Romance Alternate Universe Friendship Potions Under Duress 39,348 Words 11 Chapters Complete
Hermione Granger Severus Snape

*Now Complete*

Written for nothingness101, as her SSHG Exchange BINGO prize. She requested: "A slightly fluffy Christmas romance which is a call back to the pureblood Snape of pre HBP. Basic story line about how Snape and Hermione get together, and I'd prefer a post war story. Thinking formal ball(s), formal courting, curtseys, formal address (Lord and Lady), maybe some family jewels (and maybe some Snape family to go with them). Please feature a frisky drunk Snape and lots and lots o' lemons."----I did my best!

AU post OotP, the tale of how Snape and Hermione helped defeat the Dark Lord, how their relationship developed, and how Snape Manor came into play.

Thanks to Gelsey for always being there to help me with this whole writing thing!

I have completed my Master's of Science degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and want to focus on serving the LGBTQIA community and the Alt/Kink/Poly communities in my work. I used to be a poker tournament director and floorperson at the world famous Binion's Gambling Hall in downtown Las Vegas. Before that, I was high school Spanish and Theatre teacher. I am happily married and (thankfully) have NO kids. I have an original short story published here: http://www.elm-books.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=R01%2DChristmasBadGirls under my penname, Jess Alynn. Thanks for taking a chance and reading my stories! :)

Oh, and check out the "trailer" for Phantom of Hogwarts that xtahsee made for me on youtube! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k63yCE9sslY

I'll be sorry not to see any more updates on this, but you did manage to bring it to a very satisfactory conclusion for all concerned. I'll just need to keep my fingers crossed you start something else before too long.

Response from Good_Witch (Author of Not to the Manor Born)

*curtseys*  Why, thank you, darlin!  I'm glad you enjoyed it.  Hopefully a new plot bunny will bite soon.  Thanks so much for reviewing!  :)

The first time I read this, I was out of words and wanted to think of what it was I wanted to say about the chapter. Sorry it took so long. I still really don't have them figured out, beyond that I smiled through the entire thing all over again. I loved that Severus turned down the elixir and why. I loved the first kiss under the mistletoe. "Not biblically," made me both grin and want to remember to try and use that if the opportunity ever arises. I loved Severus' shock and the earnestness of their alcove revelations/declarations. I love Lazarus and wish I had a relative as cool as he is. I argue with myself about which kiss under the mistletoe I love more-- I think Severus' cheeky decorum fucking might tip it, because I love that he just went ahead and addressed the crowd and then the two of them left in such a mischevious, lighthearted, and eager manner that left no doubt as to where they were off to and why. And then their moments of vulnerability tied up in anticipation, both before and after... They go so well with a love scene that is totally worth the build-up. Whether you're writing philos, eros, hint of citrus, or full-out lemons, you have a gift for layering physical description with emotion to create these amazing moments that ring true and real, and then string them together seamlessly to create stories that leave me content and happy. (P.S. I've recently read that overenthusiasm in a review can put the authenticity of it at risk, but just because I have trouble prioritizing and being concise doesn't make what I said any less true--especially the last part--so I'm hoping that's not the case. I enjoy your work and mean every bit of what I say.) (P.P.S. I am happy that there's still an epilogue on its way and am looking forward to it )

Response from Good_Witch (Author of Not to the Manor Born)

My word, what an embarrassment of riches this review is!  *beams and blushes*  Darlin, I IN NO WAY doubt your sincerity, and you totally made my night with your lovely specificity.  I started choking up at your assessment of my "gift" in writing the varied types of love and offering something that rings true and real to you (which is always the highest praise one can give me, as that is what I strive for the most in all my efforts).  Thank you so much for taking the time to share your response with me, as it truly makes the labour of love even more worthwhile.  :)

Yay!  I'm so glad there wasn't any drama.  When they knew, they just knew.  They are exactly what the other was looking for.  We've known that for awhile, of course.  :) I can't see anything but a happy future for them.

Response from Good_Witch (Author of Not to the Manor Born)

At last! And, thankfully, they both seem to think that the wait was worth it. As a reader, I would definitely have to agree with them. I was a little worried when Severus started offering her a separate room, but they worked that out. I hope this isn't quite the end?

