Have you ever wondered why Snape made that unbreakable vow to Narcissa without hesitation? A series of vignettes, illustrating how a sympathetic Slytherin prefect helped a scared, awkward first year adjust to the realities of life in Slytherin House, suggest a possible answer... (Before we get the real one and all this speculation is shot.)

Mostly Harmless! Though I have to admit, I'm even stranger than I appear. ;-) There's a pile of unbeta'd stuff on my LJ (dracfic) if you're interested in Raw, Untamed, fanfic.
Believe it or not, "How Argus Filch Got Wild, Got Laid, and Got His Magic" has been rec'ed by Know It Alls! It's true! They gave me this pretty lil' ribbon and everything! And in March 2007, they saw fit to likewise reccommend (as an antidote to angst) the story that started it all, 'Courtesy of Your Fairy God-Jarvey'--just in time for the first anniversary of that story's posting! *hugs Harm*
(I also have to admit that 'mostly harmless' may not be the most apt description of a member of the Mad Chatters...)
Finally, I just have to say... Storyville. If you were there, you know what I mean.Reviews for For His Angel
"A face only a mother bird could love", and Narcissa as a mother bird. A wonderful picture of Severus as ugly duckling, destined to grow up to be anything other than a swan, and Narcissa with her strong mother instincts. Very nice little summary of their relationship through the many years that they have known each other!

*bows* Thank you kindly. I could not imagine a young Severus as looking like anything so much as a rather unfortunate baby bird given his description in canon; and even with the limited canon information available when I wrote this, it seemed obvious that Narcissa was a very protctive mother.

I love this story. I love the ending in particular since you sum everything up so well. I so like Severus's frustration over Harry. I always did think the obvious things the two of them have in common must have been so frustrating for Severus to see, and adding Draco to the context was pure genius.

I understand that you recommended this story at the LJ community one_bad_man. Thank you so very kindly for the review and the recommendation! * is humbled*
What a delightful interpretation of canon! In fanfic it's common to see Lucius as Snape's benefactor, but I like this interpretation better. I found it quite believable that Narcissa would look out for a fellow Slytherin like this, and Snape's loyalty to her was touching. All in all, it's a much better explanation for Snape's history as a DE and his willingness to protect Draco than we got in canon. This story was recced at the LJ community one_bad_man, and I'm so glad, because I probably wouldn't have found it otherwise.

Thank you kindly for reviewing--and also for alerting me to the existance of one_bad_man. I was never satisfied with the assumption that self-serving Lucius would sponsor talented-but-unpedigreed Snape; Narcissa, being an unknown quantity, seemed to me a better candidate to cast in that role, and that was the seed from which the story grew.
I'm so glad I came across this - absolutely wonderful.
Response from dracontia (Author of For His Angel)
Thank you kindly! I only wish that I'd had more time to refine it before the last book came out & blew everything out of the water...
This is very thoughtfully written, and in some ways I wish some of this had happened in the books. It would have been good for Snape to have an ally who was more concerned for him... The comparison/contrasts between the two boys was extremely interesting. ;)

Thank you! I'm glad that you found it enjoyable--just wish I'd had a bit more time to polish it before D-day.
(I'm glad that I wasn't the only one who felt a bit let down to discover that Snape was actually Charlie Brown, eternally hung up on the Little Redheaded Girl. *sigh*)
Response from athenakt (Reviewer)
A-hahaha! I hadn't thought of him that way; that's so wrong but unfortunately accurate. Heh heh. Poor Snape.
Nice again... A bit sad this time... I hope there will be some funny stuff again from you...

Every now and then, a plot bunny hops along that is less fluffy than the rest. But I don't mean to make a habit of indulging them. I'm glad you found something to enjoy in it anyway!Regarding comedy--from all the spoilers I've heard, I understand that the final book was a pile of misery. Regina and I have been commissioned (by the powers vested in The Usual Suspects of The Petulant Poetess Chat Room, no less) to come to the fandom's rescue. Unfortunately, this may mean that we are actually forced to read the final book, in order to understand just how much damage needs fixing. But never fear, we have a plan! Reggie and dracontia: Happily Ever After, and no cheesy epilogues. (Sorry, I've heard some very disparaging remarks about the epilogue! LOL)
Response from saschia (Reviewer)
I am quite sure that you will be able to fix any and all damage which needs fixing. Best by making Reggie appear in midbite (Hermiona's, of course), or, well, in any other situation.
wow.well worth reading as a prelude...quite a beautiful and skillful interpretation even though it may not be what the Headmistress has in mind.now i think it is about time to take cover.over and out
Response from dracontia (Author of For His Angel)
Thank you! I'm glad that you thought it had some literary merit, even if its predictive value was probably about Trelawney-grade. (haven't read 7, but haven't avoided spoilers, either.)I hope the taking cover business worked out for you. I was travelling (oh, happy time!) during the whole buildup and the book release itself, so I heard rumors and viewed it all with amused detatchment. Judging by the comments on Potter Place (now that I've finally plowed through a week's worth of emails), I was right to get this out before the DH bomb dropped! lol.
Response from wizardrowling (Reviewer)
Actually my cover was breached - by the most unexpected improbable source (of course). All in all, damage was minimal and fortunately the magic was not lost. Watch out for Trelawney - she absolutely rocks!
Response from dracontia (Author of For His Angel)
hee hee... I've been reading the spoilers... actually, it sounds like she bowls! Go, Sybill! (and, while I'm at it, hooray for Neville! He's always been my fave, and glad he got to finally prove what I've known all along... he's made of heroic stuff.)
Wow!
Nicely woven, beautiful characterization – you made each one so real… and I like the depth you gave Narcissa.
Response from dracontia (Author of For His Angel)
Thank you very much. I think Narcissa doesn't really get enough credit in fanfic. *sigh* See you on the other side--assuming there is fanlife after book 7!
It's so much fun to see all the clues in canon pulled together in such a very different way. The imagery of little Severus as an ugly baby bird inspiring Narcissa to feel protective is wonderful, and I like the way it comes full circle, to Snape becoming the protector. Well done!
Response from dracontia (Author of For His Angel)
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Sometimes I think canon's a bit of a rorshach test, and fanfic is the response to the blot, isn't it?
Funny... I'm listening to "What I've Done" from Linkin Park at the moment...So beautiful and sad.But I still love how you incorporate the funny:From a very young age, Severus Snape had a pretty good idea that he was completely screwed. And (insert farewell until the end of book 7 here).:-D
Response from dracontia (Author of For His Angel)
Ah, mi amiga, I shall have to look up that particular song. Just from the title, it sounds appropriate...It never pays to let go your sense of humor. After all, the wittiest last words tend be remembered best. (Take, for instance, Oscar Wilde. Of the ugly yellow wallpaper in the hotel room where he died, he said: 'Well, one of us had to go.')Thank you for staying with me on the journey. See you on the other side! (I'll bring the drinks.)
Narcissa was just as abused as Severus, to be brought up in a family, where it is almost fatal to show love for anyone or anything, must have been as soul destroying, as being brought up in a loveless and violent home ,as Severus was,
A beautifully told story , of two people finding comfort in friendship, even if they couldn't show it to anyone but eachother.
Response from dracontia (Author of For His Angel)
Thank you kindly! I was never entirely satisfied with the execution of this one, though I still stand by the premise.
Response from mick42 (Reviewer)
It is executed beautifully, you are your own worst critic, I am a very big fan of all your work.
