Reviews for For the Greater Good
The Mulcibers are a branch of the Murgatroyd family, are they? And I assume Snape’s wife’s maiden name was Sangazure.
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
Oh yes! This is the first story I used Ruthven and Despard in - they're such good Death Eater names. Sure you know Sir Ruthven was the first vampire(Byron, I think). Alina is a Hufflepuff so not sure her blood is blue (nor is she pureblood), but yes I thought 'noble' was a good name for her. Glad you pick up all my G&S refs!
Response from Very Small Prophet (Reviewer)
Last summer’s production by the Seattle G&S Society was Ruddigore. The song about evil people becoming ugly due to their evil deeds certainly made me think of the Potterverse, where the Malfoys are the only bad guys who aren’t physically unattractive.
For G&S references in fanfic, check out my stories on ff.net (where my icon shows John Wellington Snape with Harry-in-the-Box). Draco quotes Pinafore in “Princely Names”; Lavender Brown sings a bad G&S pastiche in “Girls’ Night at the Hog’s Head”; and never forgetting “The Star Wars of Penzance,” with illustrations by the author over on deviantArt. I enjoy Harry Potter fanfic, but I am a true fanatic about Gilbert and Sullivan.

: Do whatever you like with Wagner, but mess with Gilbert and Sullivan and you die!

I look forward to reading your stories! And I agree completely with your last statement :)
Oh my. OH MY. Did Alina *really* kill herself? Awwww... and the infighting! Yikes! (Glad you're a regular updater...) The "conscience" thing is creepy!
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
I'm afraid she really did, yes - she panicked and was totally alone. Yesh, the conscience thing is creepy - I think it is and I wrote it! It was the obvious 'translation' of the original line, but it still creeps me out!
Wow! You're writing some awesome stuff here! I'm impressed with how you reworked the canon funeral to fit your events. Nicely done.
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
Thank you very much. It took me quite a while to rework the funeral :)
Oh my. Harry's having some dark moments.
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
He has a cunning plan (to quote Blackadder!)
Oh. My. This was intense! In your version, Severus willingly kills Dumbledore. It's a bit of a twist that I wasn't ready for (don't know WHY I wasn't ready for it -- I should have been! You've been leading up to it for four chapters now!). I guess I was hoping Dumbles would see reason. Ah well... off to read chapter 6.
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
Oh, yes! It was 'for the greater good'. But now he's got to cope with what he's done.
*sighs*
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
I'm so sorry! :( Blame the original playwright (please do; it'll make me feel better!)
Response from Fishy (Reviewer)
Bad playwright! BAD! *shakes finger**sobs over her adorable, purple-clad, bearded wizzy - that silly, silly wizard*
Ooooh... I'm SO intrigued as to what will happen next!!! Will Dumbledore get Trelawney's letter? If so, will he read it? What will Alina do? Will she try to thwart Severus? Will they be able to right the wrong against Mulciber? Excellent update!
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
Thanks - I'm glad you like it. I'll try to update this weekend.
Interesting chapter. I'm interested in Alina and how she'll add to the plot. :) Not to mention what they'll do to Dumbledore.
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
Thanks. Alina will be important later on. And she'll appear in the next chapter. :)
Brava! I had begun to wonder if this were based on Julius Ceasar. Well done!Beth
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
Thank you! And thank you for all your wonderful reviews. :)
Draco and Snape now? This has become a tragedy of major proportions.Beth
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
Oh, yes. The original play wasn't called a tragedy for nothing.
Alina has committed suicide, and Dumbledore's ghost has come taunt Severus for his crimes. This is not a good night for the Potions master. What will the morrow bring? Beth
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
Something even worse, I fear, since Harry's going in all guns blazing!
Harry has whipped up the support he needed to go after Snape and Malfoy, but will it stop with that? Or will he want to take it further to include everyone in Slytherin?
