Mostly Harmless! Though I have to admit, I'm even stranger than I appear. ;-) There's a pile of unbeta'd stuff on my LJ (dracfic) if you're interested in Raw, Untamed, fanfic.
Believe it or not, "How Argus Filch Got Wild, Got Laid, and Got His Magic" has been rec'ed by Know It Alls! It's true! They gave me this pretty lil' ribbon and everything! And in March 2007, they saw fit to likewise reccommend (as an antidote to angst) the story that started it all, 'Courtesy of Your Fairy God-Jarvey'--just in time for the first anniversary of that story's posting! *hugs Harm*
(I also have to admit that 'mostly harmless' may not be the most apt description of a member of the Mad Chatters...)
Finally, I just have to say... Storyville. If you were there, you know what I mean.Reviews for Question of Identity
Lovely insight, Fred would never leave George, nor George, Fred.

Thank you. The first time the thought crossed my mind--all twins trade places, and these two must have been masters at it--I just felt chilled right to the none and was certain that somehow, this really is what happened.

My dad had a twin , my uncle George, {hand on heart I swear} even my mum couldn't tell them apart. After my dad died it broke your heart to look into uncle Georges eyes, he passed away less than a year after dad. Thay were a lot older than Fred & George, I don't know if that makes a big difference. Someone said to him once''you must miss him'' & uncle George said ''no, all I have to do is look in the mirror''. So you see your story touched me very deeply. Thank you very much.

I like the bit where he complains about having to make full sentences!

Oh, dear Fred/George... I think I found their spiritual brother today when we went to the cemetary to put the flowers & flags on Grandpa's grave. All the markers are flat on the ground, and all of them face the same direction in each section--until my dad noticed one marker and said, 'That guy must have been a real joker.'Reason being: his was the only marker in the whole section that was facing the opposite way, so that if you were walking through the cemetary in the usual direction, it would read upside down. His name? George.(Was it a coincidence that his last name began with a 'W'?)
I thought this was excellent - what a terrific twist! (Sad, too, though no matter which twin died, it would have to be.)

Thank you very much. This was one of those 'ideas that creep up in the odd hours of the morning' and won't let go until it's written. I ended up in the chatroom asking friends to double-check passages from DH so that I wouldn't put the lost ear on the wrong side or something!Despite this plot bunny, I firmly believe (as the LJ icon says) that "Fred Weasley is alive and well and living in Paris (annoying the French.)"
Response from lkwriter (Reviewer)
I'm glad that it wouldn't let you go until it was written. So original and refreshing, and still moving. I would like to believe that both twins are causing mischief to the nth degree, in Paris or elsewhere!
Brilliantly wierd!

*bows* Thanks very much!
Huh? Fred lived and George is inside him - wtf?

For some reason the computer/site is not giving this proper spacing, so I'll use bold and italics to keep points separated. Sorry about that! To clarify: Trade places one more time, for old time’s sake, you said. Fred & George traded places before the final battle. Each twin was using a Glamour--George to look as if his ear was still there, so he could be mistaken for Fred, and Fred to look wounded. It was not Fred who died--it was George impersonating Fred. The conversation takes place entirely in Fred's mind, as he alternates between being himself and 'being' George. Fred never has to mourn George, because to the world, he's become George.Hope this straightens it up--didn't want to be too explicit for fear of diminishing the impact of the finish. Thanks for reviewing!
Wow... nice twist. I guess that sort of thing could happen when you are identical twins!
Response from dracontia (Author of Question of Identity)
Thank you kindly! The psychology of twins is so unique. The numerous sets of twins in my family frequently traded places when they were young. They grew out of it and wanted to play up their individuality as they aged, but deprived of that opportunity to grow up and slightly apart... who knows what a twin might do...
very amusing read, with a very interesting twist. nicely done.

Only Fred and George (or in this case, Fred-as-George) could get humor out of a permanent post-mortem imposture...
Thank you for reviewing!
What? Huh? Clearly I have one too many glasses of wine this evening. Has George gone crazy? Or are they both living one life? I am one of the slower readers, I confess

Trade places one more time, for old times sake, you said.
Fred & George traded places before the final battle.
I suppose were lucky no one noticed that the Glamour disappeared when you died
Each twin was using a Glamour--George to look as if his ear was still there, so he could be mistaken for Fred, and Fred to look wounded. It was not Fred who died--it was actually George impersonating Fred.
You know, it hurt like hell, George old boy cutting off this ear.
When it was all over, Fred was the first to get back to the place where George's body was hidden. He disguised it permanently and cut off his own ear so that he could continue to pass as George--therefore, 'George' never 'dies.'
The conversation takes place entirely in Fred's mind, as he alternates between being himself and being George. Fred is George; George is Fred. And never again will they be separated.
I didn't want to make the story more explicit on these points so as to give the end more of an impact.
I hope this clears it up! Thank you very much for reviewing. :)

Yes thank you now I understand. *Must* stick to just one glass of wine when reading, I get to muddled otherwise.
Wow. Really fascinating and wonderful to read.

Thank you, my dear partner-in-crime! Every now and then, I start channeling O. Henry and something like this happens... :)
Those twins still up to no good. Ouch - Fred having to cut off his ear to look like George. Still playing jokes and having a life. So that is good.
Thanks really enjoyed reading this short story. Thanks.
Response from dracontia (Author of Question of Identity)
I'm glad you liked it. It's darker humor than I normally go with, but I can't imagine those two passing up a joke--even if a rather grim one.
