Reviews for Time's Arrow
Well, should have figured it wouldn't be that easy. Who'd they have to poke with a stick, otherwise? Bastards. Anywho, I'm not surprised that Severus is wary of anyone that goes by the name of Peverell. Hermione should take a lesson from him. Hmm.
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Absolutely. But he is really intrigued now and quite keen to see what she is working on. His lassitude is diminishing and even though he has not the foggiest clue what is happening between them, at least his interest has been piqued... Thank you for your review! Pxx
Whoa! Going back to read Redemption Charm now...
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Great! (One of the reasons for the slow burn start of Time's Arrow was its origins as a request from reviewers of TRC!!). Next chapter will be up in a week or so.... Pxx
Cool. I wonder what happened to Severus. I like this insight into his life in Cokeworth and the owls are wonderful. Ugh. Hermione feels trapped. I think we've all been there at some point. I wonder how she'll escape.
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
It's a bit of a slow burner, this one... for a good reason (I hope you'll agree). H is trapped, but so is S too - no matter how bullish he is trying to be. I wondered what life would be like for him if he didn't just waltz into a mail order potions business, or slot back into teaching at Hogwarts...? Pxx
Yaaaaayyy! Another Epic fic from Proulxes dealing with ancient history and Hypatia!!! and my favorite couple! I'm going to go do a happy dance now.

Hi there,
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
! Great to hear from you again. Yup... back to the grindstone... or lathe... or furnace... *Waggles eyebrows* Pxx
Boy Howdy! I first read this chapter, and then reread The Redemption Charm, and then read this chapter again. It was a total pleasure to be able to appreciate this same story from each one's perspective. Blew me away... so much so that I've had to take a bit of time to allow my feelings to settle. This is storytelling at its best. When the author can make the reader truly feel the emotions of the characters, it is such a treat!*****...an invitation to meet a Master Peverell from the Department of Mysteries. She shivered slightly at the name, reminding herself that the Hallows were all but out of reach. After I'd thought about it for a while I realized that in her thoughts about her letter from the Department of Mysteries, Hermione did not think of the Hallows as being destroyed... no, they were merely "all but out of reach." The siren in my clue detector went off, and I thought, "Ohhhh yessss. Make a note of this, Beffey." It may not be an important part of the story, but it is very much the kind of thing I love about your writing. You drop such neat little bread crumbs along the path that I have the most delicious fun trying to imagine how they might fit in the tale to come.I am soooo looking forward to the next update. Beth
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Aha... curse your overactive imagination and sneaky brain! SHHHHHH! Stop giving other people ideas!!!! Lol. I rarely get into the specifics of canon (I admit it - that's why I spend most / all of the writing in the post-War universe! - thank the Gods for beaweasley2!!) - but I believe that the film differed from the book in a quite significant way over the Hallows... and that might be important later on.... Next chapter will be up soon. Pxx
Wow. I'm going to, of course, rush back and re-read Redemption to remind myself what Severus was experiencing. (I'm assuming they are the same universe.) That was an excellent story, and I'm so glad you've expanded it--but this already seems even more intense. You've used a clever and believable way of getting Hermione to that improbable place--her subconscious returning to a place where Ron had abandoned her. And I loved the crystal lillies. So this is very satisfying, but it is even more satisfying to know that it's going to continue. Not that I've forgotten the prologue... as I'm sure you've been hoping. Really impossible, at this point, to see how they hook together, unless of course the Department of Mysteries has something to do with it?
