Nominated for three New Library Awards!
Prompted in part by a fleeting, foolish crush the summer after her fourth year, Hermione assists the Order in an experimental charm meant to protect Severus Snape as he resumes his role as double agent. Six years after the war's end, it appears the charm has a few unexpected consequences... even though Snape's long dead.

Woman of mystery. The stories I write are the most interesting things about me.
Reviews for The Properties of Silver
Oh no - the magic is still in effect - does this mean he is not dead? This would be one way to tell.
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
My lips are sealed, but I can say this: you haven't seen the last of Snape.
Liked this chapter - I love how you go through so much detail but without a ton of chapters on it. It rapidly progresses you through the story - good chapter. Hermione was with Ron because Severus is dead but what about the magic before - I wonder what you are going to write next.
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you. The binding magic still does have its part to play in this story.
Interesting first chapter - I got sucked right in and read avidly all the way... cannot wait to see what is next -good job.

Thank you! I hope you continue to enjoy this.
wow that was a lot of ground to cover, but you do it in such a way that one doesn't feel rushed.
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you.
This is quite interesting, I must say.

Thank you. I hope to update soon.
Those lessons were hard but well learned and a great way of condensing several years into one chapter, after all we all know what happened , so no need to repeat it.
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you so much. I tried hard to keep this on pace (and thus get to the good stuff sooner).
I love this story. I like how Hermione and Ron are together but he's not a complete tosser-like he tends to be portrayed. I really can't wait to read more.
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you. I actually quite like Ron (making me somewhat in the fandom minority, I fear) and even if he's not quite right for Hermione I wanted to show his sweet and funny side in this, as well as a more complex, adult HG/RW.
Very good start, funny and clever, I like Dumbledore pussy-footing around the whole virgin issue and I've never heard the expression "shaking hands with the unemployed before" , it's priceless!
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you! I had such fun writing Tonks and Dumbledore and am delighted so many people found my take amusing.
Lollerskates! Very clever and fun. Looking forward to your next update :)

Working on it... I promise! Thanks for the review.
Hmmm I wonder why the ring hurt? Bad match lol.I enjoyed the chapter, especially Hermione's self discovery. I think she came to some real conclusions about herself.
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
My lips are sealed as to the ring issue, though more will be revealed next chapter. Thanks for reviewing!
Good lord I just love your style of writing. I feel like I am skipping down the street while listening to the daily gossip, or sitting on the porch swing talking trash about the people walking by. It's a good thing, really. I'm a catty person who likes to gossip and reading things the way you have written them makes me feel like I am getting some inside information... like why Granger's finger hurts!
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you. I've had so much fun with this (and am a bit of a gossip myself, so perhaps that's where the tone comes from) and am thrilled so many people are enjoying this ride.
Oooo! Okay, I hope you update soon. I'm intrigued.
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Soon, I promise! Thanks for the review.
Augh! You're stopping there? Have I mentioned that I LOVE this story? Keep it coming! :)
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
I'm not stopping here. Just, er, pausing. The next chapter should be up in a bit.
Where is more? I need more! This is funny, clever, oh, so clever. Beautifully written and emotionally powerful. Wonderful, wonderful work -- and I'm so eager for more!
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you! I'll try to get more up soon.
*giggles This is fabulous. Witty and clever and I can't wait to see how it goes!
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you so much!
Another wonderful fic...less dark (and I have a weakness for those), but still marvelous. It's like drinking chocolate with a split lip...terribly sweet and satisfying with a hard edge. Bravo
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Ohh... Ilike that metaphor! Thanks for the kind review. After "That Language" I wanted to see if I could write something cheerier, though I have a bit more angst churning in the back of my mind for the story after this one...
What an interesting start to a story! I was completely hooked and I can't wait for the next update. Excellent writing and plot, I looooooved it!
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you! The next part should be up soon.
Wowsers... I am completely entranced by the plot you have introduced. I can't wait for more!

Glad you like it! More on the way...
Great first chapter! Very interesting, and I look forward to read more.

Good Start, I'm looking forward to the next chapter.
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you--and it should be up soon.
i'm happy to see you on this site, as it's my favorite haunt. of course, i'll still have to go trawling on ashwinder since you will probably be ahead in the posting over there, and i love your story so much i must read new chapter ASAP!
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thanks so much! I'm glad to be here!
Hee Hee Hee I love the line "Her kingdom for a mental Scourgify" and the way that Dumbledore tries valiantly to approch this conversation with decorum and tact. As if that were possible. I wonder how long it will take Hermione and Professor Snape to get over their ( I am sure) equal distate over the inevitable? Well done Irish
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Glad you found it funny! Hermione and Severus have some major ups and downs ahead of them, but you're right, the inevitable is coming...
Fascinating start - looking forward to reading more!
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thanks! I have the next chapter waiting to post.

I read the beginning of this at Ashwinder when someone recced it at The New Library community on LJ. Very glad to see it here now! :-D
Author's Response:
I'm glad to be here...this story should be caught up to what I have on Ashwinder soon.
I just LOVE the balance of humor and seriousness in this story! One of my favorite scene is when Hermione "contacts" Snape in that poker game. "you owe me a husband"... lol. It really illustrates the fuzziness of her brain under the influence of the potion, and demonstrates that contacting the dead isn't a walk in the park, and misunderstanding is all too easily done... I also agree with another reviewer about the department of mysteries door too. (For something that is labeled a "mystery", with unspeakables working in it, the security should be very high due to curiosity. A bunch of kids shouldn't have much ease in getting in.)Your newly revived Snape is very mysterious and different, but I think that is to be expected since things have changed since he died. I wonder if his reprieve is connected with his still being bonded to Hermione and if revoked sends him back? Ginny's reactions are very realistic and also the feelings of the rest of the DA for a post-war world. Snapes' presence reminds them of those who were lost quite harshly as he too was considered lost. I look forward to seeing what kind of interactions there will be between them.
