I have loved the written word since watching my mother’s fingers trace the lines of a book, luxuriating in riveting tales and well-turned phrases. Many a night I read until dawn, a plastic flashlight hidden under the covers to light the pages as I raced the rising sun to finish my latest must-read.
Since joining the HP fandom, I've been privileged to receive more than 50 awards, including Best Author (Quill to Parchment Awards) and Best Classic Author (Most Potente Passions). Among others, my stories have won awards for Best Hurt/Comfort (Spoils of War, Morning Has Broken), Best Novel Length (Calling Card, Guard…Check…Mate), Best One Shot (A Beach in Ireland), Best WIP (Saving a Death Eater, The Summoning), Favorite Overall Story (Complexities), and Readers’ Choice (A Quest of Paladins).
Aside from a judicious polish for formatting and egregious typos, I don't plan on revising my early work. Those stories are the stepping stones of my writing journey. Please note some stories contain adult content. None is more graphic than equivalent scenes in the television shows True Blood or Game of Thrones, and age appropriate warnings are posted.
I no longer write fanfiction prolifically. Like many fanfic authors, my focus has shifted to original work. A member of the Romance Writers of America and the Southern California Writers Association, I write under my name: Lin Thornhill.
My original story Verisimilitude published in Thoroughly Modern Monsters (Story Spring Publishing, 2013) reached the top 100 fantasy anthologies and broke into the top 10 in the UK the first month of release. Ben and Christine’s story will continue in 2016.
Fixation, my latest short story, slated for publication in J. Aldis’ anthology Immanence, with a winter 2015-2016 release, is particularly exciting as it anchors the Messengers of Inari novel series I’ve been developing for the past year.

Reviews for The Three Rs
Lovely, lovely relationship you've developed here. I love to see how their trust and knowledge of each other is growing--they seem like such a couple. I would happily read more tales of your Viktor and Hermione. You did a wonderful job of taking us to Brazil and the World Cup Finals in this chapter. Thanks for sharing this delightful story.
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Especially for the 'couple' remark. I wanted to show how easily they mesh despite everything; how organic their pairing could be.
Lovely back story and relationship progression for the pair of them. I'm really curious about Hermione's injuries.
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
This was a fun AU to pursue; I especially enjoyed pairing Ginny with Oliver Wood. I don't think Ginny and Harry are a good pairing, but I don't want her to be unhappy either.Poor Hermione. I think that injury was a defining moment for her in many ways, and influenced her choice of careers. Thanks, as always.
I love the way you set up a story. I don't read much VK/HG (and I know you don't write much VK/HG), but I love how you've delineated each of their points of view and how time and distance have affected their earlier friendship/romance.
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
Shall I say ditto?
Response from Prof M McGonagall (Reviewer)
My touchpad was a little jumpy that day (or my hand) and accidentally posted twice. I couldn't figure out a way to delete it, so there you go--two reviews. :)

My apologies for replying so late to this lovely review. I'm so pleased you're enjoying my first and pretty much only foray into VK/HG (although I think there's so much promise in the dynamic). I was inspired by Rozarka (Thimble Kiss, now) and her stunning work in this pairing. Thanks so much for giving the story a chance.
I'm notoriously forgetful when it comes to leaving reviews, my apologies. But I've rec'd you for TPP, so I'll leave that rec here - you've earned the kudos! <3"They say absence make the heart grow fonder--sometimes, it also makes the head grow wiser. Wonderful characterization, handled as deftly as it is gentle, is the core of this story. You won't be disappointed."
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
You might be notoriously forgetful, Juni, but I'm woefully late in responding. Thank you very very much for recommending this story! I'm delighted you enjoyed my first (and only, really) venture into Viktor/Hermione-land.
Congratulations!!! This is my first VK/HG and I simply loved it! Kisses =]
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
I know this is very late, but thank you very much for taking a chance on my VK/HG story and letting me know you enjoyed it.
Feeling rather sad, my birthday tomorrow, I still have over 10 College assignments to hand in. And now I am being accused by one reviewer that I have copied a story plot.
So, I took a whole glass of very good red, tried to solve my problem with regards a fanfic (some reviewer has stated that I have rewritten a story of Veela Draco and Harry. Because of my health, and therefore my medication, I do have memory problems, so I e.mailed the reviewer asking for the name of the story, or the author. I then put an AN. On both places I posted. So far everyone is saying my story, is a Veela story with a twist. So I may continue to post.
Bamboo don’t you think it is time for writers of fanfic to help each other; I went to my readers, because I did not know where else to go. If we had a site, where someone like yourself or other really well-known writers could be there for problems just like I have found myself in, to help and also confirm such claims, like the reviewer issued at me?
Sorry, back to the review. You took me from feeling really sad and worried, to listening in my mind to the lovely Krum whispering in his broken English to Hermione.
Three amazing chapters. I’m sighing, because I am receiving very good reviews for my writing. Then I read a story from yourself, and others.
Even though I am despondent, I will not give up, after all it makes you and others keep them and yourself on your toes.
Best wishes, you are still amazing,
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
aka Penny.