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
! Great to hear from you again! I am so pleased that you enjoyed Redemption Charm Redux! The prologue IS important of course (*winks*) and we will get to that in a while.... The next chapter is coming soon - and yes... the Department of Mysteries is important...! Pxx
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Hello,
Good chapter. Waiting with baited breath (Godiva dark chocolate, anyone?) for the next chapter. ^_^
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Ha! Thank you,
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
!! Lovely to hear from you again! The next chapter is written, beta'ed and ready for a final polish before posting in a couple of weeks' time. We'll see then how both of them have coped in the weeks following New Year's Eve.... Pxx
Beautiful, beautiful work--you already know how much I love The Redemption Charm, and there is something quite indescribably incredible with us being able to experience Hermione's point of view in the same scenario, along with bringing them together in such a profound way--adore this, and you, and look forward to savouring each and every delectable word, emotion and comma;-DBrilliant work!
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Thank you for your lovely words, nag! I am so delighted that you enjoyed 'your' story from the other point of view. :) The next chapter will be posting fairly soon...! Pxx
Though I'm nearly burnt out on SS/HG stories, I am so glad I gave Time's Arrow a try. The first two chapters laid out a compelling start from bot characters' points of view. This REALLY tied everything together well. Deep, irresistable and well written. I am looking forward to more of this story and where you plan to take it. Is it a WIP, or have you written ahead any?Bravo!
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Hi there - I am so pleased that you gave Time's Arrow a go! It is a WIP - but I PROMISE to finish it. I have written ahead and the next chapter will be posted in about two weeks' time. I ALWAYS plan things out before I start to post and will never abandon a WIP. Thank you for your kind words. This one is a bit of a slow start... but the action begins to pick up soon! Best wishes, Pxx
Oh wonderful! I loved the original one shot and I'm so happy to see hermione's point of view in this chapter. I'm really enjoying this story and I can't wait to see what happens next. Please update soon!
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Hello,
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
! Thank you for taking the time to review this chapter! I'm really pleased that you enjoyed it. The next chapter will be posted soon and we'll see then what happens in the aftermath of the Charm.... Pxx
The Trace, ha! Yeah, that would definitely stick in his craw and I don't blame him. Although, as perverse as I am, I'd have probably used magic for the very least little thing, hoping that some entry-level flunkie was stuck having to process reports on each instance... So - we're off to meet the Wizard?
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Aaaah - not quite yet (*waggles eyebrows*)... in the next chapter we will see what has happened to our heroes after the effects of the Charm has worn off... somewhat... Snape is torn between the humiliation of having to account for every spell and therefore his movements to the Ministry... and the opportunities irritating them may provide! Pxx
Hermione's situation is so sad--missing her parents and her home, and serving as a security blanket for a seriously screwed-up and needy Ron, and feeling she has no choices. Severus, who has in most ways had an extremely hard time of it, seems to be suffering much less, given his game with the owls and his pleasure in things like his old coat and making his father's old car work. That line about going to visit Lily's grave without magic was a bit ominous, though. Has he lost his?
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Ahhh -- more on his situation next time,
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
! He has had much longer to get used to being alone and unhappy is the best way I can defend his behaviour in this chapter. BOth of the characters are rudderless and unsure what to do now -- Hermione trapped in her education and personal relationships... Severus trapped by his comparative poverty and the fact that he has no direction now, apart from getting out of Cokeworth for a while. More soon! Thank you so much for taking to time to review! Pxx
One of the many things I love about this chapter is the parallel mirroring of Severus' and then Hermione's lives going on and the detailed rich description of narrative; also there is such a bittersweet realism of the fading Ron and Hermione's relationship. Both her and Severus being on the brink of something different needed in their lives is so *tangible* Lovely work!
