Severus has just five days to make Hermione his. But he also has a murder to solve. Can he do it in time? Or will his partner, Draco Malfoy, get the girl?
Complete AU. Does exactly what it says on the tin (and no funny business).

DHW (definition): more commonly described as pale and uninteresting. Possesses a modicum of rather dry wit. Appearence usually resembles something that has been dragged backwards through a few hedgerows. Intelligent, though not brilliant. Officially employed as junior Mad Scientist, complete with minions. Oooh, a detective story, and a love story! I'm loving it already! Come on Snapey, we're cheering for you all ready, don't let Malfoy get the girl!
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
Haha. Thank you.I swear he'll try his best. Thank you for your review. :D
Squee! I didn't know you were writing a multi-chaptered fic!!! Harry Potter meets CSI! I love it! *puts it in favorites*
I love the detached way you write the crime scene, it created just the right feel. THe interaction between the characters was professional and yet there is obviously an undercurrent of something more. I love that Draco has given Severus an ultimatum. Let's see what Severus does with that.
Can't wait for more!!

I used to write for the CSI fandom before I came to HP, so I've had this idea floating around my head for a while. It was originally going to be one of my cases for CSI, but I twisted it a little and decided to have some fun. I'm glad you're enjoying it. I do write a bit of long fiction, but mostly just the drabbles for GrangerSnape100. I get bored with long fics after a while and wander off. Plus, here there is no one to give em a kick up the arse and tell me to get moving when I don't update. The next bit is waiting for validation, so you won't have to wait long. Thank you for your review. :D
When I was in college, my favorite class was Mystery Fiction. We read 2 novels a week that started out in the same tone as this. I was hooked right away. Excellent beginning. Will the updates be regular? Hugs, Muggle Mom
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
I can't promise the updates will be regular, but I should have the story updated within a reasonable time limit (unlike some of my others). The next chapter is just waiting to be validated, so you won't have to wait long for that. I'm glad your enjoying it. It's the first time I've writen an non-CSI related mystery, so I'm quite nervous as to how it will turn out. Thank you for your lovely review.
Can be very interesting. I look forward to reading more of your story. I will ofcourse like to know who the murdereer is, but also if Draco really wants Hermione or if he knows that Severus needed a kick in the but before he made any moves?Update soon!!!
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
Thank you. Haha, it is all one big mystery, so I'm afraid you'll just have to wait and see. Otherwise I'll ruin the entire plot. The next chapter is just waiting to be validated, so it shouldn't be long. Thank you for your lovely review.
Nice start. The plot is intriguing, and I am quite looking forward to seeing where it's headed.
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
Thank you. I hope you will enjoy the rest of the story. Thank you for your lovely review.
CSI meets HP? LOL! Love it, keep it coming...
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
I used to write for the CSI fandom before HP, and this idea's been in the pipeline for a long time. I'm glad you're enjoying it. The next chapter is just waiting to be validated now...Thank you for your lovely review.
Excellent! I just know I'm going to like this. You have me hooked!
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
Awww, thank you. I just hope I don't dissapoint. Thank you for your lovely review. :D
A detective and love story...awesome!
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
Awww, thank you. I'm glad you like it.
Oh my, what a charmer, I don't know how Hermione managed to stay in her seat! Another great chapter, I really love this story, and again, brilliant technical stuff, well done you!Oh, and I'm glad Ron's in the clear, what about Malfoy though? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
Thank you. It's been so long since I had this much fun writing. Hmmmm, I'm giving nothing away. It's up to you to decide. Follow the evidence...Thanks for the review. I'm glad you're still enjoying it. :)
a thick slice of gammon (What's this)? I like the romance but I really want to find out who the killer is.Wonderful story
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
Gammon is like thick bacon. It's a common dish in most pubs and is usually served with either veg or chips and with gravy and a runny egg. I'm glad you like the romance. I'm finding that a little tricky. And thank you. I'm glad you're still enjoying the story. :)
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
Soon, soon, soon...
Severus was doing so well. What happened to his confidence? It looks like he had a panic attack. Poor guy, he's got it bad. I hope Hermione realizes how much power she holds over Severus and cuts him some slack.
