ReviewedIt was already very hot, even under the great plane trees, and the garden was humming with the music of Provence summer: a soft blend of insects’ buzz, lazy leaves’ stirring, sounds of Hermione’s distant activity from the house.
Severus raised to his lips the glass of elf-made champagne with a little pang of guilt: it was not good for him, and he knew it.
But the golden, delicate, chilled drink seemed in such harmony with the morning sun, and he knew there would soon be a strawberry tart for lunch.
He sighed happily and turned over in the hammock.

The blue door was flung open, and the midday heat burst into the cool, treasured shade of the house.
Strands of whimsical song floated out: though Severus harrumphed, Hermione had taken to listening to Trenet while cooking. “For the local colour,” she had explained.
“Seeeverus! Lunch is ready!”
Hermione stood in the doorway, brushing a wisp of silvery hair from her face.
“He must have fallen asleep again,” she grumbled and walked to the back of the garden.
She saw the shattered glass of champagne first, then the elegant and listless hand over the edge of the hammock.
“Oh, Severus.”

Thank you so much for the lovely review!
Poor Hermione! It may be nice to have him around still but also painful to know she can't hug or kiss him.

But in a little time they'll have all eternity together and so much fun annoying Hogwarts' living denizens!
Shoult I understand he left this earth for good? That's a good way of dying but how sad.
Response from duniazade (Author of The Colour of Time)
Sorry for the belated answer - RL got in the way.And um... sorry for the sadness. I have to admit that if we have to go, going with champagne seems the least unpleasant way.Thank you for the review!
He did die (weeping quietly) - and I would pout about it - except I permit myself the luxury of assuming he's about 150 or so and Hermione is a lovely 130 - and that they'll soon enough have all of eternity together on the same plane of existence. I do like the fact she still speaks to him as though he were right there beside her - which of course he is.....
Response from duniazade (Author of The Colour of Time)
Oh yes, they were/are old and fulfilled, and anyway wouldn't let such a little inconvenient as death stand in the way. He is right there beside her and they most definitely look forward to all of eternity together (and to annoying Hogwarts' residents).Thank you for the lovely reviews!

Your beautiful words brought vivid, colorful images to mind. So lovely... but *gasp* what's up with that ending? I didn't expect that. *sniff, sniff*
Response from duniazade (Author of The Colour of Time)
Well, if it has to happen, let's make it as pleasant as possible... *sniffles too*And there are compensations - still one chapter to go. ;-)Thank you for the lovely review!
Good start :) Love the image of Severus laying in a hammock on a lazy summer day.

Beautiful in words and meaning. As I see it, death would bring peace, but not on the prince's terms. Time gives him a second chance, and while not always pleasant, it is life.
Response from duniazade (Author of The Colour of Time)
Yes, exactly - he didn't choose the easy way out. I'm glad you enjoyed this - thank you so much!
very sweet

Aw! So lovely and sweet.
What a neat little idea, too. And I'm sure you know which (lyrical, delicate, beautiful) descriptive passage I loved most. You always seem to have at least a line or a passage that I wish I'd written myself.
Author's Response: *g* Thank you, lovely Lula.
Awww! That's lovely.
