Reviews for The Knight Errant Chronicles
Arcadia's incredible. No wonder Emily's so homesick. I'm liking all of Lucius' companions except for that racist & sexist south african bigot.
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Wheeee! Yes, I had a whole lot of fun describing Arcadia. (And as for the bigoted fellow -- yes indeed, he was supposed to be pretty odious. You can tell a lot about a man by the company he keeps, eh?)
Can't wait till you see what's coming next!
Yay for Emily getting Cecile! How traumatic that interrogation was for her though. I don't blame her for not wanting those memories back.
One question, though - the sock Portkey. Wouldn't that have freed her? Or doesn't it count since it was on its way to the rubbish bin?
I love that she and Dobby are so happy to see each other! So sweet.
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Thanks! It's funny; I created Cecile as sort of an unimportant bit player meant to move the exposition along originally, but then she took on a soulful life of her own somewhere along the line. It became important for me to get her out of that awful situation at Malfeasant and into a better life. The sock Portkey was intended to be symbolic of Cecile's being sent away by the Malfoys into Emily's service, i.e. "We free you, and abandon you to the tender mercies of your new Mistress" -- without ever knowing how merciful that new Mistress is by comparison! Plus the disposable, icky nature of an old sock would also be representative of the Malfoys' degrading treatment.Re: Dobby, I can only imagine that Cecile must have thought he'd been cast away into the Great Unknown, and since I imagined that the two of them might have been friends back at Malfeasant, I thought she might have been worried about him. It certainly made for a happy reunion between the two when they met in the kitchen at Hogwarts!

She felt his eyes on the side of her face... like some yearling buck
quivering to show off his new virility to an alpha doe.Uh-oh. That's more than a little disturbing!
For a single long moment, Emily wished that Professor Snape was
there to air his own acerbic opinion of seeing Draco Malfoy flirting
with her, like a breath of ice-cold conscience in the midst of all this
temptation, lust, and indulgence. She never thought she would see the
day when she missed Snape, but just for a second, she did.
Gotta love that oblique bit of realization that, yes, she misses him!
Emily's brows instantly creased in hard dismay – Professor Snape had an
affair with someone named Bella? Who in the flaming Christian hell was
this Bella person?
Love the jealousy!
Too bad she didn't have some of the twins' Extendable Ears to help with the eavesdropping. They would've been handy!
"My daughter says the same – she's always saying that Hogwarts would be
the best school in the world if only two things happened: if Snape
became Headmaster, and they stopped accepting Muggle-borns," Parkinson
agreed.
*shudders* Nice bit of ... well, there's no way to know yet if it's foreshadowing or not.
"It's all right, darling, I'm not jealous. I couldn't be more
pleased, for both of you." Lucius caressed her cheek adoringly. "All I
want is for the two of you to be happy. You know that."
Riiiiiiiight, Lucius. And I'd like to buy that bridge you're selling, too.
I really, really like the glimpses you've given into the Malfoys and the Death Eaters in this chapter. Excellent!
she for a moment regretted that she hadn't been born into some boringly
nice farm family somewhere out in the middle of Second Kingdom Bugfuck
Nowhere ... and
would never have heard of any such fantastic beast as a wizard Potions
master from Scotland.
Aw, now what fun would that be? lol
could iron's toxicity for the Fae somehow not be chemical in nature,
I love that his coping method is to focus on the iron mystery.
she saw his lips silently spit the word Bitch. She gave him a very twinkly fuck-you kind of smile in return.
I really, really love this side of her.
*Where BlackCoat-SoftVoice-KindHands?*
Awww! That's such a sweet testimonial.
Perhaps the presence of iron in human blood is the reason why
Muggles are the dominant race on Earth, and magic-using humans are so
rare.
Intriguing theory!
now that she's had a very delish booty call with her white knight, I'd like to see her get some fun girl time on w/Tonks; sounds like they'll be great friends--and would get themselves into a lot of interesting situations. . .
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Oh goodness, Lucius Malfoy may have been called by many names during his lifetime, but "white knight" is not one of them. He may look all purty and cuddly and white-knight-ish right now, but... OOOOOH! No spoilers!
As for the Emily/Tonks friendship, there will definitely be more to that later on. Cheers!
Thanks, it's wonderfull.
Another brilliant chapter. Love it, love it, love it.
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Thank you! I'm glad to see people are enjoying reading this fic as much as I enjoyed writing it. Cheers!
and the tension builds.... You are awesome.. if you don't hear that enough. xoxoxo
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Wow, thank you! I'm trying to write an original novel as well as update KEC at the moment, so I do appreciate the positive reinforcement!
Can't wait 'til you see what this story has in store!
I am completely enthralled by this epic story. I had it pegged as a fantasy writer's cyber-wank to begin with (see VERY detailed lexicon), but I am slowly falling in love. All the lore you weave into the HP universe is both logical and believable. And, all that before I get to your original character. She is both flawed and beautiful and totally the woman to challenge SS in the long run. If JKR ever introduced a love interest for Snape (ignoring the fact that it is a children's book - I speak of an alternate reality) she would be it. Now, I am going back to re-read the lexicon as I freely admit to skipping over it in leaps and bounds to get to the story. Keep up the great writing - you are now firmly on my favoriets list, and I will be terribly pissed if you stop halfway through.
