What is the greatest sacrifice one can give? The final pairings of Remus and Nagini, and Severus against Sirius, in the Dark Arts competition for the Young Wizards Merit Award during their sixth year, gets out of hand. Unexpectedly, from this one event, their lives become intertwined, changed forever. Nagini, the main female character, is actually a precursor to Voldemort's serpent, Nagini.

Of course she is a chocolate-frog girl! Aw Remus is such a sweety (I actually didn't intend for that to be a pun, it was honestly unintenional) You explored his battle with control and the mastery of his wolfish urges really well. There must be an animal instinct for violence and sex lurking beneath that mild-mannered, reserved facade. Trust Sirius to be the one to introduce him to the delights of Knockturn Alley.Your attention to those little details really enriches the reading experience and tugs the reader right into the story. It's such a treat to read. And I love the way the two of them view the outcome of the award from the point of view of a Slytherin and a Gryffindor. But it looks like trouble is on the horizon in the shape of Rudolphus Lestrange. Uh oh! This doesn't bode well. I wonder who she will Polyjuice into?

, thank you so much for your very kind, very generous feedback... I really, really appreciate, as you've touched on the main things I was going for in this milder, 'fluffy' chapter - not the most 'dynamic' but I needed to have them have some 'lighter' moments and a little bit more exposition background before moving on.Thank you for the comment about the little details - that they're helpful for the reader as I'm not always sure... they're intended to be built upon, and the reason for them even being mentioned later on (don't worry - NO Sirius harem scenes! I promise! Really! Even I don't have the stomach for that! LOL) Again, thank you for your precious time & thoughts!
Ooh! getting very intriguing. The ring must be of some significance. I loved the dialogue between Nagini and Lupin, she really seems like she could use a sensitive and caring friend right now after a lifetime of pureblood hell. I love the way you are portraying Sirius; I'm afraid that is exactly how i see him. Glad Sev's hexes hit home!
Response from nagandsev (Author of The Twists of Fate)
Thank you for all of your detailed reviews! She can definitely use an 'objective' friend, though she may not be used to it, and definitely surprised by Lupin. Glad Sirius is coming across; he's always struck me as a pampered, indulged arrogant little s**t - especially in the Maurauder era; I'm also glad Sev left him with something to remember him by (sorry I had to vent a bit). Thanks, again!
I too have to agree with Ms Castus when she describes Lupin as a strange mix of noble and cowardly. Your explanation of why he has a problem standing up to his close friends is something I had never considered, but I think you are probably right. I was relieved that Dumbledore was present during this rather violent DADA class - imagine thecarnage if he hadn't been there. Mind you, I do think he shows signs, both here and in canon of total lack of responsibility when it comes to health and safety.Great chapter. looking forward to the next.

Thank you for the review! Yes, Lupin is such an odd mixture of noble and cowardly; his socialisation/development in the wizarding world, along with his furry 'condition', has always bothered me. Regarding Dumbledore... as we all know, he usually has his own motives for ignoring things when it's for some particular idea/interest he has, known only to him. Thanks, again!
I can really imagine it being this intense between Sirius and Severus at school. The chapter in OOTP which shows barely suppressed loathing between the two of them really suggest it. If they can be that badly behaved as adults then one can only imagine what it must have been like as adolescents. Nagini is an intriguing character, I'm looking forward to finding out more about her. Very enjoyable and well-written first chapter. I have no idea where it is going, and that can only be a good thing.

Thank you so much for reading and leaving a review! Glad the tension between Severus and Sirius is coming across, the atmosphere between the houses enough. I also felt that there must have been a multitude of mutual attacks between them, that always kept that compulsive urge to hex each other, viciously, ongoing. Again, thank you!
looking forward to learn how she can be a precursor to a snake.
Response from nagandsev (Author of The Twists of Fate)
Thank you so much for reading and leaving a review! Knowing the Slytherins, as we do, too much dabbling in the Dark Arts may not be a good thing. Thanks again!
oh dear, what an awfull childhood. And Lucius Malfoy, evil bastard. It is a good thing she is good with defense, maybe she can handle him when prepared. And what was that with Lupin, the ring? protecting her from werewolves? looking forward to following this epic
Response from nagandsev (Author of The Twists of Fate)
Thank you for your detailed review! Glad that the tone is coming across, helping to set future scenes; the ring will be explored more so, as well as Lupin. Thanks again!
that was an intense class. Strange they allow so dangerous hexes to fly. Looking forward to see what will come out of this.

Thank you for the review! Prof Merrythought didn't realise the depth of their abilities, and Dumbledore will have his own reasons for allowing them to go as far as they can, display their abilities; he always has his eye out for noting 'talent' for his own reasons. Thank you!
Oh dear, I sense Professor Merrythought is going to end up on probation! It's interesting that Lupin was the one to lower himself to underhand tactics... His behaviour always struck me as a strange mixture of noble and cowardly. This story is an interesting take on the Marauder era, and your dialogue is punchy and very much in-character. Looking forward to reading more!
Response from nagandsev (Author of The Twists of Fate)
Thank you for the review! Absoutely agree about the strange mixture of noble and cowardly; also, he does become an Auror, live among fellow werewolves and capable/qualified of teaching very effectively the Dark Arts - somewhere along the lines of 'it takes one to know one' - he knows and understands the other side well enough, their tactics, in order to combat them, and is capable of the same himself from forced experiences; it's his close friends he has a problem standing up to; it's easier for him to detach himself and attack someone who doesn' t have the same meaning to him... yeah, underhandedly, absolutely. Thanks, again!
Galatea Merrythought is one maverick teacher, and the exact opposite of another notable female Dark Arts professor who wouldn't even let the students use magic... I dread to think what will become of the semi-finalists! There might be a need for a syllabus review after this episode is over!
Response from nagandsev (Author of The Twists of Fate)
Thank you so much for making the time & dropping by, and leaving a review! A hands-on, practical approach/experience in DADA just seemed to have existed at one time to me, moreso in the Maurauder generation, since a lot of 'creative' new spells happened during Sev's years as a student. Thanks again!
Oh my Goddess. Nag rips my heart apart, again!

