Hermione wakes up in a cell, held captive by none other than her former professor, Severus Snape. She’s scared, alone, and confused about her feelings for her unwilling captor. How can she know what is real and what isn’t when he won’t tell her anything?

Due to the often controversial nature of my fics, I've decided I will no longer be posting here (this not NOT include my WIPs--Princes in Exile and Caged Bird Sings will continue to be updated here. This is regarding only my oneshots and future long fics). You can find all my stories at my Livejournal, under the name literaryspell. None of the fics are, as yet, friendslocked, so you can read at your leisure, and friend me, or not, as you like. :D Be sure to check out my master list, which is the first post on my LJ page. Thank you!
If anyone would prefer to send comments to me personally, or would just like to talk plot or make suggestions, please contact me at literaryspell@live.com. I'm happy to hear from anyone!

He seems to have relaxed a little around her, allowing spells and tending to her wounds. :)
Hmm... a rather disturbing turn of events, I have to say. Not that I didn't expect something like this happening eventually (the warnings made it pretty likely), but just not this early in the proceedings. I agree with what one other reviewer stated that Hermione would not be acting this way with any other DE; it is just that she knows (or thinks she knows) and trusts Snape to a certain degree. However, her feelings of confusion and not feeling real unless Snape is present to acknowledge her existence ring true for her situation. Surprisingly, Snape appears to have similar feelings, at least that is how it comes across with all the time he spends with her and how he too, is physically affected by her. They both seem to be coming unravelled, don't they? ;-) I am glad to see a hint of Snape's honour in the way he contradicts her by insisting that what he has done to her is horrible, and in his sense of self-loathing at the fact that he is attracted to his prisoner. Also intrigued by how he views his role as a spy.

Totally agree that it is only Snape who could make Hermione react this way. Part of her reasoning is because she does feel safe with him--and her confusion comes from the fact that her brain is telling her she shouldn't. Very interesting how the body reacts to fear, and how the mind deals with it.
Wowza girl, that was totally unexpected! Well, I actually expected something like this, but I thought it would be much more subtle and drawn out. This worked quite well for me though. I will say that if it were a random Death Eater or someone other than Snape, her behaviour would not work for me. She is desperate for attention after being by herself so much, and truly wanting to feel something... anything at all. But it takes a measure of trust to act as she is, and with Snape, even though there are some unknowns about why she is there, she knew him as an authority figure at Hogwarts and in the Order of the Phoenix and whether it is misplaced or not, that trust is there. So it works. And the end, where he says that what he is is worse than a real Death Eater, was thought provoking. I don't know if I think that it makes him worse or not. It definitely makes him human. I love the dynamic you are building between these two, but what their relationship will become is still so ambiguous. Anxious for more! And by the way, for your next story, you should post every Monday. It would make getting out of bed in the morning a whole lot easier :)

LOL Subtle and drawn out, eh? Well, I'm actually not one for UST. I like to get the good stuff going early. After all, the drama isn't all about sex--that's just part of their huge pile of problems. :DYou're absolutely right that she would only react this way to Snape. She trusts him, whether she really realises it or not. She let her guard down and can't really get it back up. And I already have a story posting on Mondays! It's slash, though. :D Harry/Draco. And I have my original fic posting on Thursdays. Posting is hard work! I need a secretary. LOL
You're really capturing something here. I can't it express better than that. I'm soooooo curious!
Response from LiteraryBeauty (Author of Caged Bird Sings)
Thank you so much for this lovely comment. I'm so glad you feel that way.
So it's actually Snape's house, that explains a few things then. But moreover if Voldy knows he has Hermione does the Order? No wonder he was angry with himself for reacting in front of her - brilliant job on her part to illicit such a response from him!Looking forward to seeing what happens next!
Response from LiteraryBeauty (Author of Caged Bird Sings)
About the Order, that's not something we find out for some time. And she's really starting to learn how to push his buttons, isn't she? Buttons he probably didn't even realise he had. :D
Wow that was quite a surprise, I am torn as to the turn this story has taken. All innocence is lost now. It was sweet before now its taken on a whole new level. Looking forward to more, I think. Excellent writitng.
Response from LiteraryBeauty (Author of Caged Bird Sings)
True about the innocence--but that's a luxary that those in war can't really afford, isn't it? Thank you so much for the thoughtful comment. :D

Thank you--yes, I know the story feels a little hopeless at this point, but there is so much left to say--for both of them.
This story has me hooked!! Can't wait for more x

Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy it. :D
Hello, mortification! My name is Hermione Granger!
Response from LiteraryBeauty (Author of Caged Bird Sings)
No kidding, eh? Yikes! :D
Another great chapter! I love the analogy of the bird pendant. I can't quite figure out what is going on here. It would seem to me (and I am quite hopeful of) that she has been captured, and given to Snape to keep as prisoner. He has to keep up appearances in case he has visitors, or in case voldemort were to look into her mind, or incase she doesn't play nice and really tries to escape. But given that he is Dumbledore's man, he only has it in him to treat her badly to a certain degree. On the other hand, things could be not what they seem, and he has her there for other reasons. I'm trying not to think that is a possibility.I think the line, "eventually I’ll be free. When Snape is." sums up exactly how I hope this works out.I will be interested to see how their "relationship" develops in the coming days. And in the end... I wonder what he thinks of her activities... and what he'll do about it?

