***Winner - Multifaceted Rd 6 for Devotion*** An accident with a potion upends the comfortable relationship Remus and Severus have had in the three years following the end of the war. How well do two middle-aged men react to change? This is meant as a humorous look at the Male Pregnancy cliche.

I picked up the Harry Potter fandom around the time the first movie came out and began writing fanfic early 2005 after discovering the adult online community. I identify most closely with the Slytherins and you will see my taste in writing lends me to writing about Slytherins more often than not. In addition to fanfiction, I also make fanvids on the Harry Potter fandom. I'm a Perfect Imagination acredited beta and am willing to help authors. My main 'ship interests are Snape/OC (never really got into the SS/HG pairing) and LM/any female (with HG as a new favorite). I have dabbled in RL/OC and RL/NT and am okay with those pairings. I generally shy away from slash, just not my thing. For updates on my writing, check out my Live Journal

goodness gracious! In SS's position, I would be horrified. Very hilarious and entertaining reading.
Great stroy thanks for sharing.

I'm really glad you enjoyed it. It's not my normal forte and I know a lot of folks aren't into mpreg, so having folks find it enjoyable despite that means a lot to me. :D
Brilliant story. You captured a hormonal pregnant Snape perfectly.
Response from phoenix (Author of When Good Potions Go Bad)
Thank you. That was what really made me write the story. I can just imagine a hormonal Snape and found that idea so hilarious as to be irresistable. LOL
I'M NOT MUCH INTO THE WHOLE SLASH GENRE, EITHER. THAT SAID, I REALLY ENJOYED THE STORY. THE IDEA OF A CRANKY, HORMANAL SNAPE WITH SWOLLEN ANKLES APPEALS TO THE WICKED WITCH IN ME. NEXT TIME, COULD HE HAVE TRIPLETS?!? MAYBE SET HIM UP WITH SOME NICE MATERNITY ROBES?!?
Response from phoenix (Author of When Good Potions Go Bad)
LOL Thanks Samantha. I still have no idea what possessed me to write this one, but I had a blast doing so. The idea of Snape with triplets is just too rich. LOL
You know, now that I have had to suffer through the whole finding maternity wear thing (what is it with horizontal stripes?), I think that definitely could have been something fun to play with, though since robes are by nature loose fitting, it doesn't seem as plausible. But hey, MPREG isn't plausible either, so that would have been great fun. LOL
Oh, an epilogue! That would be amusing as well! Great job with this! I think I'm glad I spurred you on and fed your muses chocolate. Hehe! I throughly enjoyed this. It is hilarious! Fantastic job! :)
Response from phoenix (Author of When Good Potions Go Bad)
Thank you very much yet again for the wonderful idea. I never thought I could make a go of it, but I really loved this. And I have started on another chapter. I'm not sure if you can call it an epilogue or not. It might be too long for that. I need to see how it works. This story still cracks me up when I read back through it. LOL I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I've read some parodies that are absolutely painful, but this one is really funny. You've done a great job!
Response from phoenix (Author of When Good Potions Go Bad)
Thanks. Sorry it took so long for me to respond to the review. I had some doubts about doing this one because I have heard folks complain about how horribly implausible and out of character the characters tend to get in this sort of story. I think keeping them in character is what made this so much fun. :D
What a sweet little chapter. A daughter. I knew it! Ha.Severus has to breast feed. LOL!I can't wait to read the sequel. And I wouldn't be surprised if Persephone marries James one day.Poor Severus! That was really a great story, and you have my vote!
Response from phoenix (Author of When Good Potions Go Bad)
Yup, I figured that a daughter would be the perfect thing to foist on two fathers. LOL And I really couldn't pass up an opportunity to torment Severus one last time. LOL Though, I was mercifully non-descriptive.
The sequel will be coming at some point. Plans are in the works, I just need to find the time. And yeah, having her marry James would torque poor Dadddy S off to no end.