, thank you so much for reading, especially with your precious free time, truly appreciate it!
As in the previous chapter, the characters are making plans that require trust, but trust is hard to come by in this time of high stakes with loyalties divided between friends, family, lovers, and social causes. Not to mention the plans involve deception with one's allies wondering if the deception is real or imaginary. The story eschews any sentimental ending. The deepest deception is Remus believing he can save some one who believes herself cursed. The thing most true, the love between Nagini and Remus, is the one thing that is lost. Enough flickers inside Nagini to save Remus and Sirius, but not enough to let herself be rescued. The story ends with her living out her existence until her torment is ended.

Thank you so very much for reading this tale and for all of your feedback--I truly, deeply appreciate it! It was an exploration and idea so long ago when I clumsily, blindly started this to have the ending be somewhat canon compliant, and exploring these two particular canon characters, etc. Again, I can't thank you enough for reading & the reviews, it helped fuel my Muse on to the finish line, which I'll always be eternally grateful for--thank you and all the best!
Response from Fairfield (Reviewer)
On a personal note, I read and reread the chapter, and even while writing the review, I wondered if I had read it correctly: a realistic and courageous tale of a life destroyed. I even worried that a review might deter others from reading this excellent portrayal of the Maurader Era. And thank you for the kind words.
Riddle dare not let Nagini accept help from anyone. His colleagues cannot allow Remus to become attached to Nagini. Remus has his doubts about Sirius. It is a civil conflict of great intensity. Friends and family are killing each other and being killed. It is important to know who can be trusted. It is tempting to dismiss Nagini's feeling of doom as over dramatic, but there is no Chosen One receiving helpful gifts from mysterious benefactors, only ordinary mortals facing peril - a stark, adult tale. One might ask what Dumbledore hopes to gain by keeping Nagini in harm's way. The characters are true to canon. An intense erotic scene. And thank you for the kind words.
Response from nagandsev (Author of The Twists of Fate)
Thank you for continuing to read and the supportive feedback, truly appreciate it! Yes, there is no Chosen One yet entering the story, solving the problem of the Dark Lord--wanted to explore the time earlier than this--before this happened when others weren't quite sure or aware of the level of Riddle's power and depths of dark arts, confusion in the air, etc.Perhaps Dumbledore has a hunch that where Nagini goes, so shall Riddle be near--the hunt is on, and she is a means to help snare the prey from his point of view, all for the greater good in situations like this, etc. More specifics about this in the next chapter.Thank you again for reading, affirming what is coming across; again, I truly appreciate your time and feedback given!
What a twist! Please say they both make it through this!
Response from nagandsev (Author of The Twists of Fate)
Thank you for the concern--they'll both survive it in their own ways... that's all the flighty Muse has grudgingly shared Thanks again!

What an evil cliffhanger on which to end such a lovely, lemony chapter!

Thank you for the lovely response! Yes, it took them soooo long to get to this point, only to have an evil cliffy await them--hehe! Seriously, thanks again for continuing to read & review--know it's a rare pair and truly appreciate it!

Hmm, just what is Lestrange doing in Hogsmeade? Nagini's half transformation into Lily was brilliant - no wonder Snape reacted the way he did.
Response from nagandsev (Author of The Twists of Fate)
Yeah, poor Severus... Lily would be quite fresh on his mind, anything and everything reminding him of her *sigh* ... and also wanted him to maybe understand on some level how Nagini was attracted to someone beyond her control and the mutual feeling that that is... Lestrange *ugh*... Thank you so much for the lovely, detailed feedback!

I love this allusion to the fact that Pettigrew is a competent brewer - which he must have been to restore Voldemort. I love little details like that!
Response from nagandsev (Author of The Twists of Fate)
I so appreciate that you noted the importance of that detail *squee* Pettigrew absolutely must have been competent at some things, secretively so or such... to have done what he did--restoring Voldemort was an incredible feat--thank you so much for reading and the feedback!xxx

Poor Nagini! Your Lucius is coldly terrifying - just as he should be!
Response from nagandsev (Author of The Twists of Fate)
Yes... I always felt that Lucius didn't end up being Voldy's lieutenant solely on his 'charms' *sighing* Thank you for affirming that he's coming across as intended!

Yeah, Merrythought isn't even going to need the DADA curse to end her career - she's doing an amazing job of it herself!

Severus vs Sirius? I can only see that ending badly. The idea that Nagini was once a girl... so intrigued!
Response from nagandsev (Author of The Twists of Fate)
Thank you so much for the read and encouraging feedback--truly appreciate it! I agree, both Severus and Sirius duelling--something that should have been avoided at any cost! Yeah... I had this idea about Nagini and it just wouldn't go away--needed to get it out of my system--thank Merlin for fanfiction!xxx Thanks again!

What a situation to be in, and Malfoy has all the power!
Response from nagandsev (Author of The Twists of Fate)
Lulu does thrive on power, doesn't he? *sighing* And Remus was too easy and available a target to frame by Malfoy and his circle; poor dear, Lupin just doesn't get many breaks in his life, if only he and Nagini could have been left alone in peace... Sunny33, thank you so much for reading and the feedback--deeply appreciate it!xx
