Someone who really, REALLY ought to be doing something else, but just keeps on writing.
Wondering why my stories take forever? Have a look at My Other Time Devourer: www.willametteartcenter.com I'm both the webmaster and the president of the Friends of the Visual Arts, a 501-C3 nonprofit in Salem, Oregon. We Put The Fun Back In Art.
Having 2 sweet little boys tends to drag things out too.
And what the heck, as long as it's self-pimpage time: If you just can't wait for the next chapter of Fair Ex, you can always go buy my book. It's not HP or fanfic but it's got that Fawkesy snark (in spades) It's here: www.turondo.com Warning: there's a bad word in the title.

Excellently done. Rather too much description for my taste, but I am shackled by the inability to visuaize, and therefore dislike detailed descriptions of phsyical stuff.Incredible original tale and good holding of Fawkes's interesting point of view. Really well done, surprized you didn't get more reviews.

Thanks. *shrug* It was written as a Gauntlet Challenge at MNFF, so it's kind of weird in that respect. I like it, though.

Very interesting. I especially like his thoughts on words:
Words distract me and frustrate me. They crush reality into inadequate little boxes and fit those together like so many bricks, constructing a ramshackle representation and calling it "truth."
But I'm a little confused with how he thinks books a path to Truth then since books are comprised of words.

I think the idea is that individual words spoken hastily at any given time are a poor substitute for really communicating. But, once written and revised over time, and thus becoming the product of many minds, they can come as close to Truth as mortals can hope to get.

I feel similarly about it all. Language shapes the way we think, but it is our only means of expressing ideas. I think it takes carefull crafting of what we have to work with, but we can then create something that transcends the limitations of language.

From a neurological perspective, our brains are hardwired to learn language, as though it IS the "way we think," a tool that uses US, rather than the other way around. When you think about how we acquire words and associate our own nuances and emotional overtones with them, it's a miracle we can communicate at all, really.
You really give Fawkes an amazing dimension.

Thanks! I'm kinda fond of old Fawkesie.
Interesting aspect, taking the view of Fawkes. It is a wonder as to where such a loyal bird would be when such an event could take place. Very interesting set of circumstances you placed before him to be distracted within the Ministry. Nicely done.

Thanks! Yeah, just my way of trying to cover up a plot gap in canon...
Wow, deep dude. I love your inroduction to the alien working of the mind of an immortal being. It's very profound. Nice ending too.

Thanks! It was a brief tribute to Stanislaw Lem/Harlan Ellison, writing that.
