Trust Luna to marry someone who doesn't exist.
Author's Notes: The Thin Man was written for bethbethbeth during the Snuna Exchange on Livejournal. Her prompt was: Everybody's intrigued when The Quibbler announces the marriage of Associate Editor Luna Lovegood to naturalist "Rolf Scamander," especially when they remember Newt Scamander and his wife Porpentina never had children or grandchildren.
Many thanks to the wonderful Melusin for the invaluable help as beta and Britpicker. This is a slightly extended version; any remaining errors are entirely my own.

Reviews for The Thin Man
How delightfully wonderful! I do like the smell of honeysuckle and peppermint- unusual, perhaps a bit odd, but overall pleasing and fresh. Good combination for her.
Response from duniazade (Author of The Thin Man)
Thank you! I'm so glad you're enjoying this story.
Ha! I like the Mathoms room- recognize it as well. These Gobstones are very interesting, and I don't think I've seen their like elsewhere in the fandom. Are these your own creation, or, like Mathoms and Proudfeet, are they borrowed?
Response from duniazade (Author of The Thin Man)
Thank you for the lovely review, and fifty points to your house for recognizing the Mathoms room. But these Gobstones are mine, all mine!
every little bit you wrote has some marvelous bit of original you-ness. (that's a compliment, by the way)

Response from duniazade (Author of The Thin Man)
What a wonderful, wonderful compliment!*clutches lovely review to heart*I'm so glad you're enjoying this.
Cool unruffled Luna! I love that House-elves can reproduce vegetatively. This story is so much fun!

Response from duniazade (Author of The Thin Man)
I'm so glad you're enjoying this story. The vegetative reproduction of house-elves was fun to imagine - I always felt they were half-reptilian half-plants - must be the little green beings factor.Thank you very much!
Another astonishing chapter. Your otherworldly style seems to fit Luna perfectly.

Response from duniazade (Author of The Thin Man)
Oh, I love "otherwordly style." Thank you so much! :D
Interesting creatures. :)
Response from duniazade (Author of The Thin Man)
Not only the Runespoors, I hope? ;-)Thank you for reading and reviewing!
Hmm, a stickier problem than the last. :)
Response from duniazade (Author of The Thin Man)
A stickier problem, definitely! Thank you for, ahem... sticking with the story. ;-)
LOL. Poor Snape. "Romantic Basket Case" ROFL.
Response from duniazade (Author of The Thin Man)
Hee! Poor Snape indeed. ;-)Thank you - I'm so glad you're enjoying this.
Humph - he won't officially come back from the dead for her? However, if he would, I expect your story would be shorter, which would be A Bad Thing. I expect the real problem with getting married is that it would create a paper trail that would show that he's still alive. Wonder who would care, and why? Or is it just that he wants to be left alone? Anyway, I love it!
Response from duniazade (Author of The Thin Man)
Thank you so much for the lovely review!Severus would definitely love to be left alone. Plus, his and Luna's trafficking is barely half-legal, and he doesn't want to attract any attention.But... but he would very much like to continue living with Luna. We'll see how the two of them will manage!
Hmm...he doesn't seem to have much of an aversion to marrying Luna in and of itself, just to having be seen as Severus Snape in front of witnesses! Just how many witnesses are necessary? If it's only one, then I think it could be doable with a minimum of discomfort by inviting a single family member to the ceremony.Wonder what Luna wants to ask her godmother Porpentina?
Response from duniazade (Author of The Thin Man)
Oh, he doesn't have an aversion to marrying Luna, not at all! But he's so comfortable in his "inexistence..." Plus the trafficking through the wormholes is only half-legal at best.A single witness doesn't count, alas. There should be at least two. We'll see very soon what Luna and Porpentina are brewing together!Thank you so much for reading and reviewing.
What a lark. Absolutely brilliant! I would love to see more of this Luna and Snape (will have a look at the author's other works). The ending did feel a bit abrupt, though - but I think I see what the author was going for. 😃
Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the story.
A very fitting ending.
Response from duniazade (Author of The Thin Man)
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
A magical jurassic park, they should have stayed on the path, I hope little Lucy will be ok.
I think I will leave this chapter to Porpertina and Hermione, it went over my head.
Oh dear, I hope Hermione isn't about to put her foot in it.
Severus travels well prepared, doesn't he..
Shreks and Proudfoots and Baggins, oh my! on to the next chapter.
Like he was my patronus, splendid.Enjoyed this very much. :)
Response from duniazade (Author of The Thin Man)
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
A very fitting end - we only see them in shadow, through the eyes of others. I can't find any more superlatives for this story, one of the best ever!
Response from duniazade (Author of The Thin Man)
*blushes*Thank you so much! I'm very glad you enjoyed it to the very end. And, erm... I've posted two little Snuna drabbles, in case you'd want more of the same atmosphere: Winter Dance and Spinner's Bed.
That bird could easily be a relative of Walburga Black. I hope Luna is near by. Somehow I suspect she's able to soothe the crazy bird down.
Response from duniazade (Author of The Thin Man)
Hee! Yes, she could easily compete with dear Walburga. Don't worry, Luna is always here when Severus is in trouble. :)
I thought I had read this last year when it was posted on LJ, but somehow it's not quite what I remember.I love this house. Surely it's a bequest from one of Luna's ancestors?
Response from duniazade (Author of The Thin Man)
You're quite right, I've added about 2000 words to the original 5000. I'm so glad you're remembering the story and, even better, enjoying it the second time around! Thank you very much.
I wish Aubrey Beardsley or Edward Gorey was around to illustrate your work.
Response from duniazade (Author of The Thin Man)
Oh, this is extremely flattering. Thank you so much! :D
Response from luminosa (Reviewer)
If anyone has illustrated it, or does, please let us know! This deserves to be a picture book - I can kind of visualize it but could never do it.l Of course you would have to have be able to approve the illustrations. Your vision really deserves the word unique (so overused and misused but appropriate here as I believe RedSky has already observed). I think you could self-publish and sell if it weren't for copyright, which deprives us all of a what would be a jewel if you could find the right illustrator. Sigh.
Response from duniazade (Author of The Thin Man)
No one has illustrated it yet, but I'll certainly tell you if that ever happens! And thank you again: this is really a wonderful encouragement and... you've just given me an idea. Maybe I'll try to rewrite it as an original.

*goggles* My, WHAT AN ADVENTURE! And what a collection of animals. Lucy is extremely cute, and how happy for Ron she took so fast and thoroughly to him! And trust Hermione to know even any extinkt animal, magical or Muggle, as well as knowing what they eat, dream and aspire to be.
Author's Response: Of course Hermione knows it all. *nodsnods*
I'm so glad you're enjoying this!

It would be pretendig if I said I had understood all the arithmantic and other logical details *looks fuzzybrained*, but it makes perfect sense and is highly entertaining. Brilliant chapter! :o)))
Author's Response: Hee! Only Porpentina and Hermione can understand those high-end arithmantic theories. ;-)
Thank you so much!