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Thank you so much, nag! This story starts quite slowly... with both of them unsatisfied and unhappy and lacking in direction. Something is about to happen to change this for both of them.... Thank you so much for taking the time to review. Pxx
"The sand is key," she said softly, almost to herself. "Earth in metal, sand in glass." A Time Turner, with magical sand?Hypatia had told Orestes that magic did not exist, but it did not escape my attention that she also "didn't mention the reaction that her body had to the black sands. For how could she explain the desperate calling that she felt when she had first encountered the strange material - a dark, glass like residue from a huge, ancient crater to the west of the city."Guess what I've been doing this afternoon? Yes, Googling like crazy. I've read about:•Hypatia, Orestes, Cyril, Ammonius, Socrates Scholasticus, and John of Nikiu, and of course Aristotle.•the Gilf Kebir region and Kebira crater. •Libyan desert glass and tektites. You have an unearthly ability to set my mind to working out things I don't understand. Well done!!!And now we have Hermione popping into existence just behind Orestes. And she apologized to Hypatia and began the incantation to cast the Avada Kadavra.I can't wait to see where you go with this one!!!!!Beth
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Woo--hoooo! Another wonderful review - thanks! As ever, you are on the hunt for clues... and there are many of these coming in this story. It's going to be a long one - another action/adventure, angsty, mystery based historical tale. Hope you enjoy it! Next chapter should be up on Friday. Pxx
Great beginning! Can't wait to read more of Hypatia and Orestes. Thank you!
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
More's coming!! But we're back in the UK for a few chapters before getting back to Orestes and Hypatia again....! Thank you for taking the time to review! Pxx
A very intriguing start! I'm looking forward to reading more. Thank you!
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Thank you, Meg! More to come very soon, as we return to the present day and an unhappy Mr Snape.... Pxx
History, Hypatia, Time-Turner *doing happy dance*
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Hellooo! Yup. You've just about summed it up! Next chapter will be up soon.... Thanks for taking the time to write to me! Pxx
I can barely type I'm so breathless with excitement about this tale, this brilliant masterpience--just enjoying every word! 'Zounds, it is brilliant, Time's Arrow indeed! And can't wait for all of this luscious landscape of characters to unfold! Okay, I'm regulating my breathing ('the game is on!')... Love the enthralling cliffie from the very beginning, the richness of historical detail and keen characterisation... As you well know, I ache in admiration of Hypatia--thank you for another unique gem!
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Crikey nag! Does this win the prize for "quickest review after a story has posted"??!!! Thank you, sweetie! The game is indeed afoot, with more mystery coming in the next chapter as we find out what happened to Severus at the end of the War.... Pxx
Hello, hello and WELCOME BACK P! Oh and what a return it is! Who could ask for more? Love, love, love the dual viewpoints-and the discovery of Master Peverell under a Chameleon Charm no less!So very glad you're back as you have been sorely missed!
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Hello! I'm so sorry that I missed your review!! My alert system isn't working properly O.o.... Thank you for your support - and taking the time to write to me. Glad you liked the Charm (*winks*) and the viewpoints - I'm working on the next chapter! Pxx
When I finished reading this chapter the first time I had to return to the Prologue.
"Life is an unfoldment, and the further we travel, the more truth we can comprehend. To understand the things that are at our door is the best preparation for understanding those that lie beyond." Hypatia of Alexandria b. AD350-370
Hummm...
• I also noted that Hypatia referred to the instrument that Borusius has made for her as "the new astrolabe." •And Orestes remarked that it was "easily twice the thickness of Theon's astrolabe..." •With the help of my friend old Google, I realized that Theon was Hypatia's father and that he was referred to as "the man from the Mouseion" and may have been the last curator of the Alexandrian Library.•Severus and Hermione were magically connected. They had formed a bond in the cemetery on New Year's Eve when she had spoken the incantation for the Redemption Charm for him. •According to Other-Snape, Severus had begun to "feel terrible because she's gone," so that would explain the stomach aches and his growing sense of paranoia.•The description of the Time-Turner that Other-Snape gave to Severus sounds exactly like "the new astrolabe" Hypatia had been holding.
Mercy me! I've racked my brain trying to figure out just who this Other-Snape really is, and after considering (and then discarding) Orestes and Harry Potter, I finally settled on Professor Peverell because he would know where Hermione had gone. But I'm tripped up over how Peverell would have come to possess "the new astrolabe" in the present time.
Congratulations on a truly splendid chapter!!! Five stars don't do it justice.
