yes, the poems were mine!  i really appreciate your commenting about them.  this story actually started with that first poem, but it was so sad.  so then the question became, how do we get him from despair to redemption? and that's where the rest of it came from.

i'm glad you appreciated the humor.  that particular line was inspired by a lyric from the musical "kiss me, kate," where one of the locales is referred to as things like, "that stingy, dingy menace."  who knew severus was a fan of muggle musical theater!

Yes, plot bunnies can be persistant sometimes. They often take us where we didn't plan originally. But I think you delivered it well. It flowed nicely with the story. Besides, you have to show how pushy Hermione can be, *g* ;)

exactly so.  i'm so glad you got that!  that means i must have done something right.  i think my favorite part about writing is how you start with an idea, and then sometimes it runs off in a completely unexpected direction.  this one started with the first poem, and then i asked, 'well, how do i get from despair to redemption?' and this is what happened.  thanks for your kind words.  : D