Loved it! I'd love to read more about their little family, but I agree that this story ended at the right place. I love LOVE love that Severus finally realized that he was happy. That's so important for a person to appreciate! Well done.
Response from phoenix (Author of When Good Potions Go Bad)
Thanks. I feel much better about this ending point than I was starting to feel about where it had previously left off. I definitely plan to revisit this, I'm already planning out how to address the intervening years. :D And it was really nice to see Severus realize it wasn't as bad as he thought it would be. LOL
Oh, yes, you cannot stop here! What do they name the baby? It is a boy or girl? More! More!
Response from phoenix (Author of When Good Potions Go Bad)
Don't worry, there will be at least one more chapter. The masses have spoken. :)
ROTFLMAO!!! That was hilarious!! LOL! I was laughing so hard that my sides hurt and I had tears in my eyes. I'm sooo curious about the baby. Boy or girl? What name? How will Severus manage his mother role? Hey, and what will the child call him when he/she is older? Mum? LOL!
Response from phoenix (Author of When Good Potions Go Bad)
I'm so glad that you really enjoyed this one. I tried to make it funny, but still have some seriousness to it as well. I'm glad that I succeeded....As for the baby, I know the sex, need to research a name. Hadn't thought about what the child will call Severus. Oh, how I can see Remus teasing him when the baby says 'ma-ma' There will be at least one more chapter for this one. So, standby, it'll be a few days though. I have to finish a "Beholden" chapter first.
You cant end it here! We must hear about the c-section. We must know if the baby is a boy or a girl. We must know the funky wizarding name! Dont tease! Finish the story!
Response from phoenix (Author of When Good Potions Go Bad)
The masses have spoken and there will be at least one more chapter. I might end up doing one more and then a future set epilogue, I haven't decided. I think I have decided on the sex for the baby, but I need a name. A really good one that will require much research.
Response from MollysSister (Reviewer)
You go girl! research! Impress me with a fantastic baby wizard name. Please fire me an email when your much wanted epilogue is up. I dont want to miss it!
Not being a big slash reader, I have always wondered: who gets PG? I mean why wasnt RL the preggers one? Why arent they both preggers? Is there a rule book for this anywhere? tee hee
Response from phoenix (Author of When Good Potions Go Bad)
You know, I'm not a big slash person, either. I don't know that there are any rules for this sort of thing. In this instance, SS was the one exposed to the potion, so he was the 'lucky one' to get pregnant - mostly because I thought it would be more fun to have him pregnant. LOL The comedic potentional of an already emotionally volatile Severus having those emotions amplified was too good to pass up.
what your ending this already...omfg...thats so unfair...please you are writing the first r/s story i have read that i actually enjoy as you are making them so real...going through actual emotions and just not bubble gumming pregnancy...as far as crying, yes i will if you leave it here...please continue...take care
Response from phoenix (Author of When Good Potions Go Bad)
june, I am so glad that you have enjoyed this and find it realistic. Part of the fun has been showing how difficult a time Severus is having and Remus's reactions to that. I have to give that man credit for waiting so long to lash out at Severus. I probably would have done it much earlier, but we know Remus is patient. I will at least have an epilogue where we meet the baby. :) We'll see where it goes from there.
Poor Sevvie! I think I've read this somewhere before and I'm pretty sure I reviewed it, but I had to do it here because I love this story!!! Hope Remus can make it through 2 more months of hormones!!
Response from phoenix (Author of When Good Potions Go Bad)
While Severus is my favorite character, I really feel more sorry for poor Remus in this story. LOL I'm so glad you are enjoying this story. I know it's one of those subjects that tends to be avoided.
As for having read it elsewhere, you left reviews on Eros & Sapphos, but Ch 3 is still awaiting validation there. :)

RIGHT!! The brain, the BRAIN!!!!!
Wow! That was a really quick update. Great!Oh, my poor Remus! At least Severus has accepted the fact that he's pregnant now.And Remus asking Arthur for advice; great! LOL! This story is so funny. I can't stop laughing. Please, update soon!
