Mostly Harmless! Though I have to admit, I'm even stranger than I appear. ;-) There's a pile of unbeta'd stuff on my LJ (dracfic) if you're interested in Raw, Untamed, fanfic.
Believe it or not, "How Argus Filch Got Wild, Got Laid, and Got His Magic" has been rec'ed by Know It Alls! It's true! They gave me this pretty lil' ribbon and everything! And in March 2007, they saw fit to likewise reccommend (as an antidote to angst) the story that started it all, 'Courtesy of Your Fairy God-Jarvey'--just in time for the first anniversary of that story's posting! *hugs Harm*
(I also have to admit that 'mostly harmless' may not be the most apt description of a member of the Mad Chatters...)
Finally, I just have to say... Storyville. If you were there, you know what I mean.Reviews for Our Cousin the Wizard
Dudley already have a small suspicion that Sam is a wizard, after all he grew up with Harry,so it would be easier for him to spot the signs than a normal muggle. P.S. Petuna will have kittens.

Yep, it won't be an unmitigated shock for Dudley, though Mina is still a little puzzled as to what it all means.Poor Petunia... her biggest problem will be that only one of her grandchildren is a wizard. She doesn't want Dahlia to feel as left out as she did. Hopefully Dahlia will be too busy trying to distance herself from the farm and get to the Big City to care what her brother is doing. Thanks kindly for reviewing!

Beautifully done. I can actually imagine Petunia already knowing about her grandchild's magical gift and just too sad to talk about it, but resigned to the fact. Dahlia could even be magical too, conceivably.
Who knows why Petunia turned out to be a muggle (squib?) while her sister was a witch, and the magical ability skipped Petunia's child as well... only to show up in the next generation? Genetics is such a mysterious science.
Excellent story.

Now... there's a thought. What if someone was magical but never did anything about it? *imagines Dahlia steadfastly clinging to the farm & ignoring Hogwarts letters*Thank you kindly for reviewing!
I suspect Dudley will be less surprised than Harry thinks.

I should keep score of the guesses. Thank you for reviewing!
Wonderful story and yes I do vote for a sequel as well. You have a way to focus on the small things that give a story depth and feel very realistic. I really am curious how Petunia will react when she knows she has a magical grandson. I hope she understand that she has passed on the magical gene, even if she's not magical herself. I always had the idea that marrying Vernon was for her a way to keep up normalcy as much as possible so maybe she is a bit more free to embrace magic now he is gone. I hope you'll let us know what happens next.

Thank you most kindly! I don't have anything particular in mind at the moment... except for the phrase, 'Samford Vernon Dursley, first Muggleborn in Slytherin...'
Very clever! Brace himself, indeed. And maybe meeting little Al might help Petunia cope when she eventually learns her grandson is magical as well. Sadly, even though she was polite, I can forsee a bit of Petunia and Lily playing out between Sam and Dahlia in the future.

One never knows what may happen... thanks kindly for reviewing!
Nice read. I always thought something of the sort should happen to one of Dudley's children--both as payback and to show Petunia that yes, she was special too (because even if she wasn't a witch she passed the trait on thru her line). And I agree with the others, this certainly could have a sequel. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! I don't know about sequels... though I admit, I can't get the thought out of my head: Samford Vernon Dursley, first Muggleborn in Slytherin...
I really think you need to continue this story. It would be great for Harry to introduce Sam to the wizarding world.

Thank you! I shall ask the plot bunnies. *wonders where the Plot Bunny icon is*
What an exceptionally lovely story. Powerful in its simplicity, characterizations ringed so true-- that it even evoked a moment of empathy for Petunia. Brilliantly done!!!

*bows* Thank you most kindly.
I'm sure Big D has to know already. Perhaps that's why he told Sam about his cousins and probably told him not to let Petunia or Vernon see. I really get an image of Petunia looking at Al and seeing her sister at a similar age. A brilliantly crafted moment, there.

Thanks most kindly, luv. I'm not sure that Dudley knows so much as suspects... but then, I like to leave all possibilities open.
Loved it. There is some poetic justice there; Petunia migth have shunned her nephew for being a wizard, but will she be able to shun her grandson, not to mention will her son accept it? Very well written story.
Response from dracontia (Author of Our Cousin the Wizard)
Thank you very much! I must say, it tempts me no end to speculate about Sam & his Hogwarts letter...
Great one. You do post war really well. Wonderful to see something new. Cheers.
Response from dracontia (Author of Our Cousin the Wizard)
Thanks very much--glad you enjoyed it!
Oh my, what will Dudley think of that. Great little story. You know there is a sequel in there don't you? Sam and Al at Hogwarts together. lol
Response from dracontia (Author of Our Cousin the Wizard)
The funny thing is, that was the original thought--and it was literally just a thought that flashed across my mind with no elaboration whatsoever--Al's cousin Vernon, the only Muggleborn ever sorted into Slytherin (I imagined him a Slytherin a la Slughorn, the social networker par excellence.) But that phrase was as far as the idea got, until I realized that the story was not a Dursley at Hogwarts, but in how the family found out. Thank you for reviewing!
I like how Albus almost acted as an intermediary. :)
Response from dracontia (Author of Our Cousin the Wizard)
You're more right than you know--it was wee Al coming up to my door and asking, with those ginormous green eyes, 'Won't you come out to play?' that got me stuck in this next-gen mess in the first place!
Dudley may not be quite as surprised as Harry thinks. But it just may finish off Petunia.
Response from dracontia (Author of Our Cousin the Wizard)
Either way, I'm not sure I'd want to be a fly on the wall when whatever hits the fan does so! Thank you for reviewing
Very nicely done! I like the closure that Harry gets in his relationship with the Dursleys. And I loved the twist at the end!

Thank you kindly!
Great story! I was going to read 'Family Tendencies' when I saw your note about this story, and I'm glad you left that note because it's made reading the sequel so much better!Beth

Thanks kindly for reviewing! I hope you've had a Happy Christmas so far. I try to keep all the stories that are tied together properly labeled so that interested parties may have all the pieces easily available.
What a twist! You must be tired of being innundated with my reviews but you deserve it! Any plot bunnies involving this young guy sam here? Even if just mentioning his name in passing? ;)) I really liked your ending to this ff ;)
Response from dracontia (Author of Our Cousin the Wizard)
Funny you should mention Sam... long after I wrote this story I realized that it just so happens he is the number one fan of a certain Seeker, which might come up at some point.