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
First of all, Penny, happy birthday! I hope you managed to have a very nice one at that.I'm sorry to read about the difficulties with your story, and I think you did the right thing by adding an author's note. Without additional details, I don't feel as if I can really make any sort of comment on the situation, but I do wish you well with the story. As for my story making you feel better -- well, I'm not sure there's a better compliment to be had. Thank you so much. I'm really glad you liked my jaunt into a Viktor/Hermione relationship. Thanks so much.
Ah, the final chapter! It's been an interesting ride. I'm sorry to see this end, but all good things must. The final chapter review is always where I become the most incoherent, so I'll just say thanks for sharing this story!
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
You're rather adorable when you're incoherent -- although I have no trouble understanding you at all, and thank you so much for your wonderful comments. I can't express how much I appreciate them (especially coming from you.)
Response from zambonigirl (Reviewer)
Especially coming from me? LOL. What did I do this time? No, don't answer that. I really am starting to get better at reviewing the fic that I read. Counting yours, that's two this year. You may commence with the spankings now, though I'll warn you ahead of time that I'll probably enjoy it.
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
Of course, especially from you -- I've been a fan of yours since you first started your MLC fic ... which remains one of my all-time favorites. However, if you're also offering spankings ... Hmmmm....
Response from zambonigirl (Reviewer)
*blushes scarlet*Really? Dude. Thanks! Now bend over...
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
::giggles ... sits on a very soft pillow::Yep!
A nice, satisfying read. I also like that it was fairly concise. (I am steering away from long epics at this point.) The Bulgarian was a little distracting as I couldn't always get the meaning from the context, but it did add a touch of realism and showed the intimacy between them. It reminds me of when my husband and I were dating--I learned some words and phrases in his native language.
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
Thank you. Since I'm finishing up my epic-from-hell, I haven't wanted to invest the time in writing too long of a story. So thank you for that. You found the Bulgarian distracting? Hmmm. I'd thought I'd managed to make it clear -- perhaps I'll read this last chapter again and streamline it a little. I appreciate the comment.I, too, learned some words in my husband's family's language when we were dating -- some of which we still use today. Thanks, again.
I love taking a journey out of my "preferred" pairings and having it end up such a lovely trip as this was. It was all so sweet, but yet all of their fears and regrets were treated with the respect that was due.Just a truly wonderful piece of writing that has left me with a warm and fuzzy feeling that I'm going to enjoy all day long.Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful work with us all.
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
What a great compliment, bentwaters. This story is out of my 'preferred' pariings as well, but Rozarka (who writes marvelous Viktor/Hermione stories on LJ) has been a real influence, so I had to see if I could write these two. I'm just thrilled you enjoyed it so much. Thanks.
delightful ending to a magnificent story. I love the cursing at the Brazilian player. Very creative. Do you speak Bulgarian? You seem pretty fluent in the culture, not many people know that they nod their heads when they mean no. Talk about confusing for the rest of the world. And you so totally got the latin machismo down. Look forward to more of your writing.
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
Aside from being delighted that you've enjoyed the story, you've just given me the most marvelous compliment. I don't speak Bulgarian at all, but I spent a day or so on the internet looking up phrases and cultural idiosyncracies. I must confess research is half the fun of writing, and I'm really touched that you noticed the details. Thank you.
Bambu, you write the BEST dialogue - it reads the way people speak, not the way people write, if you know what I mean? I usually only read HG/SS but I saw your name on this one and couldn't resist!
I love how you've written these two - they both need to be listened to, to be accepted. In fanon, I love HG/SS, but in canon - even though I accept JKR will run with HG/RW - I love HG/VK. It smacks of truth. Anyway, this is my long-winded way of saying thanks for sharing another terrific story!
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
I love your long-windedness ... you made me blush. I'm utterly thrilled you liked my dialogue. Other than grammar it is the thing I've worked on the most in writing. My very first chapter -- a few years ago -- had only three lines of dialogue in it. I was terrified!I quite agree about canon couples. Viktor wants Hermione for herself, and he respects her. I think that's what endears him to me. Thank you very much for reading the story.
Response from maria (Reviewer)
I've just read the third chapter - loved it! I also just read the reviews to this story and I wholeheartedly agree with zambonigirl - your ability to weave backstory seamlessly with the current story is equal to none. With your stories, I never skip ahead. You have an economy of words that manage to convey more than 50 other stories combined. I love your writing!
ooohhhh mmmm nicely done
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
::wriggles happily in her chair:: Thank you very much.
He cupped her face between his hands and stared deeply into her eyes. “There is no one better than you, Hermione Granger. No one.”I wimbled more than just a little at that line. And it's so true, too! Thank goodness that Ron has rarely been able to see it. She deserves so much better. I await on pins and needles until you update with the next chapter.
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
I figured he would be spurred by her unusual bout of insecurity. I'm so pleased you liked that line. You've made me a very happy woman!I'll post the final chapter tomorrow morning. I do hope you like it, and thank you for your wonderful comments.

Another amazing story. I don't know where your muse has been but keep sending her there. I love this pairing and it is so rarely done.
