly close shut when presented with an assertion that they might have, in fact, seriously misjudged a person or situation.
A very intriguing start, I look forward to reading more.

Thank you! Other chapters are in the queue, lets see how quick the administrators can review and post them. I appreciate your reading and reviewing.
This is a great beginning! I love the childhood parallels they shared, and yet we know that the differences would be the making of each of them. I'm really looking forward to seeing where you take this story, and I've added it to my favorites list so I'll know when you update.Beth
Response from Helena Rickman (Author of The Leather-Bound Promise)
I'm very happy you are enjoying it! I plan on highlighting many more parallels in future chapters, as well as those differences. Kind of the Like draws Like as well as Opposites attract themes. I have more chapters qeued up for beta work, so I should be updating soon. Thanks for your review!
Interesting beginning, interesting parallel childhoods. Interesting that one childhood was filled with love and opportunity and the other was filled with loathing and depravity. Like your story and looking forward to the direction you'll take this.
Response from Helena Rickman (Author of The Leather-Bound Promise)
Thank you very much! More to come soon.
interesting to see the parallels, and differences between the two of them.

When is the next chapter coming up? 😊 Thanks for sharing this lovely story.
Response from Helena Rickman (Author of The Leather-Bound Promise)
Hopefully not too long - it's usually about a month in queue until the admins work their way to it. A few more chapters to go! I'm glad you are enjoying the story, and thanks for letting me know! Helena
I have often thought that sonnet 29 fit Severus to a tee. I'm a little worried about what that man has in his mind now.
Response from Helena Rickman (Author of The Leather-Bound Promise)
You know what's crazy? I had purchased a book of love poetry and did exactly as described in the story. Flipped open to the page, the sonnet was there, and I thought Eureka! Don't worry. This wouldn't be a romance it they don't eventually get to romance. Thanks for reviewing! Helena
“Hermione, I’m sorry. I find that I cannot continue with your plan.” WTF? I hope that Severus isn't planning to scuttle this budding realationship by doing something stupid. Please let him say only that he wants to change it from a "business relationship" to one of a more personal nature.I totally love this story!Beth
Response from Helena Rickman (Author of The Leather-Bound Promise)
Cliffhangers - they are tough! Beth, I am so happy you are loving this story! Who knows what their future holds? Well, the story is Romance so maybe you will get your wish. Thanks for letting me know you are enjoying it! Helena
Before she could take flight, his heavy step squashed her into the cobblestone street, and Rita Skeeter was heard from no more.LOL! What a well deserved ending for a very annoying insect! Dare I hope that Rita's squashed carcass might have been washed into the sewers on a stream of the drunk's wee?Well done!Beth
Response from Helena Rickman (Author of The Leather-Bound Promise)
Thank you, Beth! And you MAY dare hope just that because that's where her squashed carcass went! She's such a roach I didn't want to waste any energy typing that - she didn't deserve it!
I LOVE it!!! it is so rare to see dear Rita get what she deserves, it's poetic justice, crushed under a drunks boot, and washed into the gutter where she belongs. So sad that Severus has had so little friendship in his life, now that Hermione has offered her hand in friendship, I hope he takes it.
Response from Helena Rickman (Author of The Leather-Bound Promise)
Thank you! One of the things I was striv8ng for with her demise was an antithesis of her life. So much ego and now nobody even knows thar she is dead.

Thank you! I hope he does as well. I'm glad my Rita death has been enjoyed by everyone thus far. Writers should have killed her off long ago.
I hope this means more chapters will be coming soon.

You betcha!
