I offered a short story for a bingo prize during the last SS/HG Exchange. Kathryn chose it, and here is her prompt:
"Here's a plot bunny for Lucius lovers.
I've seen more than one "Daddy Long-Legs"-style story with Hermione being the orphan and Snape being the benefactor. I think there was a challenge, a long time ago.
Thing is... Lucius Malfoy is the one in a better position to be a benefactor (since we know he's rich) and with very good reasons to want to remain anonymous.
So what would happen if Lucius was the "Daddy Long-Legs" instead of Snape? Not a romantic interest, but simply someone whom Hermione has to depend on."

I love how Lucius is doing good things- fixing people's homes better than expected, paying off Hermione's debt- all with ulterior motives. I was hoping his revenge on Hermione would backfire, but I do like a true to character Lucius.

Well, in the long run I think Hermione will find out that Harry didn't pay it off. He could always offer to take the truth serium. Or she could just forgive him, figuring he had her best interests at heart. After all, she's forgiven Ron enough time! ;)

Oh, Lucius. Wonderfully done. I love that he went above and beyond just so he had something to lord over the Ministry. The conversation about that was just wonderful. And a marvelous way of enacting revenge. I bet times like this he misses having someone he could confide in.

As far as the going above and beyond, he started doing that because he was bored out of his mind! LOL It turned into an advantage when his probation officer brought it up. ;) Yes, I imagine he does. I've played with the idea of having him write a letter to Severus (who of course survivied) and extending the story.

Lucius's knowledge of Hermione's character is a little scary from a distance. Let's hope that Hermione acts in a way he doesn't seem to be able to understand and forgives Harry. That'll show him.

Well done! This Lucius is brilliantly – and scarily – evil. No matter what happens in the future, this won't end well for Hermione. After Lucius reveals the truth (probably whilst claiming to have done it because he'd turned over a new leaf), she'll have to suffer the guilt of having truly hurt a friend. Revenge squared.Since he'll have got for the price of what will look to most people like a good deed, few will believe his intent was bad.Revenge cubed.And I don't doubt he'll enjoy every minute of distess.

Lucius was very clever in getting his revenge on Mindenhall, but may have bitten off more than he can chew with Hermione. She may forgive him paying her debt in time, but driving a wedge between her and Harry, no. That has hurt Harry in order to hurt her, and as the old saying goes" hell hath no fury like a women scorned ".

"I was overcome with all the terrible things I did to Muggle-borns while under the influence of the Dark Lord, etc" and totally shocked that it caused any type of discord between Hermione and Harry. Nicely done of him, although if Hermione and Harry were truly friends still, it might occur to her to finally take Harry at his word and make up like they have in the past. Well, he could still lord it over her, because she wouldn't have any way of getting Lucius to take the payment back - she'd be stuck knowing that he was her benefactor and that would bother her to no end,lol!