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
*belly laugh* Don't even worry about skipping over the Lexicon at first. One of my betas told me, "You see, G, half the people reading this fic are here because somebody told them about the ahem, EVENTS of Ch. 1. EVERYBODY'S going to skip over the Lexicon and then refer to it as the corresponding plot points turn up." (She has proved to be about 110% right. This does not in any way trouble me.)
Thanks for the remarks about the setting! I love the way JKR treats the various supernatural communities as ethnicities, and it's been lots of fun fitting the Fae into it as an overlapping part of the already-rich world our beloved Canon Goddess Ms. Rowling has given us.
As for my OFC, Emily came about because dammit, I wanted a female character who would be a good match for Snape, as smart and formidable and he is. We've got some great women in the Potterverse, but alas, Hermione is 14, Tonks loves Lupin, Fleur loves Bill, and I don't think the 70ish McGonagall is the type to have mad love affairs (especially when they involve callboxes.) I set out to make up a sort of white-knight version of Bellatrix, and Emily is what I came up with.
Also, don't worry about me stopping halfway through. There's a LOT more of this story coming, and at this point, I think I'd need to compound fracture both my hands to get me to stop writing fiction!
This is by far the best story I've read on this site.. and I've read alot of them...You are extremely talented and have a wonderful wit about your work. I'm looking very much forward to more... please please don't stop writing this!!!
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Thank you! I shall strive to be worthy!
Don't worry about me stopping in the middle of this story by any means; it's a long, epic tale, with literally dozens more chapters to come. Thanks for reviewing!
I love this story! It's one of the most captivating fanfics that I've read in awhile! I espcially like how you're weaving the tales of the Fae into the story and incorporating the Wiccan Sabbats. Emily's character is very fascinating and she is most definitely a perfect match for Severus. Update soon please!
on the 'ladies': mee-OUCH. Harpies all, maybe except for Beatrice. There's a lot of elektrickery between Lucius, Severus and Emily--wow.
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Yeah, somehow I figured the Death Eaters' wives wouldn't exactly be the nicest, least competitive lot of females on the face of the Earth. I envisioned a lot of organized-crime-wife sort of intrigue going on amongst the women. It's all ultra-polite on the surface, but with all sorts of nastiness and back-biting roiling just beneath.
As for the SS/ES/LM interaction, oh sweetie, I'm just gettin' started. Can't WAIT till you see what comes next!
I also read your story at a different archive (the pre-move, hopefully in-order version of it). I won't spoil other readers, but I will say I love it - Emily is one of the very best OFCs ever!
Does this mean you're working on the story again, or will be by the time you've posted up through chapter 50 or so? I'm dying to know how it ends!
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
*Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr* I try not to think of the proper mangling they gave KEC at That Other Archive when they moved it, as such thoughts are hard on my tooth enamel. I LIKED the site they had already... *sigh*
Yes, I am indeed working on KEC again, doing some revisions, and getting it all retro-fitted into HBP compliance of course. And yes, I think that by the time I've got all the chapters up here, I might have some new material written. I'll admit I've not been horrifically motivated to submit anything new over at The Other Place because it's kind of demoralizing to look at your properly MANGLED baby all the time and feel any desire to expand it. But another nice thing about this archive is that it allows me to put more than 12,000 words at a pop, so hopefully I won't have to chop up my chapters so much here. That did get kind of awkward IMHO.
Anyway, thanks for the review!
Swanky weekend @ Malfeasance, and the Tri-Wizard Tournament! you sure have the characters very busy. Very interesting.
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Thank you! I simply cannot wait until you see what happens in the next couple of chapters...
Er, did Emily change shape when she ran through the Forbidden Forest? Her run-in w/Snape was classic formidable-Potions-Master. Her nightcap w/Lucius was flirty and cute. . . . what an excellent, hot triangle you've got here. *smirk*
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Did Emily change shape during her run in the Forest...well, it was stated in the Lexicon, several chapters ago, that some Faeries are shapechangers - BUT, I'll say no more about it! (Look forward to other chapters for an explanation!) And yes, this fic was always intended to be a SS/OFC/LM love triangle, so I just hope that you'll enjoy the way it plays out!
NOOOOO. How tragic! I haven't reviewed at all up til now - just to let you know I've been lapping up every single character - this is truly amazing.
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Thanks-you so very much! I'm putting up Ch. 35 later today, so stay tuned!

I love your attention to detail. It's not just reading the description, it's like I'm transported right to Malfeasant and cringing!
Response from Guernica (Author of The Knight Errant Chronicles)
Thank you! A friend told me early on that reading KEC was like "falling into a movie," and I liked that description so much that I've aspired to it ever since. Thanks for reading!
