New Chapter for The Ringing of the Empty Sound
The Ringing of the Empty Sound

Written as a response to the HP_remnants challenge on LiveJournal, with the prompt "And the picture frames are staring down, and the ringing of this empty sound, is deafening and keeping you from sleep", a lyric from a Dashboard Confessional song. Although not a song-fic by any means, I did listen to the song repeatedly while writing.
After the war, you have to start picking up the pieces.

Avatar blank done by LeDevineMarqiuse, adaptation done by Creamuts for me per request.
I am: an unrepentant Snape supporter, female, mid-thirties, a person that loves me the het and gen fic, a big fan of Darkfic and Death Eater fic, a person that doesn't t like werewolves, a person that doesn't care for about 99% of the slash, which (despite vehement protestations to the contrary), does not make me homophobic. I just don't like AU and OOC, and that's what most slash is. At least, most of what I've seen.
Really if you want to know more about me, my LJ is a better place for this.

Hmmmm. A confusing fic, but an interesting one. I must admit I find myself rather mystified by all the undercurrents...but a supremely well written piece.
I like this! I like your idea that Snape's patronus changed to a phoenix, an obvious symbol of Dumbledore. How cool. and you knew that he (Snape) was loyal to Dumbledore and the Order. I always believed that, too.RE: DHYou certainly called that one correctly, in that Snape's patronus was a form based on someone he cared about. I don't know if Snape's Patronus was originally based on Lily or if it changed, as it did in your story, but it's neat how you saw that before Deathly HAllows was published.

Wow, thank you for the lovely review.
I was fervently hoping there'd be a *reason* to know the Patronus could change. I am (or, well, will be) pursuing this more in my WIP but that has some definite Dark elements to it that a number of people don't find to their liking, so I won't be offended if you don't read it.
Snape. Ah, the wonderful ambiguous Snape. I hated him until about a month after HBP came out. Then I fell head-over for him. But I KNEW he was Dumbledore's man on my first hit of Chapter 2 of HBP.
Thank you for reading. In my life as an HP fanfic author, this is an OLD story (my first! Gack!)
"No, Hermione... not a cobra. A Phoenix."Out of love/respect/honor for Dumbledore as a father figure, he changed his Patronus from a cobra to a phoenix ... /sniffing tearfully, I started to cry when I read that bit (emotional, I might not be getting enough sleep, LOL). Very good!

Awww. I'm sorry you cried. But yeah, there's not really any good reason for us to know that it's possible for a Patronus to change, *unless there's a really good reason for us to know it*, I think. ;)
And everyone will think it's from Dumbledore. ;) It's the only way most of the Order will trust Snape's information.
very thought-provoking... i like it!

My first fan-fic ever. O_o
(I should have really reviewed this before ... sorry!) I really like the different elements you put into this one-shot. The paintings' attitudes were a nice touch. Moody's almost-protectiveness was nice to see. Minerva's reaction was honest, which is certainly what Severus needed. The end was stunning ... if that wouldn't make everyone trust him, I don't know what would. Beautifully done.

Wow...thank you!
*blush*
I liked reading this. Ever since I read HBP I thought that there must be some way Snape could be redeemed and I'm one of the theorists that think he did what he did because of a prior arrangement with Dumbledore. The change in Snape's Patronus was a really nice touch and so was making Snape related to one of the past heads of Hogwarts, it was really interesting to see you'd picked Everard, seeing as he, with Dilys Derwent, were the ones Dumbledore called on for help.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I love reading reviews to my stories, especially when people like them.
I am with you...I didn't like Snape much either until, well...basically until he killed Dumbledore and I really believe there was something FAR BEYOND what we appeared to see.
Alas, alack, Snape's Patronus changing to a phoenix was NOT my idea first...I got it from accioslash on LiveJournal. Similarly, Snape going to Durmstrang wasn't my idea either; I got that from alwaysthequiet1 on LJ.
However, I did come to the conclusion that Everard's last name was Prince, but that came straight out of his physical description (as being sallow skinned with black fringe (bangs, in English...so black hair), and there are VERY FEW people described as sallow. Everard, Snape, Broderick Bode (and I think one other)...and Eileen, in a black and white newsprint photo which has yellowed with age is described as being pale...but the paper itself was yellow.
Alwaysthequiet1 posted something about Everard being the one who reveals the truth, based on something from French, but I can't find it. It's interesting, though, to take it into consideration.
Good catch on Dumbledore calling on him for assistance; I'd missed that.
Thanks for reading & reviewing!
