"Ah, music. A magic beyond all we do here!" Hermione had long forgotten the fateful words Dumbledore had uttered at the end of her first Welcoming Feast when they proved true beyond the shadow of a doubt.

Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
I'm so glad you like it! Thank you for your kind words!
You have a brilliant writing style and I love the way this plot line is unfolding. Please continue to update as you are able, I am anxious to see what happens with Hermione's low magic levels and how Severus adjusts to life after the war. Cheers!
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Wow, thank you! It's not every day that my writing style is called brilliant. In fact, I don't think it's ever been called that, so, thank you again!Yes, the regular updates will continue. Only two more chapters left for this. I've started working on the sequel, but it'll be a while before that's completed.
She gave her life energy to save him. I just hope that the giant and the hag can persuade the spheres to play for Hermione as well.I wonder how Snape will react towards her when she does recover. She brought him back from the brink of death. Will he treat her with the reverence she deserves? Or will he resent owing her a life debt? I hope it's the former.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
You're raising something interesting here: You said she gave her life energy to save him. I haven't thought about that in detail, but now that you've said it, I'll say not quite. She's exhausted, yes, absolutely! Considering she has no idea how to coax the music into playing and simply relies, at this moment, on the hope that the music will play when it's needed, yes, I'd imagine that to be very exhausting, especially in emotional terms. But not quite life-energy-draining. :)The next chapter will answer your question, I think.Thank you for leaving such a wonderful and thought-provoking review!
I hope she'll be okay. But what a place to recover.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
She'll be fine. *nods*And what better place than his bed to recover?
I am doing a happy dance rigth now; Severus are awake, Lucius and Narcissa are well, not to mention takes good care of Hermione. Now all you have to do is to let Hermione rest, then wake her up so we can all party together:-))
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Wow, you've totally hit the nail on the head! :D
I guess now it's Severus' turn to heal Hermione. How about a Prince Charming Kiss? *evil grin*
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Heh. My lips are sealed. :DThank you for your lovely review!
I've been enjoying this beautiful story tremendously.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
You made my day. Thank you!
Oh dear. With Severus being literally at death's door, it must have required an enormous expenditure of magic to save him. A wonderful thing, but at what cost?So now, what can be done to help restore Hermione?
*Looks down at ragged shreds of nails and sighs*
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
We'll find out shortly. :DOh, I'm sorry about the nailbiting! *casts spell to restore your nails*Thanks for your lovely review!
Whoa, that wouldn't be right if Hermione was gifted in order to save others, but not herself. Must she pay that price? Looks like she'll be staying on at the Malfoys' for a while and have to skip the Burrow for Christmas. Severus--YAY.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
*grins*Hence the title. Yes, she may end up staying at the manor for a bit. Next chapter up Friday. And thank you for making my day with all your wonderful reviews!
Nice of her to remember her old friends, but no gifts for her new friend Narcissa? But Snape's plight trumps all.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Looking back, I'm not sure myself why she didn't buy one for Narcissa. I guess it might be because it never occured to her that Narcissa might appreciate one. But I can promise all will end well.Thank you for keeping up with this fic!
YAY! for retail therapy! that's what most gals enjoy (works for me!). Fun to see them have a good time. Seems like the Malfoys still have much of their fortune, despite being social pariahs. But can Severus be saved in time???
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
I think if everyone recognised the importance of occasional retail therapy, drugmakers would go bust. Wouldn't that be grand? :DCan he? I'd say he can, if only because I don't do unhappy endings, lol.Thank you for another lovely review!
Lockhart's no fave of mine, but he has paid his dues and it's good to see him return to sanity. Hermione's mysterious giant friend -- is he like the spirits that guide Scrooge in A Christmas Carol?
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
*chuckles*I can't stand Lockhart. I hated CoS because of him. So, naturally, I had to redeem him. *opens hands* I can't help but find the best in people, RL or writing.I'm sorry I can't answer your question; I've never watched Scrooge (am not into movies). But a spirit, yes, perhaps. I prefer to think of him as a being from a different dimension who becomes physical in order to aid Hermione.
I love to read about others realizing how much Snape had been wronged by his two masters, such as the Malfoys. Nice to see that even they can grow and change their ingrained attitudes and prejudices.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
I've seen many people change their attitudes over the years, and it always makes me happy when I'm blessed to observe that. So I tried to express it in this fic, and I feel very happy now that you, a reader, has picked up on exactly that. Thank you, again, for your thoughtful and lovely review!
