Drama Angst compliant post-DH/DH Potter Place's Post DH Prompt Challenge 5,521 Words 1 Chapter Complete
Harry Potter Hermione Granger Minerva McGonagall Ronald Weasley Severus Snape

"It seemed as if in the end the only things Severus Snape had been able to retain were his life and his dignity, and even those had been stripped from him roughly in his last moments. He hadn’t even been given a glorious champion’s death for his troubles. She’d never get through this if she kept dwelling on that sort of thought, and she refused to leave the poor man as he was. She was going to clean him up, seal up his wounds and take him back to Hogwarts; back to his home. After all he’d done, he deserved that much. They owed him that much."

A 30-something aspiring romance novelist shamelessly (and obsessively) devoted to Harry Potter and many other geeky fandoms. I ship mostly Hermione/Snape and Harry/Hermione, but have been known to dabble in others.

DH compliant fics usually don't bring tears to my eyes... this was hard to read because of the severity of my sniffling by the end. It was a fitting tribute to canon Snape and a beautiful fic.

Well, so much for that mascara... (tears running down my face) Wow, that was beautiful. Even though I REFUSE to accept Snape's death, if it had happened, this is how it SHOULD have happened. I definitely see why this won an award. It was lovely and moving and perfect. Thank you very much for posting it, Cat

I ran across this and had to give it a read.  I try to avoid book seven compliant ficts because of Severus's sad end.  He deserved much better than what Jo gave him.  Although this fiction was sad, it was still beautiful.

That was beautiful beyond words. It brought a few tears to my eye. Finally, a fitting send-off to one of the most touching anti-heroes in fiction. Unfortunately, now that I've read this story, I can no longer live in denial of his death. But the sacrifice is worth it, because this is the honorable memorial service I could ever hope for him to have had. Thank you.

Thank you so much for those incredible words of praise. I feel very much the same way you do; and even though I'd like to stick my fingers in my ears, whistle, and pretenc he's not dead (which I do, through the rest of my fan fic ^_^ ), this was the one acknowledgement I really felt he deserved. Thanks for reading and reviewing!

that was beautiful. I think that was a very nice and very proper ending for poor Severus.

I enjoyed this bittersweet tribute to Snape.

Response from LadyTuesday (Author of Exanimus Virtutis: A Hero’s Goodbye)

Thank you!  I enjoyed it too ... he was a sad man who received a sad end to his life, but I think I gave him a nice balance of hope, honor, and tribute.  Thanks for reading and reviewing!  Make sure to vote for my story!

Thanks for providing the tribute so sadly lacking in DH.  And for making me cry!

This was a very wonderful and touching epilogue for Severus. A scene I really would have liked to have seen in the book. I know JKR didn't like him, and he was still a bit selfish in the end, but he did do the right thing. Thank you for this and the tear it brought to my eye.

I loath the ending of DH...I honestly think that Severus should have been able to live, but if he had to die then I think you have found the best way possible to provide him closure.Beautifully written.  Irish

Your writing on this story was fabulous.  I don't read stories like this, with dead Severus or ghost Severus.  I cried through the whole thing.  To have him honored this way was what Rowling should have done.  Thank you.

You are such a skilled writer. The books may have ended, but the story continued. I can easily imagine this scene in the aftermath of the final battle. This piece was a fitting tribute to Severus Snape that left me in tears. Thank you.

Beautiful. I've been avoiding, mostly, the completely canon-compliant fics regarding Snape - as I'd much rather see him saved and alive! - but in a universe where he did die, I'd like to see that he did, indeed, get a goodbye fitting for a hero.It did make me bawl and cry into my dinner plate, but the food was too dry anyway. A wonderfully written piece.

I did really enjoy this story. Thanks for writing it. It was beautiful and befitting to the events in DH. We all wish he had lived, but he did not, and it was nice to read about his goodbye. I really liked the doe leading the falcon home at the end. The falcon was a good choice. =)

Thanks again for writing such a moving story.

That was deeply touching. Especially Harry's speech.

You made me cry, dammit!

Oh I do that too where I go from fine to panic in 3 seconds over something forgotten. Although I have yet to forget a potion master!Thank you mystery author

Response from LadyTuesday (Author of Exanimus Virtutis: A Hero’s Goodbye)

You're welcome, not-so-mystery reviewer ^_^ ... I do the calm to panic in three seconds flat, also and being both rather intelligent and rather emotional just like Hermione, I felt it a fitting response for her.  Especially given the fact that the strain they'd been through that night would make anyone a tad forgetful.  Thanks for reading and reviewing!

thanks for writing and sharing this. it helps to fill in the huge gaping hole that some of us felt at the end of book 7, and gives the man the send off he surely earned.

Response from LadyTuesday (Author of Exanimus Virtutis: A Hero’s Goodbye)

Thank you for the kind words. I feel the same way about the 'gaping hole' at the end of book seven .... Unlike a lot of Sevvie fans, I can understand why she killed him (I mean, let's face it: he's not a happily-ever-after kind of character), but—much like Hermione in my fic—I can't believe she 'just left him there.' So this is my way of giving him what he deserved.

Thanks so much for reading and especially for reviewing!

Response from kittylefish (Reviewer)

yeah, i always figured he'd die, but i thought it would be a little more heroic. okay, so a lot more heroic, not nearly so senseless, and to just leave him there like that felt rather heartless and cruel. in fact, that was what propelled me into this whole world of fanfic, so i guess i can't completely regret it, because what a fun world it is!

Fantastic death fic, and this is the send off Snape should have got in the ruddy book.  Well done!

Response from LadyTuesday (Author of Exanimus Virtutis: A Hero’s Goodbye)

Thank you! I agree ... he deserved the hero's goodbye, so I gave it to him, darn it! Thanks for reading and reviewing!
