Nominated for three New Library Awards!
Prompted in part by a fleeting, foolish crush the summer after her fourth year, Hermione assists the Order in an experimental charm meant to protect Severus Snape as he resumes his role as double agent. Six years after the war's end, it appears the charm has a few unexpected consequences... even though Snape's long dead.

Woman of mystery. The stories I write are the most interesting things about me.
Reviews for The Properties of Silver
Great story! It's been funny, sad, awkward, and comfortable in all the right places. You really work well with words - "tasted the sound of a zipper unzipping". So good!I'm anxiously awaiting future chapters!
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you. I'm glad you're along for the ride.
Do you have any idea how (as Ron would say) bloody brilliant this is? What a fab sense of humour and awesome way with words you have. And then to add in the most wonderful bard himself (by the way your the 5th or 6th fanfic i've read where he is a squib....sorta starting to believe it now). Please keep updating and I promise to keep reading and reviewing.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'm so glad you find it entertaining and will do my best to post again soon.
OI! I don't think he was supposed to follow her through. What a fabulous twist. I was wondering if Snape was alive and hiding, or how you were going to bring him back.
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you. I'm glad you're enjoying the surprise (especially as it may take Hermione a chapter or so to enjoy it...)
Oh my freaking dog in heaven where is the next chapter?!?!?!?!
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Mostly in my head at present, though I did write the first 394 words of it this afternoon... I'll try to write quickly!
There is so much to love here. I love Hermione's fresh/innocent point of view at 15, with things like, "If she'd said it to Sirius, it would have been a little like flirting." Oh, sweet Hermione.
The Shakespeare/name thing is terrific.
Your description of her altering her parents' memories is my favorite I've read.
The life you have planned for Hermione and Ron is the kind of life I would have wanted them to have in a JKR-designed epilogue.
I'm looking forward to what you do next, especially as it involves our beloved SS.
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you so much. I'm glad you're enjoying so many of the details. As for HG/RW, if that's the kind of life the epilogue gave them, I probably wouldn't write fanfic.
The bit at the begining where Molly explained her opinion on why the memory charm wouldnt ravel was brilliant. It gives Molly a depth of character not normally seen. Well done! WHERE IS SEVERUS??
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Read on, dear. Severus will be here soon enough. Thanks so much for the review... of course I was going to give your sister her due respect. After what she did to Bellatrix I wouldn't dream of crossing her.
Response from MollysSister (Reviewer)
There is seldom a Molly in fan fiction that I can admire. You have given me one, thank you again. I taught little Molly everything she knows about defense.
Oh HO! That didn't go as expected, Hermione! Reaaaaaly looking forward to seeing where this is going next!
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
No, it didn't. :)Thanks for the review.
I was about ready to swear that Severus wasn't dead after all. Good job keeping me on tender hooks
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you!
Fabulous! I can't wait for more!
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you so much. I started work on the next chapter today.
Oh what a wonderful scene - he came back from the Veil because she said that she needed a husband - I hope you continue this - Will she except him? This is a good one.
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you! As to Hermione's response, I am working on it... :)
I think the best line of the chapter is "So much junk. She was starting to feel like Harry at a Dursley family Christmas." I really liked how you fast forwarded through the last 3 books. Best summary ever!
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you so much. I had a lot of fun reducing the OOTP, HBP and DH into a few lines, and am glad you enjoyed the "fast forward" as well.
Be ye careful what ye ask for, lest ye receive it!Looking forward to what comes next!
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Careful what you ask for indeed!Glad to hear you are enjoying.
Mad Queen you are so damn funny! You make me laugh and giggle and twitter I lose my spot in the story...Don't ever stop. I think I love you.
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
My goodness, thank you. I *feel* loved.
I like Ivy and Julian and Hermione's interaction with them.
The whole chapter is fabulous. I'm adoring every minute of this story :)
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you. I like the idea of some decent Slytherins struggling with post-war attitudes, and am so glad those two kids were well-recieved, both by Hermione and by kind readers like you.