A question: um, is UT the same as DO? Your story keeps putting The Sound of Music and its songs in my head And our Heroine hears Severus, just like the way Jane Eyre heard Rochester's despairing cry across the miles.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
An answer: Yes. The original C was called Ut and later changed to Do. The original scale is based on St John's hymn, Ut queant laxis resonare fibris, Mira gestorum, famuli tuorum, Solve polluti, labii reatum, Sancte Iohannes. In musical terms, the melody of The Sound of Music's Do Re Mi is the same. Each syllable with the name of the note represents that note. :DOh, wow, I never thought of the similarity here with regard to rochester's cry! Thanks for pointing it out!And thank you again for yet another wonderful review!
Malfoy can still be an arrogant prat, but at least he and Narcissa aren't "Evil Incarnate" (tm) like they are in most of the fanfics I've come across. Least they've managed to make friends with Hermione.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Of course he can't completely overcome his less positive traits in a day...I've come to like the Malfoys over the years, mostly because they're human. Imperfect, arrogant in some ways, humble in others if forced. That's what being human is all about I think.Thank you for another lovely review!
celestial music and tasty food. It's a fine stew of a story simmering. . . . How to bring Hermione and her former professor together??
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
*grins*I like both music and tasty food, so it kind of wrote itself. Thanks for your lovely review!
I really like your humanizing touches on the Malfoys, such as Cissy calling her husband "Luce" and them eating at Muggle restaurants. But the best of all is that they're taking care of someone the rest of the WW thinks is dead. A certain former potions master. . . . . Plus being able to use the events of DH and disregard the stupid epilogue and write an interesting, complex story is to be envied.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Wow. Thank you for your kind words! For me, the Malfoys became 'human' once I read DH. Humiliated by the Dark Lord, then huddled together in the Great Hall, more than likely shunned by everyone around, it all made them truly human for me.There are several hints in canon that Severus likes the Malfoys and vice versa; Narcissa would not have approached him at the beginning of HBP if she didn't like him or trust him. And, oh, I guess my imagination went wild. :D
boy I wish I was in Hermione's shoes (about the Merlin stipend). Worrying about money and bills really casts a pall on life *sigh*. Great idea involving magic and the "music of the spheres". Cool; added to my reading list.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Isn't it sad how far down the drain humankind has sunk? We actually need to pay for our birth certificates... *shakes head*Thank you for the review; glad you like it so far!
Just smiling at the outcome
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
I like smiles. Thank you. :D
You know what is the next best thing to a great chapter? A speedy update. Yeah, I got both!
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Thank you so much. You absolutely made my day!
I would be frustrated if I didn't know you would update very soon. I even could be violent, but then I wouldn't have any computer to read the new chapter. On another note I wonder what new instrument will be the savior of Severus. I can't think of anything well suited enough to represent him.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
I'm glad you find the story interesting enough to wait somewhat impatiently for the next chapter!Does there have to be a new instrument? You'll find out shortly; I'm about to upload the next chapter.Thank you, as always, for your lovely review!
I love it when she sees the vision of Severus.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
*beams*This coming from the person who was the very first to see each chapter absolutely makes my day. ::squishes::
Thank goodness you update frequently or the anticipation would be overwhelming. I enjoyed the interaction between Severus and Hermione in her dream. He was approachable (heck, he should be, she's his only hope!) yet still retained the touch of snarkiness. We don't want him all sweetness and light afterall. hahahaI'll look forward to the next installment and Hermione's need to instinctively trust in herself.
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
Thank you!No, I agree. Severus all sweetness would be, uh, wrong. :D
ACK! I've read almost straight through just to find that you've left us there? You know you are a right horrid witch to leave us with this kind of ending don't you? *sigh...It seems as if music, espcially the technical side of music, is an interest of yours. I can just imagine you sitting in the back of a philharmonic session soaking up the interplay between the brass and percussion to see which would make just the right sound for a scene that you need to have written. So - what will it be for Severus' recovery? Perhaps an oboe, with it's long, mellow sound? Or perhaps a lute that flutters as his vitals grow stronger and stronger? I'll leave that part up to my imagination as I wait to see.Lovely!
Response from karelia (Author of Harmonic Resolution)
*laughs* I've never claimed to be a nice person. :DYes, music plays a great part in my life. Lucius, my Muse, insisted on almost exclusively Mozart during the writing of this fic, with occasional Sibelius and Khachaturian thrown in.I loved your pondering of how I wrote it, and you've pretty much hit the nail on the head here! Thank you!
