It's nine years post war. Hermione has just had a traumatic break-up with her fiance, Theodore Nott. Hurt and disillusioned with her life, she retreats to a cottage in rural Ireland that she inherited from a great-aunt. You'll never guess who else has been living a peaceful life in the Muggle world in the same small village for the past eight years.

I am a Harry Potter fanfic fanatic, I only discovered it after the release of DH. Disapointed that the series was ending, I read some blurb about fan fiction (which I had never heard of before) clicked a link and 'voila' I was hooked. I started out reading mostly Dramione, but evolved and although I still like DM/HG, my OTP is SS/HG. I also enjoy reading LM/HG and 3-somes with SS/HG/LM or DM/HG/BZ. As you can see I love seeing Hermione paired with those lovely Slytherin men.
After reading for nearly 2 years, I started writing a bit of my own, mostly shorter drabbles or ficlets. I've written seveal stories for fests, such as the SS/HG exchange, the LM/HG exchange, and the LuciusBigBang, fest among others.
I am magalena at here and at AFF, and FF.net; magdalena at GE, OWL and IATQO; and madeleone at live journal, AO3, Ashwinder and the Maple Bookshelf.Reviews for New Beginnings

Thanks!
I knew it! Now I know who it is that owns the Green Dragon :) I love the description of the towns people reminds me of the people in my town a bunch of gossips lol I look forward to the next chapter. *Grins*
Response from magalena (Author of New Beginnings)
*grins back* Yup, it's him all right! I know I live in a really small town too, everyone knows everything that's going on with everyone else! :D
My, my, isn't Severus the curious one? This is a fun read.
Response from magalena (Author of New Beginnings)
Thanks for reading. And he's fallen back into 'spy mode', it comes naturally to him, after all. :D
Go get him Hermione and while you are at it throw one at Severus too for being such a dunce! Love the story. Look forward to more soon. Thanks for posting, JoAnne
Response from magalena (Author of New Beginnings)
Well, you're very welcome and thank you for reading and commenting. I'm so happy that you are enjoying it. :)
Go Ginny! I can't wait to see what Hermione does to Harry after what she just found out lol I think her and Severus needs to have a long talk and maybe tell Harry to butt out and mind his own business.
Response from magalena (Author of New Beginnings)
Thanks, I think that is exactly what they need. LOL Hope Ginny doesn't get in too much trouble with Harry for ratting him out! :D
Response from Marty21 (Reviewer)
Oh I'm sure Ginny can hold her own with Harry. :)
No, no, no, I can totally GET why Harry told Sev what he did. That's brotherly love. That's friendly love. That's protective love, and if the shoe were on the other foot and Severus saw someone that could potentially hurt Hermione, you can be damn sure he'd say the exact same thing to that person! But I got all teary at his treatment of her when he came back. Been there, had that happen to me, and things were never the same after that. "you can lead a horse to water" and all that. Sometimes the words "but I really do like you, can't we continue?" don't change people's minds, and that's what the biggest fear IS. Or feeling so stupid like you've read too much into what's there, or feeling like you pushed too hard and freaked the other person out. UGH!!!
Response from magalena (Author of New Beginnings)
I'm glad that you 'get' where Harry is coming from, it's not that he dislikes Severus. But it's only been a short time since her break up and he fears that she's rushing in. Plus he's looking a Sev's track record, (spent years obsessed with Lily, has never had a long term stable relationship): he's thinking "is this a good idea for my best friend to get involved in, when she's already been hurt by a bad relationship?" Of course, Hermione's a big girl and can make her own choices and she will most assuredly not be happy with Harry's meddling. But he did do it from the heart.Sorry that you've had to deal personally with a similar rejection. :( (In this case I think everyone will be happy with the outcome.)
How beautifully wretched! LOVE the newfound angst! Now, will she stay, will she go or will she fight to get Severus?Looking forward to see what happens next!
Response from magalena (Author of New Beginnings)
Now, will she stay, will she go or will she fight to get Severus?Perhaps a little bit of each! :)
Oh yeah, and Harry is an even bigger idiot, and needs to keep his mouth shut. He's probably going to feel like an ass when Hermione tells him what Severus did.
Response from magalena (Author of New Beginnings)
I know it doesn't help much to say it, but he honestly meant well. And yes, he'll be lucky if she doesn't hex his arse!
All I'm going to say is that Severus is a first-class idiot.
