Reviews for The World Before Columbus
Lovely chapter, as always. I thought the parts in italics was a great way to get a little insight in to what is going on without having to rehash the entire final battle. It worked really well for me.I want to say that Snape is so very lucky that Hermione was the one to find him, but it didn't feel lucky at all, really. It felt fateful. Like she was meant to find him. And she feels so uncertain about what to do, and berates herself for going without her wand, but to the reader she seemed more safe than ever, somehow. Because she is taking the first step in determining her future life. And while we can deduce from the first chapter that the future life that we want for her is probably a little belated in getting started, saving Snape was an imperitive beginning. This was so good that it is decided: you need to quit real life and devote every moment to fanfic. Sure, it doesn't pay well, but look how happy I'd you'd be!

iI have developed over the course of these stories such a strong sense of their connection, and the way it does feel colored by fate. And when it occurred to me what happened in the shack, I loved that she finds and saves him because she is intrepid and decent, and that he saves himself because he is resourceful, powerful, and driven by a spark of rage.I like your plan (re devoting myself to fanfic). It's so much fun. :) Thanks for the lovely long review, and for the PIF rec! I beamed all over when I saw that. :D

You are most welcome. I turned in that rec months ago, and I was afraid that maybe you were gone forever. But here you are. It's like, ask and you shall receive. I'll have to remember that next time I want something. :)
Hello and happy 2016! Happily anticipating a SSHG reunion and wondering if Mr. Granger is ok. I love Caramel, just read it again. Will probably do so another time this year in hopes of conjuring your muse to continue the sequel.
Somehow I'd missed that you'd begun the sequel until now, and tonight I stayed up till 2 am and read (and re-read) every chapter.
ONLY 4???
I could read a dozen more--and hope I will have the opportunity! (and don't feel you have to stop at a dozen)
I don't have to tell you again how much I loved Caramel, and therefore obviously how much I love this as well.
I only beg for a happy ending--for as I've often said, real life has enough sad endings of its own.
masterfully done, as usual, dear corianderpie.
Onward to the next!.....
This is such a sad chapter, but I think we need to be reminded that they are playing for keeps.
I know seeing himself and Hermione happily together in the mirror was a torture for Severus, but surely it was a good thing, too. He didn't get to see her in the Forest of Dean, so this way he does get to see a reflection of what the future might hold for them. If....
I wonder what happened to the sword the trio had with them when they were found? And what in the world is going to happen to Lucius, Narcissa, Bella, and Fenrir? Something unpleasant, I'll wager.

This story continues to live up to all the expectations I had for Caramel's sequel. Great work and I cannot wait to read more!!
Nice take on canon. The details are only that: details. :)
When I saw the first chapter of this posted I dived right in. Then I decided to wait and savour the experience when a few more chapters had appeared. What did I do in the meantime? Why, I went back to re-read Caramel of course. Loved it again!
I'm so pleased that you have named SS's guide on his desert island Miranda. (The Tempest reference, no?) And I'm ecstatic that you're back!!
Well this chapter was packed full of depressing moments. We know our campers are miserable, but now add to that Severus' despair and wanting to see her, but realizing he can't handle it.
Then Severus finds out Hermione was tortured and thinks for a moment that she may even be dead. I felt so sick for him, even though I as a reader know she is okay. It just really drew me in.
And then the mirror ... I think that it was actually a good thing for him to see that. Yes, he knows that he desires Hermione, but to see them together and happy might just strengthen his resolve and remind him what he is fighting for.
And Dumbledore ... he doesn't get to ask what is wrong with Severus. As if he can't guess. Or maybe he thinks so poorly of the man that he truly believes that his fling with Hermione was just that and nothing more. I want to kill him all over again. Bash him over the head with his precious mirror.
Fantastic chapter!
Sometimes we need to remember what our dear characters were actually going through at the time when our story was to have taken place. If it were too AU their world would become topsy-turvy, and then it really wouldn't matter who they were, would it? You could put anyone's name on it. This was really our grounding chapter, and for that reason, it was needed. But, ugh! Severus is an island. And every once in a while he sees that ship of dreams. If only it could be anchored there.
So beautiful and aching.
So I pretty much squealed in delight when I read the update email saying you started posting the sequel to Caramel!! It is one of my favorite fics ever and I have been dying for the sequel (usually checking once or twice a month for updates lol). This is a very interesting start and I look forward to the rest!

I am back. *smiles* I'm glad you're glad. Let's do this thing, shall we?
I'm in love with the island and the lizards already. :)
Response from corianderpie (Author of The World Before Columbus)
Sweet! (Though I must confess we won't be there for long: next chappie is back to canon.) *g*
Excellent.......have been waiting for this for a long time. And what a brilliant start. I've read the Pullman trilogy and I must admit it got quite heavy treading towards the end but I persevered. The good news is that I don't have that trouble reading your work. So I all buckled up and ready for the ride. Best wihes, Love Ali xxxxxxx.

Oh, excellent! I agree about Pullman--it got more heavy as everything got so theologically intense. Still a great universe, and there are crossover elements I just couldn't resist...Next chapter in about 5 days, I think.See you around!
Such an intriguing beginning, I can't wait for the next chapter!
Response from corianderpie (Author of The World Before Columbus)
I know--it's quite a departure, isn't it? Things will come back around and link up, but this is a very different sort of story. I hope you enjoy it. :D
Coriander, I absolutely loved Caramel, and I was so suprised at the ending that they chose to live their lives seperately. This beginning is so unusual that it begs to be read some more to find out how it all ties in! I can't wait!
Response from corianderpie (Author of The World Before Columbus)
They were really forced to live apart at the end of Caramel--or, at least, Severus thought so. This will be the story of how they eventually find each other again (though slowly-you know I love a slow build). :D
Pleeeeease finish the story! Love it so much!
I think this was like the third or fourth time I've read Caramel all the way though, clinging on to every word. Just found the sequel today and have flown right through it. Please please pretty please update. I'll bookmark it and wait, hanging by a thread, for the next chapter to be posted! This is going to eat away at me... such an awesome story! I can't wait to see what happens... Pretty please say you've not given up on this story.
WTH was that?
