Well, Hermione being the good girl with good grades and  morals that she is (oops, unless you count her special hobby in this story - but he only finds out about that later), it would not be in character if she took her revenge on a Mudblood-hater in this way. And Lucius is a good judge of character, so he would not expect her to do so, I suppose. If she wanted revenge, the ultimate revenge and humiliation for him might be that he had to accept her help now. Also, she works for the Ministry, so she would probably have to show the books regularly. In short, it just did not occur to me that he would ask her that - will keep the suggestion in mind! In my eyes he's more of an opportunist and a seducer: not intrinsically evil, but quite nice at times, which makes it much more convincing that Hermione should find him attractive.
