I'm a fifty-year-old working mom and wife. I discovered HP fanfiction late in 2007 and fell in love. My favorite pairing is SS/HG, but I also enjoy stories featuring the triumvirate of Slytherin bad boys: Severus, Lucius and Draco!
Check it out! I have shiny banners!
Reviews for The Ice-Cream Man Cometh
I enjoyed your story very much. It is both witty and charming. I do wonder if you won't continue onto the survellience, because that's why Severus wanted the driving lessons in the first place. Don't get me wrong, I totally enjoyed reading each and every chapter as they came out... I guess I was hoping you'd delve into the case work. Perhaps some dark treachery or something going on in that little wizarding town? Up to you.
Thanks for a great read.
She has traffic cones in her bag ... :)
I love that she got on his case about reciting verbatim from his driving book.
And Snape is a man through and through. If I ever doubted it before (which I most certainly did not), I was convinced by the whole "Don't call the RAC. I can jumpstart this car all by my big, bad, manly self," business.
It's nice that they started opening up. And I think Hermione really does know a witch who would be perfect for him. She just isn't ready to look that closely at the situation.
I can just imagine it: Snape's Headache Remedy – one dose of this, and you'll never worry about your pain again.”
Poor Snape. *giggles*
Oh, he bought her dinner. They would probably disagree, but I think that constitutes a date. The first of many, I hope.
Brian and his big mouth ... I wonder what else we could learn about the ice cream man?
*snort* *giggle* *wipes eyes* *snerk* ^_^
Ah, my dear, I read this again and fell in love with it all over again :) Well-done! Can't believe I missed the hilarious bit about the prefrontal coretex last time!
It was a very funny story, i loved Brian in the mix. Is there a sequal also with Brian?
Well, I expected a little more disaster in the driving department. But, of course he is a quick learner, and, well, they did end in the ditch, so I guess it didn't go entirely flawlessly.
And it was back to business, flirtatious Severus replaced by somber Snape. Isn't that always the case? Why can't the man just loosen up without so much effort? Of course, would he be as appealing to the fan girls if he did?
So, you got a flat tire, eh, McFly?” ... “I think you've mistaken me for someone else,” Snape replied.
Poor Snape, LOL! Since they share an interest in literature, maybe she needs to introduce him to muggle cinema.
No, don't call Vincent! Make them be stuck together in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do except ... well, they'd surely figure something out. Especially after spending some time in the pub. ;)
Now we need a sequel focussing on the mission. "Loo of the Year Award", Indeed! Only in the UK....
So fun! Love it form begining to end.
Given our history ...Hmmm ... is he refering to Hogwarts, or is there a juicier history there?
Snape is really brave to promise Hermione an unspecified favor, even if he did give himself veto power. I look forward to finding out how she uses her prize. Oh, and to some good old fashioned ice cream truck christening. ;)
This might be one of the most unusual starts to a story that I have ever read! Brian ... *laughs hysterically* I believe Snape has met his match.I love the title to this story. And I don't know where you are from, but where I live, Mad-Eye Moody would blend in much better. Our ice cream truck drivers are middle-aged with beer bellies and tattoos and missing teeth ... not the sort that you let your kids approach alone. *cringes*I look forward to seeing how Mr. Confident fares with his self-instructed driving lessons!

! I'm so pleased you found my frothy little fic. Brian might just be a brain, but he can 'stand' up to Snape any day, and he won't back down.I had always associated ice cream trucks with college students, as my sister drove a Good Humor truck during her summer vacations. But nowadays, it is middle-aged men here too, nowhere near as sexy as Snape with his snaggle-tooth sneer. Thanks for taking the time to review!
Awesome story... the title confused me and didn't read it for some time; finally I did and I love it!

Thank you so much,

! I'm so glad you took a chance on my oddly named story. The title is a bit of a takeoff on the early twentieth-century play The Iceman Cometh by Eugene O'Neill, and that's where the similarity ends. Stay tuned for more.
I love how he's being called McFly. Excellent chapter - itching for more!
Response from Clairvoyant (Author of The Ice-Cream Man Cometh)
Well, if you saw a tall, lanky man, with greasy hair and a large nose, driving a DeLorean, wouldn't you call him McFly? And he's going to learn about the name soon enough. Thanks for reviewing,

As annoying as these car troubles are, at least it's giving them a chance to get to know each other. It's clear they have a lot more in common than they previously thought and, especially for Severus, could use someone to talk to. I'm loving all of the humor, and I hope that at some point Severus finally gets to see Back to the Future, though I'm not sure he'll appreciate the nickname very much after that lol. I look forward to the next chapter!

I just had to get them stranded and hope they would open up about personal stuff. It worked! They both need to venture beyond that dusty lab in the bowels of the Ministy. Talking to only disembodied brains can't be good for one's mental health. Stay tuned for the next chapter in which Hermione explains the origins of McFly. Thanks for taking the time to review, ks.
The driving lesson and this second predictment ( a dead battery or such) truly gives me flashbacks of any and all anxious automobile situations - lol! But happy it's given Sev & Hermione a chance to speak to each other and start sharing bits of their pasts -- love it that Severus initiated it, and I'm enjoying his sense of humour with her, and that Hermione knows how to handle him while also opening up and speaking so frankly about relationships - looking forward to more asap!!!

