"It seemed as if in the end the only things Severus Snape had been able to retain were his life and his dignity, and even those had been stripped from him roughly in his last moments. He hadn’t even been given a glorious champion’s death for his troubles. She’d never get through this if she kept dwelling on that sort of thought, and she refused to leave the poor man as he was. She was going to clean him up, seal up his wounds and take him back to Hogwarts; back to his home. After all he’d done, he deserved that much. They owed him that much."

A 30-something aspiring romance novelist shamelessly (and obsessively) devoted to Harry Potter and many other geeky fandoms. I ship mostly Hermione/Snape and Harry/Hermione, but have been known to dabble in others.
Reviews for Exanimus Virtutis: A Hero’s Goodbye
Oh my God...I absolutely cried. Now THAT would have been a fitting end to Severus Snape if JK had allowed it. Well done!

Thank you, I'm so glad you think so. I like to think that this is the 'last hurrah', so to speak, that he deserved. Thanks for reading and reviewing.

Such a beautiful good bye to one of the unsung heroes. I could only wish that his final farewell had been as wonderful.

Thank you for your kind words. This piece was just my little way of giving him the honor he deserved. Thanks for reading.

That was wonderful. I did enjoy it indeed. So moving. I would like to hope that something like this DID happen, and I would have had it written just like this!

Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I, too, hope that this was something like what he actually got and we just didn't have time to 'see' in the novel. Thanks for reading.

Thank you so much for your kind words! I have to admit, I do enjoy writing the tear-jerkers *guilty smile*. I'm glad you approve of the use of a falcon ... it just seemed to fit to me. Thanks again for reading and for leaving me such a nice message!

You haven't changed the books one bit. You haven't made schoolgirl-Hermione secretly in love with Snape, (I thank you for that!) You have added something lovely and moving, and very fitting. This SHOULD have been in Deathly Hallows!
Response from LadyTuesday (Author of Exanimus Virtutis: A Hero’s Goodbye)
Thank you for your kind words. Yes, I agree completely that making schoolgirl-Hermione secretly in love is not only totally unfounded in canon, it's totally unbelieveable! I happen to write SS/HG and one of my biggest pet peeves is the "Oh, I've secretly been in love/lust with you all these years!" nonsense.
And I'm truly flattered that you believe this should have been in Deathly Hallows ... no greater compliment! Thanks for reading and reviewing.

I came back to read this again, and read the reviews that people wrote after I did. I wanted tto say something that occured to me: maybe JKR left him there on purpose, so we fan fiction fans could resusitate him at will. Do you think? It's a nice thought. (I want to believe)
Response from LadyTuesday (Author of Exanimus Virtutis: A Hero’s Goodbye)
It is a nice thought. I found it odd, myself, that she never even mentioned in passing how/whether someone went to retrieve him; I figured that she counted on us knowing that Harry would go back for him, but with all the other hullaballoo going on, how can we be sure? It's possible that she left him that way so that we could invent his story ourselves. Thanks again for your thoughtful responses.

You made me cry.
Response from LadyTuesday (Author of Exanimus Virtutis: A Hero’s Goodbye)
I'm sorry to hear that, but I gather that it was the 'good' kind of crying. Thanks for reading and reviewing!
Response from blue artemis (Reviewer)
Oh, yes, it was cathartic. And a well-written story to boot. It is just hard to review when attached to a Kleenex.

"He hadn’t even been given a glorious champion’s death for his troubles. " Isn't that the sad, sad truth!
Hermione's actions were so touching, as were the boys' reactions. The falcon was a very nice choice.
I'm glad for what you had Minerva say - yes, he was private, but he needed acknowledgement and appreciation, too.
Response from LadyTuesday (Author of Exanimus Virtutis: A Hero’s Goodbye)
Thank you so much for your praise. Hermione's always been my favorite head to crawl into, as far as POV goes in fan fic, and I think her actions were as true as I could make them. I'm glad you liked the falcon; I think it suits him. And I like to think that Minerva was a wonderful mix of mother, friend and good-natured rival to him, so I believe that she and Dumbledore would have known best how much he needed love, appreciation and acknowledgement.
Thanks so much for reading and reviewing!

Very touching. Beautiful sendoff. I prefer to think of Snape as having survived the war, but since in canon he didn't you have written the best possible ending for him. Thanks for sharing, JoAnne
Response from LadyTuesday (Author of Exanimus Virtutis: A Hero’s Goodbye)
Thank you so much for your praise. I like to think of him surviving too, but if he had to go out, darn it, he should go out in style! Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Beautiful. I just did an AR marathon of Somthing the Lord Made and Snowcake, so I was already primed to cry. Your words were a fitting finale for my marathon, and for the canon "reality" that we've all chosen to blissfully ignore. Excellent job.
Response from LadyTuesday (Author of Exanimus Virtutis: A Hero’s Goodbye)
Hehehehe. Thanks for the praise of this little extension to the 'reality' we happily pretend doesn't exist. I'm sorry that it made you sad, but it sounds like a good sad ^_^ . Thanks for reading and reviewing!

This has got to be the most touching and emotional fic covering this specific topic that I've ever read. Well done! *sniffle*