Beth
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
I love your reviews Beth - they ALWAYS give me something to think about, and they always get into the detail of everything. Obviously you cannot possibly expect me to answer any of the implied questions from your research... other than to offer a mighty *wink* and a Snapish sniff of approval. More coming soon - I'm finishing it off now! Pxx
Brillaint! Just simply, fantastically brilliant! Am gaga about the Timeshift, and Paradox... Love the banter and action between Severus and Ronald---ooooh, can't wait for more, more, more! And where the hell has that bloody woman gone off to now? Can't wait to find out!
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Ooh - thank you, nag! I LOVE the littel devil emoticon as well. Perfect! More is coming very soon I promise!! Pxxx
Oooh, I love the insight into Severus' thoughts and feelings as he entered the atrium of the Ministry of Magic... Brave, brave, broken (but mendable) man... The whirlwind action and banter from hurrying away from the ministry to the delightful dining scene just gets me all *excited* Can't wait for their next rendez-vous *wink* Great chapter!
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Thank you, sweetie! He is brave, but also brittle and bitter! I'm really glad you enjoyed the banter in the coffee shop - you've got to go there if you ever get to London! It's a FAB and crazy place. Next chapter's up and the one after that is nearly finished! Pxx
Veeeerrrry Interestink! A tanned Snape? Isn't that considered an oxymoron? And his stomach pain could be poisoning or an ulcer. I would imagine that dealing with the idiots of the Ministry would give anyone an ulcer. ^_^
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Zzzzank you! Yes. Tanned. And Arabian. Oooohhhh. The pain is important - and it's not an ulcer....! Pxx
Seesm as though Snape's got a "people saving thing" that's even more over developed than Harry's. Those aurors are certainly going to be pissed when the other Snape up and disappears. It's a bit hard to believe that Ron would actually be useful in this instance, but I suppose the war has taught him a bit of something anyway. "Down once more to the dungeon of my black despair!" Oh, um... I meant the DoM.
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Yup - for a chap who sustained (even with the help of the Redemption Charm) many years of doing a job he hated while consumed with bitter self loathing and keeping his thoughts hidden from an insane megalomaniac... mmmmm. Yes. He has a 'saving people' thing. Or perhaps it's just a 'saving Hermione' thing...? Ron will be useful - I promise. I quite like Ron. He's in a bad place at the moment, trying to cling on to something that clearly will not work (thank you JKR for making that point recently - sort of -). He will come into his own. Dept of Mysteries is coming up...! Pxx
Good lord. Things are getting complicated indeed. I thought perhaps the stomach pain was due to the two Severus's being around at the same time, but that doesn't seem likely. Is it the missing memories from the Shrieking Shack? Or is someone actually poisoning him (and if so, what are the memories)? Nice to see that Severus will be tanned in the future, but this is really getting confusing and complicated--a hallmark of your work, I suppose. **prepares to rush back and re-read the previous chapter and the prologue** Thanks for the update!
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Ahhh... the stomach pain... there is an explanation (and it's crucial to the plot)... and he won't be happy when he finds out what it is.... I am trying not to have it become too confusing, but it's how my brain works I'm afraid. o.0 I'm working on the enxt chapter now so it'll be a couple a weeks or so before the next posting day... THANK YOU so much for writing to me! Pxx
Response from amr (Reviewer)
If he's seriously unhappy about the reason, I bet it is something about their linkage during the Redemption Charm. Which would be reasonable, since that was at the core of your story. You are so very clever. I look forward to Severus's visit to Alexandria. I see your two stories are linked by that Pompeii fresco that you used in your earlier story--which gets identified with Hypatia sometimes on the web, although its even less likely to have been her than it is to be Sappho.... It probably is Hermione, actually.
Response from Proulxes (Author of Time's Arrow)
Clever, clever, clever!!! I read your comment with a huge, happy grin on my face. Shhhhh! *waggles eyebrows*. More to come later! Pxx
