This is not my type of story, but it is a powerful story, and I will have to rate it as such. A small comment is that it would be more effective without the last three (short) paragraphs, but others may think differently.

Hmm, I think I see what you mean. You mean it leaves him walking away and closes the story on a negative note? Whereas without them, it's more open-ended and hopeful? You know, I might consider deleting them. Thanks very much for your input!And thanks for reading it all, and rating it, despite it not being your type of story. :-)
