Severus' secret benefactress was no secret; nobody else could combine such artless earnestness with such overachieving spellcraft and mediocre knitting. SS/HG Awards 2009 Nominee for Best Drabble Series.

Professional thinky person. Loves British lit, literary theory, law, philosophy and piles upon piles of good books to read. Cooks and bakes whenever possible. Michigan native, spent some time living in France. Loves black coffee, black tea, black shoes and black clothing. Not in an emo sort of way. *g* I'm a fan of Snape, which you might have noticed. I'll pair him with anybody, and possibly with a few inanimate objects. You can also find my stories and drabbles at SH archives (Ashwinder, Occlumency, Lumos, Chaos, Eros and Sappho), Moonshadow, the Archive at the End of the Universe and my Livejournal.

Accept the gift gracefully Severus, and in the future Hermione may find more interesting ways of keeping you warm.
Always been a thoughtful girl. Maybe he should talk her to a nice walk in the forrest or around the ake

Ah, now there's a stellar idea! She'd appreciate that, I think. Thank you for the review. I'm glad you enjoyed this one.
This is heartwarming and lovely :)

~offers hankie~ Thank you very much! I'm delighted that you enjoyed this one and were moved by it. I'm awfully late in responding, but I hope your Christmas was a good one!
How DID she do that? What a sweet little gesture. With drabble I am frequently left wanting more, but I feel very content right where this ended. Here's to warm hands and warm hearts!

Thank you very much for the lovely review! I'm very pleased that the length of this worked for you. In writing drabbles, I strive to tell a complete story within the constraints of the form, but it's good to hear that you feel it worked. As to how Hermione knows... well, she has ways. And she's been watching those hands for some time, I expect. ;-)
I love the sentence, "After all, nobody else could combine such artless earnestness with such overachieing spellcraft and mediocre knitting."

Thank you! I'm glad you liked that line. I was looking for something to sum up Hermione in a nutshell, and that was what came to mind. :-)
Loved it! I wish there was a longer story here, but it was a perfect little drabble.

Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed this, despite its shortness. I deliberately wanted to keep this one to a vignette with just the suggestion of a possible future (in part because I wrote this one to put inside my Christmas cards), but I have considered the idea of using this as a prologue to a longer story. If I get a chance, it's a definite possibility.
Severus, you can be such a git at times...just say thank you
Response from Bluestocking (Author of Tidings of Comfort)
Ah, not exactly gracious, is he, our Sev? *g* But I think that he's not accustomed to accepting gifts, much less thoughtful ones, so I'm afraid his reactions aren't properly socialized, and he needs to work to realize that gratitude is owed. But he does get there, in the end.
Awww. That's heart-warming!:)

Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Warmed hearts are what I aim for. ;-)
How very sweet! I suspect that Severus' being A Cause was probably one of the last things on Hermione's mind when she made those mittens. If that had been the case, I don't think she would have taken the effort to make them herself, she would have just purchased something ready-made instead. After reading this, I feel all nice and warm and melty inside! Thanks!

Thank you very much for the lovely review! I'm very glad to have inspired warm, melty feelings, and I'm also delighted that you enjoyed this. I think you're right, too, about the unlikelihood of Hermione actually viewing him as a cause. It's one of his big fears, but I doubt she would have put so much effort and consideration into a gift given out of duty or pity.