Response from Good_Witch (Author of Not to the Manor Born)

*blush*  Aww, you're so sweet!  *beams*  I'm glad you found it satisfying.  There's an epilogue to go...  Thanks so much for reviewing!  :)

I honestly thought they would've ended up together at the first gala, but now I understand they have a bit of maturing to do in a sense. They're really growing in their friendship, and it's obvious they were only seeing other people because of their attraction to each other. I just feel a bit bad about what I consider all the wasted time. But I'm looking forward to seeing them finally come together as a couple.

Response from Good_Witch (Author of Not to the Manor Born)

*beams*  You got it, indeed!  When you consider that she just finished school under his tutelage not even six months ago, and she's just 19, it brings home how mature and wordly she cna be, but they still have to navigate figuring out what they want from relationships and how to get closer without ruining what they already have.  Thank you for such a lovely review!  :)

It is so obvious to us readers that they ought to be together because we are privy to both of their thoughts and motivations.  Unfortunately, they don't have that advantage.  It is so painful to hear them both discuss what they want, and we can see that it is right in front of them.  I think they will get there, but I wonder how hard they will have to be hit upside the head with it before they realize.I love what good friends they are; they are both very lucky to have such a person to tell their deepest darkest secrets to (mostly) and know that there are no repurcussions.  But this just goes to show what a great couple they will eventually make.  I have to admit I was cringing when he asked for details about her time with Liam.  Not that I minded, but for Severus' sake, you know.I hope you update soon.  I shall be worried about them until then.  :)

Response from Good_Witch (Author of Not to the Manor Born)

*beams*  Will it help you feel better if I tell you they'll get their happy ending?  ;)  Such a lovely review.  Thank you so much!  :)

Very nicely done. They do have a wonderful friendship and perhaps with the 'break' they can have time to realize how much more it can be. I wonder how long until they use their Christmas gifts to each other?

Response from Good_Witch (Author of Not to the Manor Born)

ROFL!  You probably just said what we all were thinking about those gifts...  ;)  Thanks so much for reviewing!  :)

How blind can two people be,  they are made for each other.  If one of them got serios with some one the other would be devistated  I love their banter and how they are their for each other..

Response from Good_Witch (Author of Not to the Manor Born)

LOL  Well, let's just say that they'll start seeing things more clearly very soon.  ;)  Thanks for reviewing!  :)

Wide grin and warm fuzzies over here. Perfect. Love how things progressed, love their interplay and reactions, especially where the boundary-pushing works its way in. Such a great chapter, love it!

Response from Good_Witch (Author of Not to the Manor Born)

I clapped in excitement to see you back and commenced reading :) The earlier chapters were a little awkward, which suited that process of befriending a former authority figure... I loved when Hermione's bossy moments broke through to reestablish that camaraderie parallel to her interactions with the boys, and then Severus' playful quips as he grows more comfortable with her. Their adult friendship rings true to a few of my own experiences... which makes me both smile and wince as well as sympathize in general--that sort of flirty-friend-zone is quite the mixed bag, isn't it? So, of course, I was calling them all sorts of idiot the first time they pulled out the elixir, and continued as they danced with and took home other partners. I was relieved that the bitter kinks were worked out to allow for better ones... but the firmer those boundaries settle the harder it is to see the other side's interest in changing them, then finding the faith to risk what's there once you do... and yet, the malcontents pop up as they will. And it the intirim, delicious tension and comfortable confidences. Le sigh. Even if it doesn't always, at least it can work out. Keeps one guessing. Looking forward to the next chapter: I'm interested to see how it all plays out for these two!

Response from Good_Witch (Author of Not to the Manor Born)

O.o  Oh, wow!  What a lovely review.  *beams and blushes*  You're responding to the things I was hoping so much that I had managed to convey, so you totally made my night!  I promise they'll have a happy ending.  ;)  Thank you so much for such a wonderful review!  :)

ROFL. Instead of shagging each other ( which we all know is what they REALLY want to do), they're going to go off and shag anyone else who's willing. :)
