Oh, the original vision wasn't his subconscious at all. The dreams he had, afterwards, come from it, though. Because apparently his subconscious has already understood the vision, even if Severus is still wondering. ^-^

Well, I hinted at it in the last paragraph: he didn't see a girl of eleven, but a young woman of about 20 when she first walked up to the Sorting Hat. And only when she was sorted did he see the girl.
