Reviews for The Knight Errant Chronicles
McNair. OMG great insert. I like the way Emily really has the feel of belonging in this world. Most OCs are awkward or godlike but she fits into the existing storyline smoothly and makes this a truly believable AU.
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Yes indeed, I thought Walden Macnair should be the one to commend our heroine for getting rid of a dangerous beast -- of all the guests present, that line was going to him. Thanks for your comments on the OC -- I couldn't be more pleased that she's believe-in-able. Yay!

Thank you! Someone that remembers Snape isn't old! Ahhhh. This was a great chapter and Snape was dead on when he finally let Emily have it. I really like the way the characters interact and how they're staying true to their canon personalities.
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Yeah, for some reason people always seem to write Snape like he's fifty or sixty when he's really the same age as Harry's parents for heaven's sake. He's only 35 in KEC, and that's not even middle-aged -- he's still a young man with a young man's desires and ambitions.Plus I've seen SO many fics that pair Snape with early-twenties and teenage women that I wanted to see him with a woman who is very nearly his own age -- Emily is only a few months younger than he is, even though she looks younger because Faeries are a longer-lived people than humans, and as such their young adulthood is longer.I do love JKR's characterizations and try to keep them in character as much as humanly possible. Glad you're enjoying it!

A Tardis? Like the Doctor? For a suitcase?!
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
You picked up on the Dr. Who reference! Yes, my fictional "Taerdis Leather Goods Company" makes suitcases, satchels, handbags, etc. with more room on the inside than on the outside. I threw that little detail in there just because I travel a lot and would love to have one myself. Preferably in black alligator leather with a green silk interior and a temperature-controlled wine cabinet. But ya know, not that I've thought about this or anything.

I used to read, and re-read this story on Occlumency. I am so thrilled that you are revising it (and only slightly - thank goodness) since I have long feared that it was an abandoned work of fiction.Re-reading this chapter was wonderful - your writing style is so fluid, lovely and lucid.
It was nice to see a flirty Lucius without him being a sleezeball.
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Thank you! I'd just read too many fics where Lucius is either a) a totally repulsive sleazeball trying to boff everything female, or b) a Hannibal Lecter-style eyeball-carving psycho, or c) an adoring sex god better endowed than John Holmes. And dammit, I just can't see him as ANY of the above! Besides, if he was an oozing sleaze, Emily would see through him in about one minute, so there wouldn't be all that fun sexual tension percolating between the two of them. Thanks for staying with it!

Heh. Getting found out is always embarassing. I like the way you've put together the theory of fae magics with HP.
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Thank you! Yes, after I read "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them," and saw the entry about Fairies as vain little insects, I started thinking about how the current descendants of Puck, Oberon, and Titania would feel about that...and it kind of went from there. I'm an absolute nerd for fantasy lit and European folklore, so it was great fun to put as much of it into KEC wherever I could. Thanks for all the reviews!

I like the way he reacts to her when she arrives at Hogwarts. I think it's very honest the way he's portrayed.
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Yes, I didn't think Snape would turn into some swingin' bachelor capable of being flirty or cheeky right under Dumbledore's nose; no, I figured he'd be monumentally embarrassed to discover his callbox paramour materializing under his nose at Hogwarts, and upon being confronted with her, to instantly begin to worry about his reputation rather than his romantic life. Thanks for the review!

Ah so sad, leaving him like that. This is such a tantellizing story.

Oh trust me, SS won't be left behind for long. Miss Spelled-With-a-Y and her romantic nemesis are just getting started!I hope you enjoy what's to come -- but no spoilers!

It's nice to see the fairies addressed in the HP universe. I also like the fact that the wizarding world is a little nervous about their presence.
I just wanted to tell how you how unique and special this story is. It's a real treat to have something this well thought out and well written in the fandom.
Argh! Severus is always willing to entertain the benefit of the doubt ("if he's sincere")! Lucius is, I think, more evil than the Dark Lord. What would the Dark Lord say if (and when?) he finds out what Lucius is doing, that the reason Severus stays away is because of Lucius' antics? But all that aside, it is absolutely tender how Severus depends on Emily and how he tended to her needs when she was burned. Little by little their relationship changes as their perpectives change and realizations occur. I'm enjoying watching this aspect of the story...... as much as I want to ream Lucius a new one and roast him on a spit.

This is far and away the best fan fiction I have ever read. Please keep it coming!!

Thanks so much! We've got another chapter soon to be validated, and lots more to come! Thanks for reading!