I love tormenting poor, put upon Severus. He's the world's unluckiest man, hands down! I was going for reality, though, and who among us didn't have some difficulty during drivers' training. But it's a means to an end, a way to get them to talk and open up a bit more -- spilling their guts to faceless brains has done nothing for either's social life. Thanks for taking the time to review, nag!
I like their conversation. It smacks of the beginning of a friendship. Is she going to show Snape the "Back to the Future" movies? He might not like being compared to Michael J. Fox. ^_^

Thanks,

. Friendship has to start somewhere, and it's usually a recognition of a common experience. There's just so much talking one can engage in with a disembodied brain, right? Michael J. Fox? LOL He's cute, but he's not the McFly I had in mind.
Cute! I like how they've opened up to each other. This is a very sweet story with a fun premis. I am looking forward to the next chapter. Thank you.

*waves* Hi, littleone! I'm so glad you like this story. Once Snape no longer viewed Hermione as a pesky, annoying student, they became peers with something in common, their 'isolation' during the war. Hopefully, they will realize how much they have in common besides that. Thanks for taking the time to read and review.
So they don't have one of the 16 Right hand drive DeLoreans made? Isn't Severus going to struggle with the side-switch in the van? Haha excuse my DeLorean knowledge..! I loved his regurgitation of the 'biting point' facts!
Response from Clairvoyant (Author of The Ice-Cream Man Cometh)
Those right-hand drive models are rare and expensive (I assume), and because Arthur didn't lose sight of the family budget while experiencing his midlife crisis, he went for the lower-priced US left-hand drive model. Even if Snape did have problems switching from left to right, he'd never admit it. It's pretty ironic he would give a text book answer like that, if you consider how he held Hermione in contempt for the same actions. Thanks for reading and taking the time to review.
Nice chaper .More please.
Response from Clairvoyant (Author of The Ice-Cream Man Cometh)
Thanks! More to come soon, I hope!
While I am very much enjoying this story, I'm also having some flashbacks to my own driving lessons. Thankfully, no ditches were involved lol. I love the idea that Arthur has a DeLorean! Though I can't say exactly why, it just makes sense to me on some level. I look forward to the next chapter!
Response from Clairvoyant (Author of The Ice-Cream Man Cometh)
I'm so glad you like my fluffy fic. Eep! Flashbacks? I hope your drivers' ed memories are good ones. If it's anything embarrassing, you can whisper in my ear. I wanted Arthur to have a flashy midlife-crisis car, and the put upon, troublesome DeLorean was the perfect choice. It's complicated enough to appeal to the Muggle-obsessed wizard.
Poor Snape. I would have had the opposite problem as I can't drive a stick shift for my life, not that I had the easiest time learning on my automatic either lol. Is it bad that I hope Hermione also has the idea of asking Snape to dress as Augusta Longbottom and meet Neville for tea? Of course, I'm sure Hermione will think of something much cleverer lol.
Response from Clairvoyant (Author of The Ice-Cream Man Cometh)
Yeah, I'd be in the same boat with you, and I hope it's an automatic transmission. I spent one day driving a standard transmission car when I had drivers' education. I promised the instructor I would only drive automatics for the rest of my life. I'm not sure what Hermione has in mind for Snape. Could be naughty... could be nice. Thanks for reviewing, ks.
Great start! I am only just beginning this story and still have two more chapters to read, but I'm really enjoying the dialogue and humor so far, especially between Severus and Brian. I'm definitely looking forward to reading about Severus' driving education. I had a similar thought to his when I was learning to drive ("Even teenagers can learn to drive") and though I was also a teenager at the time, I found it very comforting lol.
Response from Clairvoyant (Author of The Ice-Cream Man Cometh)
Thanks so much for your lovely review. Snape's awfully confident, isn't he. That can be a double-edged sword when it comes to practical skills, given his luck. But that kind of attitude is exactly what teenagers need to succeed. That and a magic wand.
I'm awed by the automobile details; just when I thought Severus was Formula One material, the poor dog had to throw him off his groove! The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - brilliant - LOL! Perfect for these two! I was a liitle dismayed by Hermione's enthusiasm to rush back to London asap, but like the development that she's loaded, cash in hand and they'll be waitig for the tyre to be replaced, and that they'll be dropped off at a pub to wile away the time... together! *waggling eyebrows*
Response from Clairvoyant (Author of The Ice-Cream Man Cometh)
I don't drive a standard tranmission car, and I hadn't since drivers' education many decades ago. I had to learn all that information again. You might notice a lot of pop culture nuggets are dropped into my stories; this one has too many to list. And just when you thought the evening was coming to a premature end, they get to spend some quality time together in a pub while the car is repaired. Hopefully, they'll find something to talk about... Thanks for reviewing, nag.
Awww... the brain is so sweet; through all the snipping, it cares for Severus and can truly be an objective sounding board for his dilemmas:-) I love Hermione, feisty and self-assured, almost smug - but not in a Slytherin way - Sev's temporary insecurity about driving is allowing all sorts of possibilities about these two discovering each other's other strength's and weaknesses - yum! Can't wait for the first lesson, the two of them being in very close quarters of a Muggle auto- HA!
Response from Clairvoyant (Author of The Ice-Cream Man Cometh)
Awww, thanks, nag. Brian's probably the best friend Severus has ever had. He puts up with Snape's snark, and he doesn't try to manipulate his friend. Hermione's all kinds of confident, but she is still hiding a bit, avoiding the general public. But she'll stand up to Snape in a heartbeat, yeah! Let the lessons begin!
How not to love your sense of humor? Its all over the place! More romance please!
Response from Clairvoyant (Author of The Ice-Cream Man Cometh)
Ahhh, reviews are love! Thanks for yours, sugaryfine. And romance is in the works, but our intrepid pair must endure more snarky banter and UST before it appears.
