Hermione wakes up in a cell, held captive by none other than her former professor, Severus Snape. She’s scared, alone, and confused about her feelings for her unwilling captor. How can she know what is real and what isn’t when he won’t tell her anything?

Due to the often controversial nature of my fics, I've decided I will no longer be posting here (this not NOT include my WIPs--Princes in Exile and Caged Bird Sings will continue to be updated here. This is regarding only my oneshots and future long fics). You can find all my stories at my Livejournal, under the name literaryspell. None of the fics are, as yet, friendslocked, so you can read at your leisure, and friend me, or not, as you like. :D Be sure to check out my master list, which is the first post on my LJ page. Thank you!
If anyone would prefer to send comments to me personally, or would just like to talk plot or make suggestions, please contact me at literaryspell@live.com. I'm happy to hear from anyone!
Reviews for Caged Bird Sings
Hi, first of all, I want to thank you for such a wild ride. I enjoyed this work so much, not just because of the story but your writing style. You are indeed a very talented story teller. The fact that my heartbeat would jump a little everytime I saw the updated chapter is testament enough to that.
Having said all this, I will confess to a little disappointment for your Epilogue. I know you didn't want anything to 'well tied up', but it would have been nice to understand SS's decision on why he came back. after the richness of each chapter and the depth to which we came to understand their motives, it just would have been nice for him to show up a little sooner than the penultimate sentence.
Having said all this, thank you for a great story. It would make a great film!

First let me say that I am pleased that you did not dwell on the final battle. It is just simply not what this story is about. Hermione does need to get away for awhile in order to find herself and get some perspective on things. And really, Snape needs some time to himself as well. There is no doubt that he needs to heal physically, psychologically, emotionally, socially... am I leaving anything out here? So yes, leaving is a splendid idea, but I think doing it without saying goodbye was probably a bad choice. What happened to no more running? I am sure it goes without saying, but this is still beautifully done, and I am as anxious as ever to see what comes next. I want the happy ending, but only if it can be done in a realistic way, with them with a healthy relationship. Whatever happens, I have no doubt it will be perfect!

The last chapter was mostly a 'point A to point B' sort of thing. I definitely didn't want to spend too much time on the battle--we've all read that about a thousand different ways. I'm glad you agree. :DI don't think Hermione saw it as running, really. More like... she thought she was doing what he would want--and what was right for her. She does need time--time without the memory of a sorrowful parting blinding her. At least, that's what she thinks.Thank you so much for all your thoughtful reviews. I'm so glad you like the story. I really hope you enjoy the next two chapters. The weight of the fic really rests on them, so I'm a little apprehensive. :D
She's not allowed to be gone a long time! I won't let her!
yes, i can see where she'd need some distance to put things into persective. superb update. thanks and mucho mega smoochies
Oh no! He will be heartbroken when he wakes up to find her gone. What will he do? I hope he tracks her down, but knowing him, he will probably give her some space and let her come back on her own.
This was such an intense chapter. I couldn't read it fast enough! I'm so glad she found a way out. Now the hard part will be in trying to convince the boys that he is worth saving. At least he didn't have the chance to Obliviate her.
Great chapter.
They both need some time to reflect on what has happened. It's a good thing. :)
Hermione's conflicting emotions after her release and saving Snape are to be expected. There can be no easy fix and, possibly, no happy ever after, unless they both come to terms with the situation they were in. Thanks for another interesting chapter.
I relaly hate that she leaves him at this time. What will he think when he wakes again is he remembers this all. Really loved this story.
I know you've probably finished writing this story and I'm hoping for a happy end,but this chapter made me feel a little insecure about it.Anyway, I won't lose hope:) this story is great.congrats:)
Response from LiteraryBeauty (Author of Caged Bird Sings)
The story is finished, yes. :D I know this chapter might make people nervous, but do trust me. :D
Really,I read fanfiction for a very long time now, mostly hg/ss,and every now and then I find a masterpiece and yours is bloody well one of those!!!!Can hardly await a new chapter.Thank you!
stand by, here she comes! great story, great update. thanks and smoochies
I'm wondering if Severus had in fact left Hermione that way out, knowing she'd figure it out. Perhaps it was something he put in place in case he needed help. Hopefully he des need help, or else he's going to be royally pissed that Hermione escaped. Perhaps he left with Harry, and the arguing was about what to do with Hermione.
OMG! I can't believe she's escaped! That girl is really full of ressources. I do hope Snape isn't in a too bad situation.
Holy fricking crap, Batman! I hope to hell she knows what she's doing or he could be in even deeper crap than before!
Well that was unexpected! I am thoroughly worn out on Hermione's behalf after all of that running around and destructive behavior. It was so good to see a spark back in her, and it took no time for her to transition back into clear headed, problem solving mode.
It must feel amazing to finally see the light of day (or night) after all of this time. Not to mention that she is actively taking a role in shaping her future after being at someone else's mercy for so long. But I worry on so many levels: Will the Knight Bus actually be able to pick her up whereever she is at? If she does make it to Grimmauld Place, is it still in the Order's possession? Will anyone on Hermione's side believe her, and be willing to risk a rescue mission to save Snape? Where is Snape, and will he be worse off if anyone finds out that his prisoner has escaped? So many questions...
I absolutely loved the last line of this chapter, and it makes me even more excited than usual for the upcoming chapter ( as if that were possible!) Yay to you for feeding my obsession so brilliantly!
WOW. Just - WOW. Can't wait for the next installment . . .
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!!!!! I love her sheer determination! And I love how she sees a glimpse of Draco's (potentially?) true loyalties.
Wahoo, our Hermione has her dander up now. Someone is going to be in big tropuble.:)
oh - what a good chapter. i loved your descriptions and Hermione'e spirit here.
thanks for all your time and effort
Escaping without a wand puts her at risk. And what has happened to Snape? The tension is mounting nicely.
Hi. Don't know if you are aware but it looks like ch 13 posted again as ch 14. Looking forward to reading more.

It doesn't seem to matter HOW many chapters I post on HOW many sites--every week I mess something up! Thank you SO much for bringing this to my attention. The correct chapter is now up! I hope you enjoy it. :D

I definitely enjoyed it! Hermione certainly proved Severus wrong about getting out of the house. Can't wait to see where she goes.
I am so excited for the next chapter!! And let me just say that you write beautifully, i'm not usually one for fan fiction but wow, you really portray these characters perfectly!
absolutely facinating. i'm really tied into seeing how this will end. thanks and smoochies
The scene was a testament to her braveness and brilliance! I do hope it saves Severus! I would feel so badly if she had to be obliviated. I know Severus thinks that's the 'right and proper' thing to do, but it's not so clear cut, is it? Well, I'm holding out hope!