Cheers
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
Thank you. My muse has been gestating adn occasionally she births something worthwhile. I'm delighted you've enjoyed it so far. There's one more chapter to come.

beautiful. Victor is such a romantic soul. I'm glad you decided to pair Hermione with him. They do seem like a good fit personality wise don't they? I do so love Hermione's teasing Victor about being a slag. It keeps the story from being too sentimental. Good use of balance.
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
I really didn't want it to get too soppy ... even if the situation warranted a bit of sentimentalism. This is a man who threw her regard away and is only now having a chance to redeem himself. Still ... too much is too much. Thanks for enjoying it so far and letting me know that you are. I do appreciate it.
This makes me so happy. I adore HRVK. There isn't much written about them anymore. I'm putting this on my favorite story list. I can't wait for updates.
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
I'm so very glad you're enjoying the story! Yay! I'm adding the next chapter ... in a few minutes actually. I do hope you continue to enjoy it, and thanks so much for the comment.
Okay, I'm just going to say outright that I'm a sucker for Hermione/Viktor stories. I love them. They are geeklove personified. And dang if you didn't just go and start a really great story with them in it! Thank you so much for that. I am very much looking forward to the next chapter.
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
They're my third favorite ship ... aside from my super sekrit Lucius/Hermione fetish. The remarkable Rozarka, who is the best V/Hr writer in the fandom, encouraged me to write the pairing. It ended up as a longish, three-chaptered one-shot. I'm tickled you're enjoying it, and so pleased you let me know. Thank you.
Response from zambonigirl (Reviewer)
I've read Rozarka. She's at LJ, I believe? She writes wonderful fics, and I enjoy her a lot. I enjoyed this chapter just as much as I have enjoyed her fics, so don't sell yourself short!I have to say, too, that I liked the way you explained what happened after the war. You didn't just jump into an explanation that sort of takes away from the story, but you incorporated it. That's a hard thing to do, very hard, so kudos to you there!
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
She is indeed at LJ, and is a terrific author, so I'm doubly honored you thought I did as credible a job. I think I'm blushing! ::grins::Your comment about my blending the war backstory with the current story just about made my year! I've been working on showing-not-telling, and finding the right balance backstory to tell. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Yeah - A Victor/Hermione story! I love these, and I'm looking forward to this one!
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
Yay, a Viktor/Hermione fan! Have you read Rozarka's work? She writes the best Viktor/Hermione I've yet read (she's on live journal.)I'm so happy you're enjoying the story. It's a longish one-shot (three chapters in total,) and they're finished. I'm giving them a final proof-read, and I'll be posting them in the next day or so. Thank you very much for the feedback -- I appreciate it very much.
Very good story. Can't wait to see how Hermione and Victor clear the air between them.
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
Thank you so much. It's a fairly short piece, so I intend to have the next chapter up some time tomorrow. I'm delighted you're enjoying it.
Ah, good start. Looking forward to seeing what's next. :)
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
I didn't even realize it had loaded. I had a little difficulty with the site this morning. Now I'm going to check that it's all here. So, thank you very much for reading it. It's a short, three-parter, and the last one is rather steamy (I hope.)
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Reviewer)
Sounds good to me. I love Hermione with Snape the most, but I've become fond of Hermione and Viktor. Heh, I also like Hermione and Draco. :) I think that Viktor's jealousy and anger were portrayed well, and I feel it's quite likely. :)
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
I have a tendency to think of Viktor as a Snape-lite, he's who Hermione practices on until the real thing comes along. ::laughs:: I'm so hooked on Snape. It doesn't matter if I still write Draco/Hermione, Snape's the one who snagged my heart.
A lovely, lovely story, thank you.
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
My apologies for such a very belated reply to your review, but thank you for taking the time to read the story and leave a note.
That's the first time I've ever voluntarily read a Hermione/Viktor story, and I only did that because you wrote it. You've maintained you usual standards of fine writing and believable characterization and situations.
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
You've just paid me one of the best compliments I've ever received. Thank you very much ... for giving the story a chance and for doing it because it was me. I'm a little teary-eyed.
What a good ending to a sweet tale. I'm happy they worked things out. I hated to hear that Snape was the one who'd hurt her leg, but I expect he can't always be the "good" guy, eh? I'm curious about the image mentioned in the text. I don't know if you meant to upload it or direct us someplace. I'll bet it's a lovely scene though.
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
ACK! I didn't get rid of the image cue? I'll go do that right away. Sorry about that. I have it linked on my LJ, but am so much of an end user I would have no idea how to do it here. Sorry. You know I'm such a Snape lover that the only way I couldn't have him be vying for Hermione's affections is to have him be dead or in prison. I jsut couldn't kill him off, so he's in prison. Sigh. I'm rather hopeless about it.I'm glad you thought the ending was workable. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Response from Southern_Witch_69 (Reviewer)
Not a problem. I can always look it up or cruise on over for a look. :)
I like this chapter and that they're finally talking and catching up again. Off to the next.
Response from Bambu (Author of The Three Rs)
Isn't it nice to see them as adults ... and holding adult conversations?I really think you'll enjoy the next chapter -- lord, I hope you do!Thanks for the wonderful comment.