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
I think he needs to work a little on wooing the ladies ;)I hope she does too. And thank you for the review. I'm glad you're still enjoying it.
I've been enjoying this a lot so far. The mystery and technical side of the story are insteresting, and the character dynamics are wonderful. I'm glad Severus finally took some initiative.
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
Thank you. I'm glad you liked the chapter. And I'm glad that you're still finding the mystery interesting. Hmmm, it's hermione's turn to take some initiative next...Thanks for the review. :)
Another great chapter. I am so happy that Severus got up the courage to put the moves on Hermione...well, sort of anyway. No suspects...tough cases are always the most intriguing. Nice writing!
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
Thank you. I'm glad you liked the chapter. :)Hehe, oh that Severus. He's such a closet romantic *snort*There'll be a bit of a breakthrough in the next chapter, on both fronts ;)Thanks for the review.
There were two teams with that colour of red. And a found cat hair and a missing team mascot. Hmmm, I wonder who would take a mascot? Rival team, maybe? I am looking forward to more--with a few notable exceptions, the actual 'mystery' genre is so rarely found in fantasy fanfiction.
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
There were, but the fibre has already been matched to Ron's robes with a positive magical identity. I do admire your guessing skills. That was my original mystery, but I changed it when I found I'd missed a crucial piece of evidence. Besides, I never said the hair was feline. *gives out virtual chocolate bar for great detective work*I bet you're going to guess the culprit before day five. More virtual chocolate if you do. :)Thank you for your review. I'm glad your enjoying the mystery. :)
Finally, he made a move! Yea Severus! As usual supurb crime sceen investigation.
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
Yea Severus, indeed. Perhaps he'll pluck up the courage to do something a little more risky in the next chapter... or mabye Hermione will ;)Thank you for the lovely review. I'm glad you're still enjoying it.
Great story... we need an update soon! Please... *cough*
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
Thank you. I'm glad you're still enjoying it. I'm hoping the next chapter will be up sooner than the last one. I haddn't intended for it to take that long -- I had a lot of trouble finding a new beta. More soon, promise.Thank you for the review.
I like it so far! Can't wait to see the next update.
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
Thank you. I'm glad you like it. :)More comming soon.
Fabulous chapter, my dear! The mystery is compelling (so glad it wasn't Ron, not that I ever thought it was him), and Severus being "charming" ... OMG. Perfection! Nicely done! I look forward to more!
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
Why thank you. Would I ever do that to ron?... probably. lol. But not this time. I've been kind. :)I'm glad you liked it. I was a little worried about the whole charming thing. It took a while to get it to fit. Hehe, I hope you'll like the next bit. Hermione has a little something up her sleeve in the next chapter. ;)Thanks for the lovely review.
At last, they make some progress in the right direction!
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
Indeed they do. They've been beating about the bush for far too long. THanks for the review. :D
What fun! I love the gritty, PI feel you're bringing to it!
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
Thank you. I'm glad you're enjoying it so far. :)
More fun! I love how SS is feeling the pressure from DM - it adds a nice layer of personal tension to what is already a tense story due to needing to solve the murder.
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
Thanks. I'm trying (and hopefully not failing) to keep the murder as the main focus of the story, and the whole DM thing more of a sub-plot, as I think the story might be more effective that way. I'm glad you're still enjoying it and not bored to tears. I hope you will enjoy the next chapter. :)
This is a great story. Love the CSI sort of background to it - very intriguing. It's great that it's not set up in the usual Hogwarts/Voldemort scenario. Keep it up
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
Thanks. I'm glad you're enjoying it so far. I used to be part of the CSI fandom before this, so I adapted a case I already had planned. Making it magical was a bit tricky, but I hope *crosses fingers* I managed to make it a little convincing...Thank you for the lovely review. I hope you will enjoy the next chapter too. :)
C'mon Severus--Fortune favors the bold.
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
I think he needs a bit of a kick up the arse, don't you? Thanks for the review. :)
ohhhh so close! you can do it severus!hehe cant wait until the next update
Response from bound_by_passion (Author of The Waiting Game)
Well, chapter three is already in it's first draft phase, so hopefully not that long. I'm glad you're enjoying it. Thank you for your review. :)
