Reviews for A Taxing Affair
Well, you eased me into it gently, with such sly use of devastating humor, That I suppose I can accept this, but only because Hermione is happy about it.
Brilliant idea! I love to see what people come up with, ways to use magic JKR never told us about. That would be so wonderful.
And I must admit they do work well together, Also, It is better to work with Muggles than to gain power over them.
WHat a horrible child. (The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.) I know many of your readers have met that type. the ones whose smug little faces announce their self-satisfaction and conviction that they are God's gift to the world.
wonderful chapter! YOur descriptions of the beastly child (and other's reactions to her) were SO funny. I am even warming up to Lucius.
You have done such a good job with legal and buracratic tidbits, and odd twists of the plot. WHat an entertaining story! Thank you.
Oooh, Hermione and friends on the warpath. Hooray!
I looove this story, but I am worried that she may be attracted to Malfoy, and I really don't like Malfoys.
you know a lot about taxes :) and I LOVE the idea of Malfoy
Manor under threat of invasion by tourists...
I find it completely endearing that severus admires her punctuation. AND THANK YOU for quoting Dracula. Made my day.
oh! the shoes! the shoes! and lucius as colonel pickering! I LAUGHED SO HARD.
I approve of lucius doing the cryptic crossword. very much :) I wish I could figure out how to do the darn thing myself. I also love the explanation for the peacocks. and all the little snape details--the misdirection charm, the yorkshire accent--inspired.
Lucius is a sneaky bugger. Just as well, they would have danced around it for ages. :)
Lucius really does have a foot fetish. LOL :)
Avoiding the taxman. What a stirling idea! :)
Snape pretending disbelief, and the portrait's antics are very funny. Poor Lucius is in for it now! :)
Uh oh, what is the PM up to? :)
another splendid chapter! I do love your work. I really do not like Malfoys, any of them, but I will happily tolerate LM for the priviledge of reading your delightful and witty tale.
Your sly sense of humor permeates this charming tale. the 'grace note' of dogs eating a 'decidedly ex-peacock' is hysterical. I love your stories.
You drew me in during the first segment, with the PM's secret fondness for 'our Mr. Snape.' Masterfully written. Then we discovered Hermione in much the same position on the other side of the looking-glass. Only it would seem the PM realizes Snape's virtues more than Arthur does Hermione's. ANd you used very few words to let us know that Hermione doesn't see much of Harry and Ron, and seemingly feels the estrangement is their fault. fabulous job.
Oh, the penguin, good lord, the penguin! Bahahaha! Good job Hermione on somehow managing a kid with 3 parents! A lovely story, very amusing, and well plotted out.
"My name is Goldfinger." I love it!
It was too bad that the other goblin's name wasn't Oddjob--maybe he could be convinced to change it? And poor Harry and Ron are just doing their best to alienate Hermione, aren't they? It's obvious they do care with their over-protectiveness, but Ron at least is allowing himself to be swayed by his wife's opinions and Harry is just good-naturedly clueless. Somewhat like Arthur Weasley, come to think of it!
I'm devastated that I've reached the final chapter up to this point--I'll have to sit and wait just like everyone else now. I'm going to place this on my Favorites list so I (hopefully) won't lose track of it!
Hermione only has seven pairs of shoes--I think Lucius is in love! This was a fun chapter to read, and I'm amazed that Lucius and Severus actually crashed on her sofa and floor. It's like they're all revisiting their teenage years, isn't it? Hopefully the much-needed break will allow them to come up with a workable plan which doesn't involve anybody becoming the next Dark Lord or blowing up 10 Downing Street...
This is shaping up to be very awesome. I'm looking forward to hearing what's happened to Hermione's parents, and how Snape will handle being the attache. ;) And, of course, the plot.
One piece of absurdedly nit-pickyness; the portrait won't come off the wall. Tony Blair mentally rambled about that in Ch1 HBP.
I'd feel sorry for Arthur, but he's had it too easy for too many years--it's about time that being Minister of Magic finally bit him on the butt! And Hermione and Severus making contingency plans for "if and when Arthur caved"...they had no doubts of what the final outcome would be.
Personally, I think Hermione's got the easier job tackling British tax law rather than breaking the news to Lucius Malfoy. I'm sure his reaction to the news will be spectacular!
Oh no...I do hope the PM isn't thinking about demanding back taxes from members of Wizarding society! That could be a little too much to bear...but Arthur is the epitome of "fair play" and will probably acquiesce to the taxing. On the other hand, how many wizards and witches take advantage of the Muggle world's offerings for them to be fairly taxed? Which brings us to Lucius Malfoy...
I absolutely adored the depiction of Lucius and his trials with the now-absent Narcissa; reveling in her distaste for crapping peacocks, bombarded by stray pairs of shoes throughout the house. And later when Severus comes across Lucius' dogs devouring the remains of a peacock, I had to laugh! I have a feeling that a bored Lucius Malfoy is going to be meddling in Severus' and Hermione's lives fairly soon, and I look forward to seeing the results.
Oh, where has this story been all my life? And how could I have so persistently missed it whenever it came up in the queue? I'm only just starting this, but wanted to let you know how much I'm enjoying it already--the characterizations, the little touches, the humor--I liked that the PM's great love was numbers, and the description of how he felt about them just so perfectly described my best friend who is a statistician. I couldn't help but smile as I read it. And Snape's system of labeling "bollocks", "complete bollocks", "utter bollocks", etc. was priceless! Voldemort infiltrating the water authorities gave me Illuminati card game flashbacks (I haven't played that in years)--I'm expecting to hear of the subjugation of the Boy Scouts at any time.
Okay, I'm going to stop now and go on to read the next chapter. Great, wonderful stuff! I'm glad I found this.