Your Severus is amazing. A-maz-ing. I want him to be real. I melted at that last bit, and the defensive he went on for Emily? Pure perfection. This is a work of art.
I'm sure you hear this a lot but I still have to say it. This story is sensational!!
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Thank you! The second half of this chapter with the resolution of the Big Murder Plot Cliffhanger should be up very soon!
Response from Alexia Evans (Reviewer)
Great!!! I can't wait :)
oooh, your wicked girl, such a cliffhanger. Please, update soon.
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
C'mon, if I spent all my time assuring you that all would be love and sunshine, I'd bore you all to tears! But never fear, the second half of this chapter is coming right up!
Hi there, thanks so much for your story. I honestly haven't been able to stop reading it. I have read through to the end , and was unable to stop myself from reading it on the other site. Please, please continue your work, as your story is the only one I have read that is substantial enough to save Severus from book seven. Though after having read what you had posted up at the other site I know Severus is truly not dead and I am happy where he is! If you ever do tire of updating KEC could you pretty please jump forwards and save him in DH!
Your's is one of the first strories I read in fanficdom, but I was dissappointed when it just stopped and was no longer being updated. When I saw KEC on this sight I have to admit I neglected to even look at it again because I like closure and was affraid that it was just being posted here with no updates intended. But something made me check the reviews for Chpt.1 and noticed that you were activiely responding and working on the story. Your writting was and is my inspiration. So far not many stories I have read can compare to yours, the detail and the element of fantasy is a wonderful mix and the length of KEC is fantastic (love indepth long reads). Emily is a strong female character who is intellegent, meaning I have never felt a "squishy" awkward moments when reading your work. Lacking confidence in the past to leave a review on the other sight I want to say please continue this story, you are very talented, and I need closure!
Juliet was the Capulet and Romeo the Montague.
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Into everyone's brain, there sometimes comes a little flatulence. Fixed!
You have done a grand job of making the Slytherin set have 3D personalities. Much more interesting than the original work. Love your dialog. Enjoy your original characters. Please continue. I enjoyed Sirius. Adore Severus of course. Credible motives for all joining DeathEaters, more believable than flimsy original JKR .JKR seems to have forgotten that even amongst real life Nazis there were genuine heros obliquely foiling Hitler where they could. Once more great job.
I like the way you portray Draco. He lives such a sheltered, priviledged life. It's no wonder he acts like such a prat towards 'the low lives' he has to associate with.
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Thank you! I've always though that Draco was a fairly ordinary spoiled brat who turned out the way he did because he picked his parents badly. This really came to a head when I read HBP, what with his private crying jags in the bathroom when the pressure to commit horrible crimes got to be too much, Draco strikes me as nothing so much as a kid who happened to be the son of a Nazi war criminal -- sure, he's a corrupt bully, but he's not as bad as they're trying to force him to become.
Anyway, thanks for the review! There'll be lots more to come in future chapters!
I hope you continue this story, I do liked it.
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Next chapter is in the queue! Thanks for staying with it!
Yay! Much as I've enjoyed the forays into the past, I'm glad to have caught back up to the "present." Excellent showdowns between Emily and Severus, and I love that he found himself spurred on to research how to better treat iron burns for the Fae. Can't wait to see this Order meeting!
Yikes. Bella really is systematically digging her claws into him, isn't she? And he's handing her ammunition and doesn't even realize it. I can see why he was even more upset than some men might be at getting "loved and left" at King's Cross! Much as I'm anxious to get back to the "present," I am very much enjoying learning all this history of Severus' life.
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Indeed, poor Severus starts out laboring under the illusion that he can trust and confide in the woman he's sleeping with, naive lad that he is. And you're also right in thinking that having the rug yanked out from under him like that might have left him more sensitive than the norm in the face of betrayal (or perceived betrayal) by his lover. Maybe the dressing-down he gave Emily at the Hallowe'en Ball was just a little more vehement than her offense truly deserved... but we'll see what comes of that in future chapters!
Then he reached for her True Name.
Damn! I knew he was being slimy and manipulative but had no idea to what extent!
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Yes, for me much of Lucius's character is about that which he covets, and seeing as how he's had the best of everything the Wizarding world has to offer from before it ever occurred to him to ever want anything, I see him as getting a little obsessive about that which someone else wants more than anything in the world. (Like Dorien Tumnus's wife, for example.) The idea that Emily has something that he can never, EVER have, no matter how thoroughly he seduces and debauches her physically... you know that's gotta drive the man crazy.
But Lucius has only begun with the sliminess and manipulations -- I cannot WAIT until you see Part III!
I really love seeing this side of Severus. You do an excellent job contrasting the usual Bastard!Snape with Honorable!Snape and yet keeping him identifiably the same character.