Response from slasher454 (Reviewer)
Oh, I love me some Slytherins. They're ever so much more fun to read and write, all cunning and ambiguous. Who says that calculating, ambitious, and shrewd aren't perfectly decent and likeable traits?Oh yeah, JKR. Well, I say pish! Slytherin FTW!
Dear God I love this story! Please continue I am hanging on your every word!
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
I will continue, I promise! I started the next chapter yesterday afternoon.
OH MY GOD! This chapter is hilarious! I was going to pick out my favourite lines but along the way I realized there were just too many of them. I do have to mention the one about her being clever and involving a jar. I also like the key lessons of her first, second, and third years. Then there was the one about her not being destined for Sirius because she was female. And the "ew ew ew" line. Well, look at that, I guess I did list the lines that I liked. The one that Tonks asked was already mentioned, so I left it out.I also like that Hermione doesn't already have a crush on him. It just gets old. Every single plot line involves Hermione needing to help Snape survive the war and she always admired him, etc, etc. She seems much more like a teenaged girl here. We all know she's smart, but she is only 15. I like that you portrayed her that way.
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you so much for such a nice, detailed review. I'm glad to see that so many of the lines that cracked me up when I wrote them cracked you up reading them. So glad you're enjoying my take on her teenage crush. I imagine Snape's a bit of an acquired tase, even for so bright a witch.
Laughed so much at this!Well done!
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Glad to have made you laugh.
Giggled at this bit: some kind of post-Dementor facial tic
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you so much... I suspect Azkaban would be responsible for at least a bit of lingering trauma.
Couple of lines I loved:"Thanks heaps, Headmaster," said Tonks. "Right. Hermione. Okay. Because this is always the first question I ask new witches of my acquaintance. Slept with anyone lately? Ever?" Someday Hermione was going to write up a list of things in the Wizarding world that royally teed her off.Liked her mental commentary and her list of 'lessons learned'. Love you forever for how uncomfortable you made Albus! Too bad it couldn't last (and that Hermione had to 'suffer' as well).
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you so much. As you can probably tell I had such fun with Tonks and Dumbledore in this chapter.
please update soon! I really enjoy your writing style, and your story is also very well edited.
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you so very much. My fabulous betas get full cretit for this being "well edited."
first i was horrified that Hermione's parents couldn't remember. then I got to the gay Remus, Sirius, Pettigrew (!) mess, and the horrid poems mentioned -and had to stop myself from shrienking with laughter. I love your clever and original ideas for this story. Magic rings from twinkies, the deft use of minor characters, a owl to slughorn for a non-existant party (and I'm dying to know about the nifflers and Gwenog Jones) heroine hair, a Granger! "I still will." You are so much fun. Like life, little bits of comedy poke through the sad, and little bits of tragedy, like George without a best man, mar some happy times. "May bees sting worst of all." a brilliant thing to tell your kids!
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you. Poor Pettigrew. I suspect if he'd just had the opportunity to properly (er, improperly) play with all the pretty others, he might have been a shade more loyal. If I had any gife for iambic pentameter at all I would have written those PP/RL poems.
*Indignant sigh* Cliffies are mean, you know! However, this will definitely be an update I watch for! I like your characterizations. Those all out verbal brawls, followed by love, coming to an understanding and forgiveness are important to a relationship. If you can't disagree, how do you know when you truly agree and understand? I look forward to seeing how they handle the ring.
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Apologies on the cliffhanger (though it probably won't be my last). Glad you like my take on the relationships here.
Brilliant writing style, you've captured my imagination and I can't wait for more chapters.
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you. I should have the next chapter done and of to my betas within the week.
Great story. I really like the style and rhythm. ummm, and I can't wait for more!
Response from madqueenmab (Author of The Properties of Silver)
Thank you. You shouldn't have to wait long.
