It is the last day of Hermione's apprenticeship with Potions master Severus Snape, and neither is pleased with the way things have gone. It seems too late for anything to change that.

Ooh, tangy. I liked the possibilities you have left open with this.

Thank you. "Tangy" is a great word!

I grew tired of reviewing with just "nice", "great", and "loved it".
XD

Originality is always appreciated. I get tired of responding with "Thank you, I'm glad you liked it", but I can't always think of something else to say.

I do so love stories told from multiple viewpoints. All in favor of post graduate research raise your hand.~Waves hand frantically like an eleven year old Hermione~

Research is always a good thing. Post-graduate research on the viability of Potions-master-Know-it-all relationships is beyond good! ;D
I'm glad you liked it.
i enjoyed this story very much. i liked the way you structured it with the time increments, and seeing it all from each of their perspectives. and the possibiility of a happy outcome always makes me happy. very nicely done.

I'm so glad you liked it. I actually started with the idea of the time increments, and built the story around that. Feel free to assume tha the outcome was very very happy for all concerned.
I liked it...a unexplored future....
Response from a_bees_buzz (Author of One More)
It does leave open a world of possibilities. I'm pleased you liked that.
They are going to research each other. Right?
Response from a_bees_buzz (Author of One More)
Intimately, one hopes. ;-)
Actually, I imagine they'll start by "researching" their feelings towards one another and exploring their basic compatability before they get to the really interesting research. But I don't imagine that it will take very long.
Does Dumbledore know portraits can be slashed? Good story.
Response from a_bees_buzz (Author of One More)
Or worse. I once wrote a story where Hermione threatened to have him repainted by a modern artist.
Glad you liked it.
Response from FruGal (Reviewer)
Where can I find that story. It sounds interesting.
Response from a_bees_buzz (Author of One More)
It's archived here. It's called Timing.
Response from FruGal (Reviewer)
Thanks. I enjoyed that story, too.
Ah, I'm glad to see you uploaded this here! Very nice to reread it. I really love the decreasing increments of time you use. They create a lovely rhythm. And the assessment of Dumbledore is spot on.
“He’s generally half right.” “Precisely.” “The question is, which half? Do you know?”
So true!
Response from a_bees_buzz (Author of One More)
Thank you, my dear. I'm very glad to hear you think I got Dumbledore right. Since he doesn't actually get to speak for himself, there's no chance to explain his motives, which makes it particularly important that his actions seem plausible as they stand.
Hmm. I am sorry but, this seems to leave me unfulfilled. I cannot imagine Albus extracting such an oath. The man believed in love and that Severus deserved happiness. This seems to deny him. Perhaps a sequel would turn things around? Irish
Response from a_bees_buzz (Author of One More)
I'm not sure where you find evidence that Dumbledore believed that Severus deserved happiness, I don't see that in the books.
Did Dumbledore believe in love? Maybe. He certainly spoke as if he did, but then, he was telling Harry what he thought Harry needed to hear to fulfill his destiny and go off to die. Even if we take Dumbles' statements on love at face value, he never spoke of romantic love - only the love of a parent for a child and between friends. Dumbles' own experience of romantic love (if you buy into the JKR interviews) was with a Dark lord he eventually killed. Not exactly a positive, uplifiting experience.
So I'm not convinced that Dumbles was a fan of romance. I am, however, certain that he was concerned with the reputation of Hogwarts, and a having a professor at the school sexually involved with an apprentice would be scandalous in the conservative wizarding world. I am also certain that he would choose to impose his solution on the problem rather than trust Severus to handle it on his own. Canon Dumbledore was always completely certain of his own judgment and put his schemes into place without considering alternatives or the costs to those around him.
I'm sorry you were disappointed in the story. I think you and I may have very different views of Dumbledore. I see the manipulative bastard far more than the benevolent father-figure he played at.
Response from irishredlass (Reviewer)
I apologize if I left you thinking I was disappointed in the story itself. I am not.I do agree with you on the manipulative behavior that Dumbledore embodied. I honestly do not see him as a benevolent father but, trying to atone for all of his own sins through kindness. As to Cannon and love look to the end of Half Blood Prince.....in the hospital wing. Again the story itself was and is good. Just a different tone than what I am accustomed to, but there is nothing wrong with presenting an original idea. Irish
Response from a_bees_buzz (Author of One More)
No need to apologize. I like honest discussion of stories - if you have an issue with one of mine, I would much rather hear about it. If we don't consider alternative viewpoints, how can we learn anything and grow as writers?
I'm not sure what you mean about the scene in HBP, since Dumbledore isn't there. Minerva claims to speak for him, but that's hardly conclusive. One can question both the accuracy of her interpretation of him (has she been taken in all these years by his benevolent act and is idealizing his memory?) and her honesty at that moment (is it Minerva who wants Tonks and Remus to be together?)
I'm pleased that you liked the story, despite your issues with it.
Interesting, to say the least. Does a promise to a portrait have to hold?
Response from a_bees_buzz (Author of One More)
I'm sure Dumbledore would find a way to make sure it was. If Severus made an oath, it wouldn't matter who he made it to.
Thanks for reviewing.