Thank you! I love the way you're working through what's happening. I don't want to give anything away, but your mind works like Hermione's, so I'm sure you'll get there when she does. :DThanks for the thoughtful comment. Answers and more questions coming up next week! :D
This is unfolding beautifully. Great writing!
Response from LiteraryBeauty (Author of Caged Bird Sings)
Thank you very much!
This is an exceptional, intelligent story and so very different (thank heaven!) You have got me eagerly waiting for Tuesday eve/Wednesday morning when I know there will be updates in much the same way as Hermione waits for Snape's visits each time!Just out of interest, is the story already complete before you're posting? I'm assuming it is as you've listed the chapter numbers out of 17 ... :-)
Response from LiteraryBeauty (Author of Caged Bird Sings)
Thank you so much! I'm really glad you're enjoying it. :D The story is finished but I'm still working on it. I try to finish things before I post because I tend to get overwhelmed otherwise.
Response from Sevvy (Reviewer)
That was the answer I was rather hoping for! I'm going to be blatantly honest here & ask you if you have the completed story (even if not perfected) posted elsewhere - e.g. a livejournal or similar? (Please feel free to contact me directly via my Profile page if you'd rather not answer that question here.) Either way, I will then explain in a bit more detail why I'm asking this. Many thanks!
Good chapter. Interesting how he's doing more and more to make her comfortable but to what end?Looking forward to seeing what happens next!
Response from LiteraryBeauty (Author of Caged Bird Sings)
Thank you! Yes, Hermione has to be a little suspicious--he's not exactly known for his kindness. :D
Oh my, LOL I'm anxious to read more. That was a very good chapter. I do believe Severus is becoming quite fond of his caged bird.
Response from LiteraryBeauty (Author of Caged Bird Sings)
Thank you so much--yes, Snape likes his little pet. :D
OK. I think I'm obsessed with this story. lol. Great work so far. :) Can't wait for more chapters!
Response from LiteraryBeauty (Author of Caged Bird Sings)
Obsessed is good! :D Thank you!
I can see how her mind is already drifitng to madness. At this stage I just hope Snape has good motives.
Response from LiteraryBeauty (Author of Caged Bird Sings)
There is definitely potential for damage there. As for Snape... we'll have to wait and see. :D
Wow well written tough subject. I usually don't read stuff like this. Thisones very interesting, good chapter.
Response from LiteraryBeauty (Author of Caged Bird Sings)
Thank you for giving it a chance! I really hope you continue to enjoy it. :D
Intreguing (sp) beginning. I look forward to more.
Response from LiteraryBeauty (Author of Caged Bird Sings)
Thank you very much!
Beautifully written. This is truly canon!Hermione, in my humble opinion. She's rational (she understands exactly *why* she's feeling horny for him, the needing of human contact) and she gets very emotional when she can no longer control the situation. Snape in this fic is as close to canon!Snape as you can get (not *Professor* Snape, but the private Severus such as the glimpses we see in the memories of his interactions with Albus). Fantastic story so far. Looking forward to more!
Response from LiteraryBeauty (Author of Caged Bird Sings)
Thank you so much! This is such a lovely compliment. I try really, really hard to keep the characters canon, so I really appreciate it. :D
That was heart-breaking. She longs to please him because he is all she has...I don't know much about Stockholm Syndrom. This is sad but interesting. I wonder how far he will go to see to her needs.
Response from LiteraryBeauty (Author of Caged Bird Sings)
Thank you so much. I hope you continue to enjoy the story!
Um... how many more days until Tuesday? I am terribly impatient. This story is really good. I'm wondering whether this will involve others, or if the whole thing is between the two of them. You've written them well, so that I feel as if they are both victims in their own way. Is he just keeping her there for now, because Voldemort doesn't know how to best use her yet? Or is she there to be abused by him, but he is just creating tales of torture to keep Voldemort happy? If so, surely there will come a time where he will want to at least see a memory or something. Or was he really the one to take her in an attempt to keep her safe? Gah, so many possibilities. But don't mind me... I'm just thinking out loud. Looking forward to more.
Response from LiteraryBeauty (Author of Caged Bird Sings)
The majority of the story does take place in the same setting with just the two of them, but there are others involved. As for why he's keeping her, that's something we won't know until she does, and she won't until he deigns to tell her. Sorry to have to keep you in the dark. :D
Interesting? I am full of questions, and so very curious about the next chapter. That's a very promisisng first chapter.

love it.....and that last sentence....