Response from phoenix (Author of When Good Potions Go Bad)
Thanks. I'm so glad you find this story funny. That's exactly what I was going for. As for the quickness of the updates, the story is done, so that helps immensely. I normally don't finish a fic before I begin posting it. :D
I figured Arthur was about the only person poor Remus could turn to. But will he regret that decision.
LMAO! Poor Remus has to deal with a pregnant Severus! LOL! I hope Severus doesn't faint, but I think even after the baby is born he'll deny the fact that he is/will be a "mother". Now that sounds really funny! LOL!I'm really curious how you'll explain his pregnancy. Please, update soon; I'm extremely curious.
Response from phoenix (Author of When Good Potions Go Bad)
Isn't that a hoot? I really do feel sorry for Remus, who had obviosly learned to live with Severus's normal moodiness, but this is a really rough ride. LOL And I definitely have to agree that I don't see Severus being the nurturing type.
I should have the update out in the next day or so. :) I'm really glad that you are enjoying this story. It was a lot of fun for me to write.
Hehe! LMAO! I love how against the idea of pregnancy that Severus is, even after it has been confirmed. Poor baby, suffering from such hormonal ups and downs. This is the part where I am supposed to feel bad for him, but I really don't. LOL! Oh, this story makes me laugh so hard. I can't wait for the rest! Great job! :)
Response from phoenix (Author of When Good Potions Go Bad)
I'm really glad that you find this story so funny, especially since you were the prime instigator for this one. But it's all good, this one has had me as I have tried to find new ways to abuse poor Severus. LOL I don't feel sorry for him either, even though he's my favorite character. I really feel sorry for Remus and he's the reason I sometimes thought of toning Severus down, but I always decided against it. LOL
ROTFLMAO!!!!! Oh, my! This strikes my funny every time. What a conversation to end up with this! LOL! You are truly one of a kind! Ah, Severus. And poor Remus. LMAO! I am laughing so hard, I'm crying. I look forward to the second part. :) BTW, I shall do my best to stop feeding your muses chocolate. LOL ;)
Response from phoenix (Author of When Good Potions Go Bad)
Thanks, Jen. This was such a fun fic to write that I really couldn't resist. I actually feel worse for Remus than I do for Severus, and Sev's my favorite character. LOL What does that say about my writing? I have to post the next chapter soon as that one cracks me up. I'm not sure which one is my favorite as I find the whole story funny.
As for feeding my muses, there's nothing wrong with that. :D I enjoy the creativity and you are getting me outside of my normal genres. I should try to get the next one up so that I can post to Lumos before SH combines to one archive. :) Just so I can say I posted in all the HP archives. LOL
I'm not really a fan of slash, but I realised several weeks ago that I like Snupin. Yes, I can't believe it myself. LOL!But I avoid MPREG. When reading about that I always start thinking: How can a man have contractions without having an uterus? How will the baby get out? What happens when the baby has YY chromosomes? That is possible because two men are involved. And how will two men manage to conceive when having anal sex?Maybe I have all these questions because I study biology. *shrugs*This first chapter is really interesting, and funny. So I give it a chance and this story will be my very first MPREG experience.Oh, and eww... Ice-cream and crisps? I can't wait to read what you'll do with this story.
Response from phoenix (Author of When Good Potions Go Bad)
Thank you so much for taking a chance on this fic. I know that many of the concerns you have about MPREG are ones that I share. I think I address all but one of the questions directly. The other, well, it is mentioned, but I wave my wand over the direct answer. LOL
As for the baby having YY, that might technically be possible, but women are XX and men are XY, so there are X chromosomes available. That's about all the explanation that comes up. I'm a physicist by training, so I sort of glossed over the biology (which it's been 18 years since I last had that course anyway), figuring it's not all that interesting to the plot, which focuses more on the relationship between the two and how they deal with this change, than how the pregnancy happened.
For the ice cream and crisps, I'm glad you found that eeeww worthy. LOL I put the call out for strange food cravings and that's one that got back to me.