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
I'm afraid he's going after all those involved in Dumbledore's murder. :(
Apparently Dumbledore wasn't colluding with Snape to expose a seditious plan. And Harry must have a crafty plan to committ murder and not be punished for it himself. I wonder what Severus is going to say at Albus' funeral? and what is Alina doing all this time?Beth
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
To quote Blackadder, Harry has 'a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel!'
Soooo... that's what Severus was up to. I wasn't expecting it to happen so soon. Could Severus and Dumbledore have colluded to expose the ones behind this plot? Could Dumbledore really not be dead? Trelawney is going to have a cow!Beth
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
Yes she is! Admittedly it takes very little to make Trelawney have a cow these days! Thanks for all your reviews; they do make me smile :)
Draco is worried sick about his plans being derailed by Dumbledore not coming to the Feast, Alina is worried sick about Severus, Winky is worried sick about having to find Professor Snape, and Trelawney is on the sauce. Where is Severus? And what is he up to?Splendid update!Beth
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
Splendid summing-up of this chapter! Thank you :)
Ahhhhh. Alina may not be as clever as her husband, but she has his trust, and a deterrmined woman who has her husband's trust has her own brand of Power. Will she be helping Severus figure out a way to curtail Albus' plans without bringing the castle down on top of them?Beth
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
The original (very old) play has her saying 'I may be just a woman, but I was good enough for you to marry me' I couldn't/wouldn't use that today!
"What if these letters had been sent by the governors? Or parents? They were right; it was his duty to protect his students. He had to act in the best interests of the school."Were all these letters written by Draco? The plot thickens!Well done.Beth
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
Thanks. :) Yes, they were.
This is an interesting premise. Seems like everyone has a lot of thinking to do– including me! I can't decide if Draco is the villain in this piece or not. I'm sure Dumbledore is not completely innocent, and I don't think I would want to live under his idea of how "the greater good" trumps everything else. Who's "greater good" has the most leverage? I even have to question my own bias toward Snape. Professor Dumbledore has been good to me over the years, but I will admit to you I am deeply uneasy about how the Headmaster may react to the lure of such power. Can Severus be recruited to Draco's plans? I'm off to the next chapter.Beth
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
It's all a bit murky at the moment, I must admit!
I feel as though I've read this before. Have you posted it elsewhere?
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
Yes, it's also on Sycophant Hex, where the prompt came from.
Wow! So sad, but I am glad Snape was cleared in the end. Like Brutus, he was tricked into doing wrong for the right reasons!
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
He was. And it was a perfect excuse to reuse Harry's DH Epilogue tribute to him!
*sighs*Rome always was full of tragedy.... *sighs with relief knowing its a play and Albus is still walking and talking*Quite an ambitious piece you decided to weave, good job!
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
Thanks. There were momemts when I wondered if I'd bitten off more than I could chew!It all reminds me of Blackadder taking Prince George to the theatre - "Brutus must've been pretty miffed when he realised he hadn't killed Caesar at all, just some poxy actor called Kemp!" ;)
Response from Fishy (Reviewer)
LOLOL
Takes me back to school days again! Nice copying- at least Shakespeare is outside of copyright :)
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
Ahhhh, you're the first to recognise it! (Can I ask you not to identify it further? Thanks;)) So glad you approve. I admit I was quite pleased with it; it took me so much study to be able to write this!
I'm not really sure where you are heading with this. Are we supposed to agree with Snape's actions ?,because I can't...But on the other hand, I don't understand Dumbledore either...Intrigued but confused
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
I'm afraid I'm heading where the original playwright takes me. It's more Snape-centric than Dumbledore-centric; it focuses on Snape and how he cope with what he started. I know it's probably a bit confusing, sorry!
Totally trilled to see the update, it is such a interesting plot. I look forward to read more.
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
Thank you very much.
Hm... So Severus is deciding Dumbledore's fate without confirming anything? Interesting. :) Liked this update -- thank you!
Response from peskipiksi (Author of For the Greater Good)
Glad you liked it. Severus is panicking a bit, I think. (reasons to come later on)
