For the first time in Severus Snape's life, he actually has the girl. Now, all he has to do is figure out if he truly wants to keep her.

I've been reading HP fanfic since 2005. Severus is my favorite character, although I enjoy stories about others that don't feature him.
I've served as alpha and cheerleader for writers since 2010, and 2012 marks my first outing as a writer.

A perfect relationship for them at this stage in their lives. :)

I think that you are the first to say that. It's much appreciated. I really had an interesting time dealing with this prompt and finding an interpretation that would appeal to Tash while holding interest for readers in general.

He is progressing nicely up the scale. And now they will work directly with ech other. Very promising. :)

Yes! Can't pass up a challenge like that, lol! Also, putting them together like that allowed me to focus on just the two of them. :)

Loving the relationship between Ron and Hermione, and the way they are plotting to counter the press and Molly! :)

Thanks. I don't like bashing characters if I can get around it and I'd like to think that after all these two have been through, they'd be stronger for it.

Thank you for following this and especially for the stars, even when I hand out an ending that doesn't completely satisfy. I promise that if/when I write these two again, they will be happy together or else!
Even if it's a sequel of this tale, I will insist that they figure things out.

Well my stomach just dropped. I really enjoyed the story,it was very well written ,funny and honest. I am a happily ever kind of gal for these two....I read and appreciate all types of SS/HG stories but the happy endings with them together are the best for me. I really thought they would end up having a(n) ah-ha! moment. So I am sad but happy they could maintain their friendship. Sorry I did not review before, the story was worth the wait!!Guess I better go read a fluffy them together in the end story,to make me feel better. Please keep writing and I will keep reading!

This particular Severus was very difficult to write. He was going along so very well until he became smugly satisfied with having finally mastered the friendship bit and gaining the respect he'd craved in earlier years. He did have an ah-ha moment and it wasn't in my favor as a writer.
What does one do when the character takes over the narrative, especially as a new writer, when you have a looming deadline for a fest? You eventually let them have their way or you have no story. This story sat for three weeks after Severus' soliloquy until I capitulated and let it run its course.
Mundungus42 suggested that due to the extended lifespans of wizarding folk, there is still a possibility that these two will find each other in the end. Poor Erik - I wonder how many creative ways she killed him off mentally?
Thank you so very much for your kind words and for reading this, knowing that it wasn't the fluffy feel good tale we all crave.

Thanks for responding!! If Mundungus42 needs help killing off Eric...just sayin'!!! If you are a new writer I must give you Kudos!! You have a natural gift and I hope you share more of that gift in the near future!!

The descriptions of the magic used is fascinating and wondrous, just like when I first read the books. The added muggle biological science is a bonus. And Snape has finally matured, which is lovely to read. He's no longer emotionally stuck in adolescence - but he's still guarded. He's now self-aware and understands the difference between past actions/emotions/attachements and present feelings/actions. Most post-war HGSS fics have him morph into something faaaaar too balanced, soft and solicitous. You can't take the Northerner out of the man :)Love the details regarding each of their quirks, and how they both are learning about each other. And even though I do love me some PWP smut, I appreciate this 'grown up', real life take on their intimacies.BRAVA! Looking forward to more :)
Response from arynwy (Author of The Anatomy of True Friendship)
So glad you enjoyed the magic. That was one of the things I loved about the series and how can you write a story and not play with the magic? Sacriledge, LOL! I also think that these two woud use every avenue available to them in research.
Snape has to have gained something from all of his experiences, especially after surviving all that he has. He needs to have made some progress.
I'm new to writing and PWP smut is daunting. :) I'm very well-versed in 'grown up', RL intimacies though.

Brilliant. I don't say that lightly. A truly adult Hermione, yet still IC. I like this Snape so far as well, I hope he remains IC too.

Thank you so much. This story is a bit of an experiment for me - projecting the canon characters forward in time and introducing a level of relationship reality that we normally stay away from in SSHG tales. I tried my best at keeping everyone involved IC. This really was a challenging prompt to fulfill. I'm glad you are enjoying things at this point.

Um, wow. You blew me away there. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. The binder, the work, the calculations all of it was overwhelming but just right. I loved the way their friendship progressed and how he was able to pull her away from her work. Her reaction could not have been any better. Funny how he is still holding himself back from her, not wanting to go to his place. But at the same time opening up to her and letting her know that he wants to stay with her and is not looking to give her up anytime soon. I can't wait to see what happens when she shows up with him, Ron reaction I am sure will be priceless. Awesome story, Yay for me.

I've always wanted to try tightly focused storytelling and this is the result. I'm very pleased you are enjoying the style. I'm also happy that you've picked up on a key part of Severus's personality. As for Ron, he's managed to have grown up in my tale - I hope you will enjoy this more thoughtful rendition of him. He's still in character, I've just pushed him to reach his potential. Thank you for your enthusiasm.

Their was so much going non in this chapter I dont know where to begin, the thec stuff was so well written that I could understan quit a bit of it. the building of the relationship was outstanding. the sex was a slow burn not just a fast explosion that peters out. Welll done.
Response from arynwy (Author of The Anatomy of True Friendship)
I'm glad the psuedo techno-babble was understandable. One of my friends is a cancer researcher and she graciously beta'd the scientific bit for me. It's a very watered down explanation of what she does.Color me exceptionally relieved that the building of the relationship and the sex part worked. Those two bits were the hardest part of the story, so I'm very happy that they work for you. Especially the slow burn. I'm a big fan of the slow burn. :)

Love that Severus is doing the chaseing until Hermione lets him catch her. A very different but good slant on their relationship.
Response from arynwy (Author of The Anatomy of True Friendship)
This tale is written from Severus's POV on purpose. As much as I love Hermione, I wanted to tell a story from a different angle. Glad you like the slant. Thank you for the review and the rating.

Ahhh, amazingly awesome chapter. I loved the way they talked to each. Hermione has certainly come into her own and I love her no nonsence approach. Severus is being a wonderful flirt. I am totally hooked on this story.
Response from arynwy (Author of The Anatomy of True Friendship)
Yay! I really had a lot of fun creating dialogue for this, so I'm pleased that you are enjoying it.It was interesting to look at Hermione's canon history and figure out who she might be under certain circumstances and I really think that a Severus that managed to survive would want to live a little at this point.I'm happy you're hooked. This tale has four parts to it and Part II is in queue. Thank you for your kind words and the rating.

Ah,now I understand things a bit better. Hermione has been hurt quite a bit in the past, and her arrangement with Severus seems to be the same kind she had with Ron. I look forward to reading more. This type of relationship can only work for so long until it either has to end, or progress further.

So very, very true. Not everyone that reads this gets that part right away, so 10 points to your House! Thank you for the insightful comment.

Hope this will develop soon. Thank you for sharing.

Interesting start! If I can make a suggestion, I think the term you were going for is "public record" rather than "public domain."

I was really confused at first, until I read the prompt at the bottom. It seems like from the promise Hermione gave Ron, that there's some sort of trouble between her and Severus. I'm guessing the "friends with benefits" relationship is the only way she can have a relationship with him. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.
Response from arynwy (Author of The Anatomy of True Friendship)
Interesting take, but no - Hermione has issues of her own that need to be worked out. It's nothing to do with Severus. We'll see him in Part I, which is in queue, and hopefully your curiousity will be satisfied.

When something is well written, the flow of it kind of hums. This hums. I love your Hermione. Can't wait to see the rest... *tip toes over to the SSHG Master List*

Having read the prompt I'm a little apperhensive, I don't mind angst as long as there is a happy ending for our couple when the last page is turned. Having said that, it is a good start, and an intersting premise.