Response from magalena (Author of New Beginnings)
Well, he's a man! They're all idiots at one time or another!
:(
Response from magalena (Author of New Beginnings)
Awww... cheer up, it will get better, I promise!
Good grief, can't Harry keep his big mouth shut for once. I know he means well and yes Nott did hurt her but really its none of his concern. Severus is not Nott by any standards. Look forward to another chapter and hopefully Harry can pull both of his feet out of his mouth and explain what an idiot he has been to Hermione.
Response from magalena (Author of New Beginnings)
You're right he does mean well, and he blames himself a bit that he didn't protect her from Theo, as he had a bad feeling about that relationship from day 1. So now perhaps he's over compensating, afraid that she is on the rebound and rushing into things. Hermione feels like you, in that it is her own business, I'm sure she'll have a few choice words for Harry when she finds out!
oh no. such confusion! I love it, though. Of course I can't wait for the next chapter now!
Response from magalena (Author of New Beginnings)
I know. In Harry's defense, he is worried about Hermione getting hurt again, it's not that he doesn't like Severus. He even says he thinks they are perfect for each other. Somehow I don't think Hermione is going to appreciate his "help".
Response from mimmom (Reviewer)
Yeah, I know Harry really is being very sweet. He agonized over how he was saying things and ultimately Severus did understand Harry wasn't against them being together. Severus, though, comes up with his own solutions without consulting anyone and that's not terribly helpful. LOL. Still, it seems to be a defining Snape characteristic.
Interesting that Hermione's missing Severus, but is he missing her? I like how you've gone through and drawn on Arthur to run for Minister. Should be interesting to see how long (if at all) it takes to convince him to go for it!Looking forward to seeing what happens next!
Response from magalena (Author of New Beginnings)
Thanks. I think there's more to Arthur than meets the eye in the books, where he appears a bit bumbling. Yes, he does have a fascinations for Muggles; but he's also a man who's raised a family, took part in two wars, and held down a responsible job for many years. I think he'd be a great Minister.
Response from Jinxie (Reviewer)
Agreed. He was only about half-baked in the books.
Wow, I like how natural and at ease you've made Severus and Hermione with each other. If the story had started on this note it would be odd, but somehow it's strangely fitting - well done!
Response from magalena (Author of New Beginnings)
Thanks, I think since they do have somewhat of a shared past that it is easier for them get comfortable with each other now. And perhaps Severus is enjoying being around another magical person after living with Muggles for so long. :)
Nice to see some interaction and your facet of Harry and Hermione's friendship.
Response from magalena (Author of New Beginnings)
Thanks. I liked the relationship between Harry and Hermione. Tney stayed very close, really like family to each other.
Ah, great confrontation between Severus and Harry. Is there a building friendship or friendly acquaintance on the making?
Response from magalena (Author of New Beginnings)
Quite possibly. Harry does admire him after learning about his role, and Severus has had years to get over the annoyance Harry was to him in his youth.
Oh dear, love the by-play between Hermione and Draco. Almost wanted to see her take him up on his offer - nah. Should be interesting to see if she gets to meet "Russ" at the pub.
Response from magalena (Author of New Beginnings)
I like a teasing Draco, compared his younger self. She will be meeting Russ very soon. :)
Response from Jinxie (Reviewer)
Agreed, a more relaxed Draco is much better and more mature.
Too funny with him "stalking" her!
Response from magalena (Author of New Beginnings)
He can't help himself, it's all those years of spying.
Oh, leave it to Draco to not reveal the whole hand to her!
Response from magalena (Author of New Beginnings)
Yes, he does know something that she doesn't know. Must be driving her crazy wondering what it is. :D
Love Draco's part in the severence package for Hermione - too funny!
Response from magalena (Author of New Beginnings)
Our Draco is very good at his job! LOL
Yes I would vote for Mr. Weasley in a heart beat! I hope he decides to run that would be awesome! I can't wait to see what elese they have cooked up lol. Glad Hermione is keeping busy by wanting to finish her aunts quilt. Can't wait for the next chapter!
Response from magalena (Author of New Beginnings)
I totally agree, Arthur would make a great Minister of Magic. Hermione is making a few plans of her own, more to be revealed soon. :)
YAY. Severus is really a sweetie when it comes right down to it.
Response from magalena (Author of New Beginnings)
Thanks! I think so!
