*Now Complete* A polite romance and comedy of manners based loosely on the WIKTT 'Regency Challenge'. This is intelligent fluff, or so I would like to think. It goes on for 22 chapters and has many pairings. I hope you enjoy reading it.

Reviews for The Language of Flowers
It was nice to see an update, and so soon after I read the preface and first two chapters! I am very interested to see where this leads, and I admire the research that has gone into it. Bravo to you!
Response from Lady Strange (Author of The Language of Flowers)
The usual things will happen here - confusion, a duel, a confrontation, a rout party, a ball and so on. Thanks for your continued support of this story.
Just finished with the second (third) chapter, and I believe that this is going well! Really looking forward to an update. As to the identity of the young strawberry blonde, I have no clue. There are only three references to redheaded females in the HP books that I can think of, and they are Ginny and Molly, and once Tonks turned her hair bright red in OotP.
Response from Lady Strange (Author of The Language of Flowers)
Lady Ginevra and Lord Ronald were espied by Lord Lupin. as for the rest, ah well.... they will answered in due course.
Wow! You had me at hello! Just kidding. Anyway, interesting start to an interesting challenge. You definitely have planned things out carefully, and definitely seem to know where you're going with this. Onto the next chapter.
Response from Lady Strange (Author of The Language of Flowers)
Thank you for your kind words. It was a challenge some time back and I decided to put years of regency reading into action. glad you liked it.
Again, lovely! Another triumph! I'm looking forward to see how the couples evolve, and your treatment is once again very regency. Good job!
Response from Lady Strange (Author of The Language of Flowers)
How they evolve? oh well... true observations, my dear. what will be will be...
Ah, what a nice chapter! I'm happy that things appear to be progressing, and I like the pretense of paying court to her. I wonder what dear Draco's mum will think of the competition. Haha! I look forward to your next update and don't mind the wait. I know other things are more important!
Response from Lady Strange (Author of The Language of Flowers)
Of course things are progressing, more than you know. Lord Sterne knows more than he lets on. The Duchess of Mallefille will respond appropriately to this in the chapter with her rout party. And entre nous, it's not so much a matter of what Narcissa will think, but what the tabloids with think...
Absolutely beautiful story! I really enjoyed the Platonic journal articles.
Response from Lady Strange (Author of The Language of Flowers)
It is a delight to hear from new readers, especially since I have not written in quite a while. As I often tell my readers, I write what I know. I am very happy you took the time to read and review this modest piece.
An excellent chapter, dear. I loved the talks each had. I did especially like the kindred spirit bit with Snape and Hermione. Hehe... I love that Snape and Malfoy are fibbing to Narcissa. Sneaky! Teehee Won't Daddy Lucius be surprised!
Response from Lady Strange (Author of The Language of Flowers)
Oh yes, so id I when i wrote it. Draco loves mummy very much. and Lucius adores his wife. it will mentioned in a later chapter (i forget which) that whatever Lucius's failings he was an extremely uxorious husband.
Sorry, I was out of town for the last update, so I got updated two chapters at once, and it felt really good!
I can totally understand why your fiction is so very recommended by the maintainers of this site, you write so wonderfully and eloquently that I feel my reviews just aren't enough! This story is magnificent and captivating and perfect for the not so hidden Regency-Era Trashy Romance Novel Reader that I am. I can't wait for more updates. I can't wait to see what Lord Sterne gleans from his reflections on Lord Orthod's behavior.
Response from Lady Strange (Author of The Language of Flowers)
The avon period romance variety I presume? Alas, this is not avon-ish. It's more Heyer-ish and Austen-ish (with a touch of Edgeworth). Thank you for yr continued interested in Les Fleurs.
This chapter appears to have lost all paragraph formatting. I'd be very grateful if you fixed it. Thanks.
Response from Lady Strange (Author of The Language of Flowers)
i have been trying to fix it since 2007, but to no avail. please go to ashwnder to read t instead. i am listed under the same name there.

Again, lovely. I appreciate your attention to the details of the time, and how you've done your research. Quite good, indeed. Your weaving of the histories in is to be commended as well. Cannot wait for more! ~Fen
Response from Lady Strange (Author of The Language of Flowers)
History is one of favourite subjects. I wanted something similar in impact to Napoleanic Wars but without the Boney influence, so I adapted the war of the roses...
I liked how well you explained things, it is very informative, and was rather correct. :) Good job.
Response from Lady Strange (Author of The Language of Flowers)
I like to set down ground rules. It makes everthing much more comprehensible.
Excellent story...very well thought out and written. I enjoyed it. I especially enjoyed reading about the meanings of the flowers. Thank you! Congrats on a job well done!

thank you for supporting this fic despite all the bad press it's garnered. :) *bows deeply*

Tied up the ends nicely. Thank you for a very enjoyable read.
Response from Lady Strange (Author of The Language of Flowers)
Thank you so much for your kind reviews.
I like the way you've changed the story (Devil's Cub) and made it more complicated.
Response from Lady Strange (Author of The Language of Flowers)
*blush* I'm merely following Chaucer's example in taking something that's already written and giving it a new spin.
No vase of water then? Can't stop. More to read.
Response from Lady Strange (Author of The Language of Flowers)
No. i omitted the water part because I felt it would be too cliched.
Ooh! Sterne is so het up. Gosh, what will he do I wonder. As Miss Granger is about to ruin her reputation, I should think Sterne will feel beholden to do the honourable thing. Off to find out...
Response from Lady Strange (Author of The Language of Flowers)
Naturally, Sterne will do the honourable thing. To own the truth, I was out of inspiration for chapters 15-20. I only knew how i wanted to end the whole thing. Thank you for reading this story.
Uh,oh! Trouble brewing. I can smell it.
Response from Lady Strange (Author of The Language of Flowers)
Trouble is always brewing in a regency story (lol). i'm glad you're enjoying yourself.
What a lovely ending to a brilliant story. Thank you so much for posting this. I truly adore it. I enjoyed how everyone turned out.
Response from Lady Strange (Author of The Language of Flowers)
so did i... everything went swimmingly i dare say.
Ah but I do love a jealous Snape. Teehee
Response from Lady Strange (Author of The Language of Flowers)
It is amusing, isn't it? *grins*
Nice job with the War of the Roses/Cousins. Garswoth is an anagram of Hogwarts, and the only thing I could come up with for Dunseof is Son-Feud, a fitting name for the power struggle within the family.
Response from Lady Strange (Author of The Language of Flowers)
But of course! You have it down pat. Well done. Thank you for reviewing. :)
The titles are absolutely inspired. Sterne, Glare, Carsm-Blundt, Linchpin and Waryderry! Brilliant! Dumbledore's were great, too. Of course, Skint of Kind vies with Carsm-Blundt as my favorites. Yes, it was a long introduction, but it has prompted me to be very careful to remove any references to peerage in my own writing. I can't possibly hope to keep all those things straight (I think Americans must be genetically indisposed to comprehending the intricacies of the system), so I will go in a different diection. One thing was not readily apparent to me: What is an ape-leader?
Well done, and onward!
Response from Lady Strange (Author of The Language of Flowers)
I was sure I defined "ape-leader" somewhere. I repeat my footnotes because most of my readers do not refer back to previous notations.Ape-leader = an old maid; their punishment after death, for neglecting increase and multiply, will be, it is said, leading apes in hell.Definition taken from The 1811 Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue, originally by Francis Grose
I felt so sorry for him. I do hope she let's him explain soon. Can't wait for the next! Lovely.
Response from Lady Strange (Author of The Language of Flowers)
She'll do so 2 chapters down the road... have patience. thanks for reviewing
